Standardizing The Roster Rotation

Over the past two decades we've enjoyed several games that have allowed us the ability to leave members in the roster for years at a time after they departed the game. The future however is not so kind.  With shrinking guild sizes we feel it will be very important to make every member familiar with our rotating roster system.

How it Works

  • New & Returning Players are rotated in
  • Inactive Players (AFK) are rotated out
  • There is No Penalty for being rotated out.

Simply request a new invite in-gane when you get back in and one will be sent off to you.  Your rank and standing in the community is not affected at all. Players can go afk for years at a time and continue right where they left off.

Moving Forward

We will be implementing a standard 3 month AFK rotation policy for all games. Anyone that has been away from the game for three months will be rotated out to make room for new and returning players. In high demand situations this can and will be reduced to at the minimum 7 days.

This should be a good enough rotation to keep everyone who is playing right now in the roster while giving players that had to step away for a bit a chance to easily get back in when they return.

Once a Gaiscioch, Always a Gaiscioch

Why Remove More People than Needed?

This question is likely to come up and I'd like to give you a look at the bigger picture. The biggest challenge with running a community of this size is being able to sense changes in tides before they go to critical levels.  Plans can be changed, new events can be scheduled and adjustments can be made if we have the right metrics.

For example, in our previous system where we left people in the guild in-game and only rotated out the person who has been away the longest to invite new people basically showed us 490 people in the roster API feed. There is no last login time on the API feed for GW2 so it was nearly impossible for us to detect just how many active players we have in GW2 other than measuring it entirely off the last time they claimed participation or used the marketplace.

If something was to change in game we wouldn't notice other than seeing lower head counts at events and seeing just how much of a change in the tide we are looking at would be old news by the time we actually felt it.

With the new system we can get better visibility for how patches and updates affect our community and ensure that we don't learn of problems 6-12 months after they've already happened. We can make adjustments on a much tighter schedule to try to keep our communities healthy. Our goal is to stay ahead of the changes in current and be able to adapt as needed in a more reasonable timeframe
