Sony is having there grand unveiling of EQN today. Anyone besides me gonna watch it on there live feed? I am a huge fan boy of EQ as it was the first MMo I felt captured my vision of a MMo.. so I cannot wait to see what EQN will look like and I am very hopeful!

It sounds interesting from what they revealed today. I guess I am a bit jaded from years of unfulfilled promises but i do look forward to messing with the landmark package later this year.

I thought a lot of good ideas are involved in the game and it will be interesting to see how they do in actually getting that to the market.  The art style is a bit suspect but might grow on me.  I like the environments so far.  kind of a mixed bag so far.

I'm wondering if EQ Next will be our next game....it looks to dethrone Guild Wars 2, and do some of the things Anet promised in their manefesto, which we are still working on....

Still not sure of the "permanent change" aspect, however. I just wish i could express why it bothers me so....

Kilashandra,

I don't think there is enough information available to determine if EQ Next will be our "next game".

In this Guild post, "The Tavern: The Gaiscioch Family: Ask The Elders: What makes a Gaiscioch Chapter?", there are specific requirements that a game must meet for it to be considered for our next game.

The list is quite long, but includes things like guilds, PVE, PVP, RVR, etc.

While there may be a PVP component to EQ Next, I have not heard anything about RVR. Also, PVE may be radically different in EQ Next (no quest NPC's with exlamation points above their heads).

Even if the EQ Next meets all these requirements, there needs to be a minimum of 750 interested guild members who declare interest in the game.

At best, I think EQ Next may become a Saighdear, where only 250 interested guild members are required.

250 people prelaunch would be a potential branch however long before that comes relationship building. Never had much luck with sony. Ill give it a shot though. I can definitely see a saighdear replacing neverwinter happening here though. Neverwinter saighdear pop is almost nonexistant now.

This game has potential and interests me as "a title to watch closely", the only red flag for me so far was the Sony part.

have to admitt i hated it when games added the huge exclamation mark over their heads , also the SOE factor is a  factor , if it was the org Verant  i wouldn`t worry lol .

Also after looking back over the list it nisses out on a couple points , although if it follows the old way , then the barbs  and Halas were mostly a viking themed race .

Definitely has some cool ideas in it. Kind of sounds like it's borrowing/expanding on some things from Rift and GW2 as far as classes and character development goes. That part of the presentation I really like.

I absolutely love how flexible Rift's soul system is and EQ Next sounds like they're taking that concept and expanding on it hugely. Then the weapons giving abilities seems an expansion of GW2's weapon system.

Of course there's all that construct/deconstruct, emotes, a strong importance on exploring, etc. going on.

Let's see if they can pull off this vision without enountering the typical MMO release of "We want to do A and B and C and D which are all really awesome, but due to investments by entities that don't give a crap about how fun a game is and internal politics we're only releasing with a watered down version of B and nothing else... plus a crap ton of bugs. Enjoy!"

Kalizar, Rift was initially going to have a class system like EQNext has announced way back when it was known as Heroes of Telara.  They changed direction around the time they re-announced the game as Rift: Planes of Telara and went with the standard system they have now.  It was the Heroes of Telara class system that originally attracted me to Rift and why I vehemently pursued the game and also how I ended up in Gaiscioch.

As much as I am wary of SoE because of their past and present business decisions, I am also extremely interested in how this game is going to revamp the fantasy sandbox and mix it with themepark.  I think it's incredibly ambitious and looks great for the future of MMO's that more and more companies are finally experimenting and breaking away from the EQ/DIKU MUD model (known to the young'uns as wow-clones)

One thing I am thinking after watching the video.  If the word is based on voxels and you can destroy everything.  Does or will the world heal?  Just think in minecraft once you destroy it it will never come back the way it was.  You have to fix or recreate it.  I wonder how this will work in eqnext?  If thousands of people are using skills that break things, there are going to be holes everywhere!  Just think of the trolls who will want to destroy everything.  I hope they figure this out :)

After watching the long videos from the reveal EQ Next jumped to the top of my watch list. I got into MMOs after the era of EQ and had already started playing Wow before seeing EQ2, so I never thought I'd end up playing an EQ game. I am certainly cautious about the game but it is an excited cautious. :) And Samoin, there was a short throw away comment in the reveal video that areas that take destruction damage will heal over time. I'm sure the rate of return is going to be one of their balancing acts.

