Hi everybody,

i'm interested in what you think about GW2 esports. Since ANET provided spectator mode a couple of people started to stream tournaments, e.g. SOAC Gaming Tournament casted by BLU and Crouch. This is a tournament where the teams consist only of one profession. I watched this stream yesterday, it was the second tournament, the finalists where team mesmer and team necromancer. I won't spoil it who won, but I found it interesting that in the first tournament both teams already lost the first match without winning a single game.

I don't know yet, if watching these streams will help me getting better in WvW, or when i have more time again in sPVP, but seeing how some teams changed their strategies and builds to counter the other team was interesting, especially when the casters tried to explain the thought process of the changes.

Let me know what you think.

Have a nice day

Markus

PS on the second stream for this tournament they showed the best match of the whole tournament. The participants team guardian vs team thieves. Both lost the first match and just played for the places 5-8. This match ended 499 to 500 for the thieves, they turned the match in the last minute, it was so exciting to watch that :)

I really want Gw2 to be a esport and they hold tournaments like League Of Legends does..Don't think it will be as big as LoL but still could get better and they need more then just capture the points. Give us capture the flag or maybe give us a mode thats like Rifts black garden warfront.

You're right, some other game modes like CTF, Huttball or Rift Black Garden Warfront would be awesome. I think though ANet rather wants to finalize their systems in place to make it as stable and safe (security issues) as possible, before releasing new stuff to it. I'd respect this decision, but we have to see what they do next.

If Anet really wants sPVP to be a serious ESport, then they are going to have to do something that can generate excitement like the MOBAs. As it stands right now, its just not going to rise to the bar that LoL, DOTA, SMITE and other similar games have set. If you compare GW2's sPVP system against those games, you will notice that the MOBA's all share certain commonalities that make them exciting to play, and to watch... yet GW2's sPVP system lacks those elements. The sPVP system in GW2 reminds me more of Mythic's Wrath of Heroes, or World of Warcraft's Arena system. WoW's Arena has never taken off as a serious ESport and Mythic's WoH is now shut down after completely failing to garner any interest. Its my opinion that Anet should clip sPVP completely off of GW2 and add in some fascinating things that they would not want to crossover into the WvWvW system. Its perfectly fine to have a separate client for GW2's sPVP system. Players already have to leave the normal game areas to go view matches, anyway. I'm a fan of the idea, but I strongly feel that they need to go BIG, or go home.
