Ok, so you unlock the first dungeon at level 30...but Ive been advided you cant actually run it at 30 and be viable. Now I'm about 10k xp from 40...is it time yet? Or should I just wait till 80 to do these things? Also, Ive been eager to participate in the guild bounties etc, but after last night I found out I need waypoint completion. I cant get to 80 fast enough, lol.
You can do them at-level, but it will be lots of peril. Doing them around 5 levels higher (which is the requirement for the Explore-mode-entry of each dungeon) is better. Running them when you get to 80 will still have lots of peril due to the level adjustment system, you will still have to use good strats and dodge, but you will have your trait-skill buffs to help out. One thing, completing Story-mode will grant you a level appropriate Yellow piece of headgear. Thus waiting to run them at 80 may feel like a bit of a waste, but you can save these up and put them in the Mystic forge to gain a more level appropriate item. AC (level 30 dungeon) is much harder than most of the others "at-level".
You can run each dungeon the opens for story mode at the level you receive your letter (NPC letter) and it unlocks. Ascalonian Catacombs opened for you at 30. It'd be a good idea to update your gear and accessories to level 30. I'm running a GW 101 Saturday morning and doing that exact dungeon. Join me if you're available, its on the calendar.
Thanks so much ladies. I work Saturday morning but I might take the day off. We shall see =) I'll be over lvl 40 by then. I try to update my gear every five levels if I dont get good drops/rewards.
Story mode dungeons open every 10th level. Explorable paths are recommended 5 levels later. I believe that the level recommendation is shown in the game somewhere, but tbh, I forget where off-hand.
I agree you should try to complete your story dungeons as soon as you get your in-game letter. It won't be too bad on you as long as you update your gear prior to going, as Twilah said (you can skip the helm I suppose, as you'll probably be replacing it with the one you get for Story Completion). At 40, CM will open for you, so I suggest running your AC Story, which will level you to 40 and enable you to do CM Story right after. As long as you don't PuG them, you should be fine :)
Sounds good. I hit 40 last night. I work all weekend unfortunately. Ill be on tonight for a while when I get home at 6pm cst, Ill throw up a shout in game and see if anyone feels like running AC with me.
