I've had no idea what they were and pretty much ignored them since I started back in the game. Then I found out doing Ops with a group that the give Good Loot(tm). So, I looked up the Idiot's Guide to Conquests.

Here's a good blog post to get someone started on figuring out what this stuff is all about.

Conquest Guide in Plain English

and, no surprise because she has so much info on SWTOR, there's a Dulfy Conquest Guide.

The rewards seem pretty decent.

Hey Jae,

I LOVE conquest.  Conquest is the main reason I kept most my toons on Harbinger.  The guild I am in there is the #1 conquest guild in SWTOR -- all servers.  In fact, we are currently in a "guild war" against some other guilds, so we have been doing conquest on two planets simultaneously (main guild and alt guild).  It has been pretty darn fun.

It takes a LOT of work to get a guild ready to do conquest.  I have calculated that a guild needs 50 people achieving the minimum level of conquest points on a weekly basis to have a better than average chance to score in the top 10 on a planet.

It definitely has me hooked at the moment  :)

So in other words, it won't be possible for us?

If we get a guild flagship (50 Million credits), then we can invade planets.  Although, we would have to check which guild ranks can start an invasion.  The Ebon Hawk conquest scores are lower than the scores on my other server, so it would take less effort to rank.

Conquest Scores checked on Wednesday (conquest runs Tuesday - Sunday). There are 4 planets to invade this week, and here are current scores (low and high):

Ebon Hawk                                                     Harbinger

P1:  70K - 760K                                               114K  - 866K

P2:  103K - 825K                                             158K - 494K

P3:  233K - 2.2M                                             309K - 5.4M

P4:  202K - 2.6M                                             401K - 5.6M

Personal conquest goal is 20k to get the basic reward.  It is relatively easy to get 20k conquest points, but it was really difficult before I had maxed and geared toons.

On Harbinger, you usually need at least 1M conquest points by the end of the week in order to be included in the top 10 (which gives you a higher level reward).

Side Note:  This issue was discussed when the SWTOR social adventure was first proposed.  A couple of us described the amount of work needed to build a guild capable of participating in conquest.  The social adventure creators decided it was better to start a new guild instead of joining existing ones.

I think we'd have to contribute in another guild or recruit a LOT to be able to do guild conquests--we're just not big enough to do it at this time with the tiny size we're at now. The other issue is the time factor. I'd be happy to help with guild conquest points, but doing something like an OPs to get the lions share of points requires--again--a lot of people. The mechanics of Ops aren't hard when doing these with experienced groups, but it does require knowing one's class extremely well and max rotation dps/damage/healing and very good augmented gear to do these successfully even in story mode. It also needs at least 8 people--something we can't field quite yet.
