A Season to Rebuild

Season 9 so far has gone fairly well considering. Right out the gate, we had 35 of our most active players exit stage right. A couple went to other houses but largely the majority of them just disappeared and haven't been seen in the first 3 weeks of the new season.

This set us back quite a bit because in the period of a week we went from fielding 50+ to fielding at most 25. This in turn caused us to reevaluate our seasonal goals and put us back on the "building up" track.

Growth Progress

So far I have spent a week in Ostaria, Maoyang, and Longting trying to find new members. Unfortunately, they are few and far between. Until we can grow our player base our offensive potential is going to be a bit limited. We still have our defensive crew but without an offense, it's gonna be tough to grow past the land we have now and sustain it.

What changed?

The new season brought a lot of change to the base functionality of Territory Wars. The first and most noticeable was the change of prestige being earnable by players. This is no longer the case. The only way to earn prestige now is by completing house quests and holding land successfully.

Losing territory costs prestige and grows based on how much you lost each week. Losing fiefs exponentially grows the prestige loss. The first one is less than the second one and exponentially grows as you lose more in a single war. The more you lose the bigger the prestige hit.

Each fief on the map has both a level requirement and a minimum prestige requirement before you can attack it. If you don't meet both requirements it won't even let you in the fight. Thus if your house falls below the minimum prestige the only option you have is to grindhouse quests to get enough to try to attack a low-rank village. Nothing bleeds prestige like losses.

Now holding territory rewards the house prestige every single territory war. Upgrading the fief provides you bonus prestige and also an increase to the post-war tick. Defense and upgrading are more dominant than ever with this current territory wars system. Even YT is playing more cautiously this season because of it.

The outlook

This season we plan to establish a larger base in the southern borderlands where we have found a location that only has 1 entry point in a narrow corridor. It makes it easy to roadblock with smaller numbers and should serve as a good defensive location while we rebuild. I'm hoping next season they merge the servers and we can get back to growing once again. Until then I am focusing our efforts on getting some tier 5 fief quests on the map for our members to unlock new units and build back our warforce.
