Gamescom 2023 Roundup

We saw a lot of exciting things at Gamescom this year. To make things easier I've highlighted the announcements below that I feel interest our community.

Nightingale

Releasing Early Access February 2024, Nightingale features a Victorian-era aesthetic mixed with a steampunk vibe featuring cross-world traveling through a series of portals players' creature mixing and matching cards. Each world is randomly generated based on the cards and features new challenges for the players to conquer. It is a medium-sized cooperative experience with the ability to play with 9 other players. We will be checking it out for sure and will likely have a server rented for this one.

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Launching October 24th, Return to Moria is aiming to take the survival crafting genre to a whole new direction by adding a rich story and procedurally generated worlds. If Valheim, Deep Rock Galactic and Greedfall were combined in the same game it would likely look like Return to Moria. I will be renting a server we can use as our own little private base to enjoy.

The First Descendant

Do you enjoy sci-fi cooperative shooters like Destiny, The Division, or Outriders? The First Descendant is aiming to join the collective of story-rich third-person shooters this fall as they move towards full launch. There is an open beta this month that will give you a chance to get hands-on with this new cooperative shooter.

Soulframe

From the studio that created Warframe comes a new fantasy MMORPG with influences from Studio Ghibli's masterpiece Princess Mononoke. So far not a lot is known aside from the breathtaking world in their most recent trailer which debuted at Tennocon. While at Gamescom they released this teaser trailer.

Then proceeded to drop this breathtaking 30-minute gameplay demo that is truly magnificent. Definitely watch the final boss fight at the end of the video.

This game for sure is going to be a must-play. We're not entirely sure how this will be an MMORPG or to what effect grouping will play but so far it looks like Elden Ring, Greedfall, and God of War all wrapped together with a Princess Mononoke undertone. We will keep a close eye on this one.

Crimson Desert

While Crimson Desert is largely a single-player game, there are whispers that it may feature co-op at release. We are tracking it in hopes that there is some cooperative gameplay but don't expect it to be a full-scale Black Desert. This game is designed to be story intensive with many arching paths and a focus on player choice and exploration. Overall it's quite beautiful and may appeal to many of our adventure seekers

Warhaven

There have been a few great entries in the siege battle simulator genre recently. Games like For Honor, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Conqueror's Blade, Chivalry 2, Warlanders, and Mordau building interest for more fast and frantic siege warfare titles.

On September 21st, Warhaven looks to add a new spin to the genre with magic. Built similarly to For Honor, Warhaven pits two teams against each other in various game modes to battle it out for supremacy. It is a free-to-play title from Nexon who has been working on several new games on our watchlist. If you like the siege brawler genre be sure to give this a look.

Delta Force

While not our typical wheelhouse, the Delta Force series has a unique place in Gaiscioch history. After the demise of our Dark Age of Camelot community and before the launch of our rebirth in Warhammer Online, Donaliam, DanCZ and I played a bit of Black Hawk Down which was a chapter of the Delta Force series. We actually played competitively and this ended up setting the foundation for our launch into Warhammer Online. When you think Delta Force you certainly don't think Gaiscioch but even in the smallest way it brought me back to the fold and encouraged me to bring Gaiscioch back to life.

Now a new Delta Force approaches and even though it may be largely a PVP title a few of us plan to give it a go just for memory's sake. Could be great… could be a Diet Cola version of the original. Check it out and let me know if you'd be interested in joining our team.