The idea of building worlds excites me however theres still nothing mentioned on PvP in this game and the lack of leveling makes me worry about longevity. Without a unicorn theres nothing keeping people from coming back. Once they experience it all they will venture other places. However the lack of leveling would make some interesting community events if their product can handle 100 people working together to do something. Right now theres a bunch of unknowns and until we can fill in the blanks it's hard to tell if this is something we should be investigating or not. I've registered for both beta's and put a call out to sony to see if I might work my way into their company. Unfortunately unless I get some facetime with them it's going to be a hard sell. Never the less I do have this one on my "To Watch" board and if it is done right we may have a contender to ESO. But for that to happen they need to announce WvW/RvR/Siege Wars and be able to support large guilds. Still a long ways off and information is too scarce to put a definate on it. ATM it's about as close as when we first learned about Archeage. Unfortunately Archeage didn't meet our needs and is no longer in the running for potential chapter.  This might follow the same suit or it might suprise us. Regardless I'll be keeping an eye on it.

To be honest Fog, I wouldn't expect this to meet our expectations for a chapter.  It would be great if it did meet the requirements but I am expecting EQNext to cater to a more PvE, Craft and Raid based community at the expense of the PvP/RvR much like Rift did.

Samion, the voxel based destruction will reappear from what I have heard.  One video I watched described it like the old Red Faction FPS game where you could blow holes into the wall with a rocket launcher and it would eventually fill back in.  I imagine you could burst through the floor of a dungeon into a second layer but after 10 minutes or so that hole would be gone and the next group of players would never know it existed.

I'll probably at least buy this and give it an honest try. Though they don't mention it I would be very surprised if EQN does not have PvP content. Hard to imagine a MMO these days surviving without it.  But if by some odd chance it doesn't I still think I could enjoy the game.  Raiding being at the top of my list for fun in this game. The complete lack of raiding in GW2 (other then wvwvw) has left me truly missing it.

Looking forward to this game for a few reasons. I don't really have a fantasy mmo home any more.  Raiding again would be a lot of fun. I've come to miss raiding a lot. Hoping to find a "FUN, non elitist, non egomaniac, non psychopathic lead, not so clicky and stuck up," group of raiders there for long nights of laughter with little care of progression. I found such a group once upon a time. Hoping to find once again.

Making myself a few promises with this game though. I am not going to read ANY online content other then the news. I want to go in to this game as blind and ignorant as possible.   No guides, no maps and no advice. I want to discover every thing in game this time on my own or with friends. Just how I went into WoW and played for years. I discovered every thing on my own and I really think that is why I enjoyed it for so long.

My hopes for this game is that they make end content enormously hard to get to. That they make end game armor and weapons even harder to get to. And finally that they end up with a great community.

After watching a few of the videos, this is not a game I will play.

Rift graphics were about as cartoony as I choose to play. To me they are just horrible and the scenes of the giant breaking through the trees having them shatter like lego blocks... not impressive to me. I just can't get past the graphics no matter what interesting gameplay features it may eventually have.

After seeing the other games go to a sub model I have become more interested in this. I also don't think you always need a carrot dangling in front of you to have a fun sand-box type of game if community is encouraged.

My first MMO was EQ1, before there was even full-screen mode. I liked their lore. I liked that your actions had consequences, such as if you kill orcs, you have to stay invisible in the dark elf town or else get beat up by guards.

I don't know if it'll fit with Gaiscioch because none of the EQs have been particularly good for pvp. But after watching one a couple of the videos, I'm definitely interested.

EQ1 PvP wasn't bad more in line with UO than any of the later MMO's. There have been hints at about what they are thinking based on video interviews with DG. DG mentioned in one of the interviews after the reveal "with everything being destroyable think about what you can do with PvP and siege engines". Also mentioned player built castles in Landmark and having them in EQN.  So the potential is there but we wont know for sure until they release more info. Also keep in mind they plan on having contested content and based on the poll results there should be a fair amount of it. This could alo lend itself to some fun PvP GvG or RvR stuff.

Well the more they reveal about EQN the more I am interested. Really wish I'd get into the Beta. As much as I'd like it to be a Chapter candidate I really don't like PVP so if it ends up weak in EQN I wouldn't care. Now lets hope they can actually deliver on their goals. :)

I'm in Landmark and will definitely be playing Next. I wrote up a recap of the recent con that I think most will find interesting;  also, a review of what the difference is between Landmark and Next (which has many confused since SoE has done an abysmal job of communicating it clearly):

I am LOVING the building, even as I have a lot to learn to catch up with the "Voxelmancers". Here's a look at some of my builds as well as my growing inventory on SoE's Player Studio:

How is Landmark going? I'm looking for something to mess around with if I stop playing Archeage. Any idea how close it is to move from closed beta into release?
