December 2023 Adventure Outlook

This month we’ve a large selection of news that applies to the MMORPG and Cooperative scene. I'll take you through the good, the bad, the ugly, the road ahead, and the strangest news over the month.

The Good

  • Gangs of Sherwood joins the adventure lineup on November 30th with weekly adventures in December every Friday at 6 PM PT.

  • Dune Awakening announced they plan to launch an NDA-bound closed beta soon.

  • Warframe crossplay between consoles and PC launches in December.

  • Corepunk plans to launch alpha testing in December.

The Bad

  • Defend the Night puts development on hold. Developers cite a lack of funding as a key contributor to the project being shelved.

  • Gloria Victis closes its doors this month. After a wrong turn led them to a demolished player base with no time or funding to course correct.

  • Conqueror's Blade was marred by over a month of constant problems and outages leaving many players wondering about its future.

  • Fractured returned to Steam before having a malicious hacker break into a backdoor and delete everyone's towns from the map. They managed to have a rollback to bring back most of what was lost but things do not look good for this troubled MMORPG.

  • Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore loses 17,000 player accounts in ransomware hack killing the only population it had.

The Ugly

  • Kingdoms of Ereloth had a supremely bad rough start leading to layoffs and much of the project returning to the drawing board. With a massively overwhelming negative rating on Steam, things are not looking good for this upcoming MMORPG.

  • Pax Dei releases its first alpha which has a good foundation but needs a lot of work before it's ready. Additionally, they released more information about PvP and seem to be leaning toward one safe area, and the rest open PvP which makes it an unlikely chapter candidate.

  • Tarisland has its second major test and things are looking decent however they have made some changes recently most notable is the removal of the phrase “Non-P2W” from all social media outlets and marketing materials. This has a lot of fans on edge.

  • Archeage 2 upsets its fan base by announcing it will be forgoing large-scale PvP this time with a more PvE-focused approach.

  • Wayfinder continues to struggle as it suffers layoffs, revises its roadmap, and searches for a publisher.

The Say What Now?

  • Myth of Empires is back after a lengthy legal battle with Snail Games. Early access resumes Steam with an official launch date set for February 5th.

  • Pantheon makes a hard U-turn after announcing a 24/7 extraction mode. The PvE-only fan base nearly flipped the table over in outrage causing the Pantheon team to reverse its course.
