He is not embellishing about how the water has come in on the Jersey boardwalks. I've been watching some live stuff on the NYC ABC 7 station since dinner. For NYC and upper Jersey there will be high tide in a few minutes from now up to 9pm. Winds still pushing the surge inland and we are already seeing record high surge. Battery in southern Manhattan has finally beat the 1821 record high water and that was what they were saying two hours before the high tide. Due to how the storm is moving slow and now joined with the cold front line to the west, it is likely low tide will not let the water out until the second cycle of low tides we have from this point.
Here in the Catskills we have high winds that I can hear roaring over the mountain tops and it is still raining. Obviously I have power because I am still on the internet. We have a wind warning until 5pm est tomorrow and only a watch on flooding. However, my phone does not let me hear a caller if I answer, but if I call out it works. So thankfully we should not have an Irene repeat, but many other areas in NJ, NY, MA, PA and CT are far worse. Lots of power outages closer to the coast and even forced power shut downs in lower Manhattan in predicted in other spots to save further damage and issues until the water recedes. Think we have 2.2 million customers without power in CT, NY, Long Island, and NJ. I know Philly was having power issues much earlier due to a random player I linked up with and was playing with who had to log because her power started flickering and her mother-in-law had lost it already. (Side note: She is seriously thinking about checking out our guild after the two hours I did spend with her in Kessex.)
Praying all make it through this and that power is recovered quickly to those who have or will lose power. Even for my new found friend in Philly.
