Season 5 kicked off with a whole lot of question marks. Nobody knew how the new territory war mechanic was actually going to work. The new regions and the removal of old regions placed the whole world in a panic as they scrambled to have a piece of land for themselves.
Now the Territory War begins at 5:30PM PT in a pre-siege phase where you can set up outposts and field camps and assault gathering resources, docks, and ports to increase your claim on the main event at 6PM PT. Each house which owns a village in the region gains access to siege a town. The house with the most influence gains ruling house and can take center stage on the siege. (Kicking anyone who isn't them out of the battle.) Nodes of various colors weigh differently so a purple copper mine is worth more than a green copper mine. It adds another half an hour of frantic gameplay to the territory wars.
Outside of siege the new path system brings massive rewards to the mix. I was able to max out (1 to 30) a gold unit and a purple unit (1-20) with the unit exp tokens given out by the path system rewards. The seasonal rewards are similar to those of season 4 however you do have the ability to unlock some revamped season 1 skins.
I highly recommend checking out season 5. There have been some great improvements that help get players on a level playing field quickly.
