Which profession do you keep coming back to?

Mine is the bloody Guardian.

Marrra hears me say that I want to play other professions to try a class that is a little more squishy and maybe a bit more damage yet last night and this morning when I completed my exotic armour (karma ftw!) set on the guardian, reclaiming a temple as well, I noticed how much I missed that 'tank' feeling and my shouts, greatsword and staff.

So as much as I try, I keep on coming back to him.

I've played my Elementalist up to almost level 70 now, my Engineer is in her 30s or 40s I think, Necromancer is in her 30s, Thief in 40s (I think) and Mesmer is in her 50s.. So I've tried a few and yet I keep thinking "But I want to play something different.." yet when I touch the Guardian again, I am like "Oh yeah, I really did miss this.."

Even after playing other professions, is there a profession you still find yourself coming back to? And what of it brings you back?

EDIT: Helps when it has a subject line before I hit post >.>

Warrior... Hands down Warrior I've got a ranger, thief, necro, and engi as babies all below 20. I have an 80 elementalist and my mesmer will be 80 soon but no one will ever take my warriors place.

For me, it's the engineer. I played a few characters at the lower levels and picked the engineer to level up to 80 first. I just love the versatility of the profession - getting a whole new set of 5 skills by using one of the 6 weapons or tool kits so it feels like I have a ton of options to work with. I usually stick with grenades for aoe(get lots of hits for lots of loot & xp)/condition damage(freeze, fire, blind, poison), and the pure thrill of getting to throw grenades in a rpg-fantasy-type game. Can switch to the elixer gun for healing, bleeding/weakening, crippling/swiftness, poisoning/vulnerability/condition removal, and leaping backward from enemies while spraying acid(damage for 5s). The turrets help distract enemies if you're trying to get away or just want them to chase you less. And there are still things I haven't played with much, including the flamethrower kit, the tool kit, the bomb kit, and most of the elixers. But the engineer also just fits in with overall, general playstyle of distance damage. I like someone else to go charging up and engage the enemy while I hit them from a distance or run around in zig-zags while they chase me and I still hit them while they miss me. That's true for the engineer, the necro, the ranger, the ele, etc. Though I will stand up a front a little more with the medium engineer if I'm with a bunch of squishies and I can take the heat better.

I played an ele in GW 1 and am just fond of the class. I also am playing an ele in GW 2. I just enjoy the variety the class offers. My char was a bit "squishy" until I added Superior rune of the dolyak to her gear--also added to my breather because you loose your helm in the water and the 6th "bonus" was not working in the water because of it. Admittedly I would love to have an engineer in my back pocket! Love the healing turret and find when it is around I feel unstoppable. I have experimented with the ranger class but still find myself wanting to play my ele. I think that we all find that class that we enjoy and that is what makes the different classes so awesome because there is something for everyone. It is so much fun to get in a group with a variety of classes because if played correctly each class brings something that makes it easier to fight and win! ;-)

My "come back to" is my Necro, which has never been my "main" and only hit 80 by accident of a really good 20 level run, over a 13 hour marathon in WvW. It was my WvW toon and since its 80 and I built a Rare quality MF suite, I use it for farming, dragons and, of late, dungeons. My Mesmer will hit 80 sometime tomorrow, 30 levels of crafting. Its becoming my new WvW toon and I will most likely gear her in a non-MF Exotic set and might dungeon with her, too, since MF doesn't affect Chest loot and those are the meat and potatoes of dungeons. As for what I want to "main", I have no idea. I can't decide what class I want to buy my Commander's book for. The Mesmer isn't very communications friendly, requires a lot of moving, dodging and skill mashing. I want something ranged for commanding, thinking maybe my Ranger, since its already 40, ranged and pretty uncomplicated to play. She's my GW1 legacy name, too, I originally intended her to be my "main", but all the bots wound up being Rangers and I got worried I'd be mistaken for a bot and reported. They're all fun, but TBH, I haven't really found that which fits my "style" yet.

I can't say I have a go back to character. It depends on how I feel at the time which character comes out. I have to admit Briseadh is getting a bit of a breather, not because I don't like playing my guardian, but more due to what I want to do with others in the game. For example, with every crafting fair (gathering zerg) of a zone I base it on level and which character hasn't been there before. This helps me open up maps on various toons though I'm not rushing any of them to 100% map complete since I have that on Briseadh already. What I need to do more of is WvW, PvP and dungeons. Of course, WvW and dungeons has always been about the timing and how I have felt at the time the opportunity to help family comes about. Now I have played my guardian, thief and engineer in WvW and all of them were a blast out there. So I don't even have a favorite for WvW yet. I got about an hour on the engineer earlier this week when I finally jumped in with a small crew running around. Engineer is a lot of fun out there so I'm sure she will wind up out there again. Anyway, I'm up to six characters and you will probably see them all as time goes on. =) At some point I'll probably add a mesmer and a warrior to have all 8 classes.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Ranger, no contest. I love the pets and everything about the character makes sense to me. I am raised an Asuran engineer and a human guardian just to play the personal storylines (I'm a lore nut) and to also get my Order of Whispers and Vigil banners. I'll raise a Sylvari and Char to about 30 to also experience the lore behind the races. But my Norn ranger Twilah is what I always come back to. I always have a pet, so there's an ally by my side. The longbow is my favorite weapon. I love her tatoos :) And I do like working for the Priory because like me they seek to know the "why" behind everything.

Warrior and Engineer. My Warrior, at 80, feels like a demi-god in PvE. With a modified Signet build and dual axes, there's very little I can't solo. Packs of less than 5 normal mobs feel like a waste of time, and my standard approach to Veterans is "press 1, then browse the TP". I've always loved to play melee, and I generally gauge a class's power by how well it can solo in the open world, so the Warrior is an excellent fit. However, GW2 group play (especially large group play like WvW and family events) is pretty hostile to melee, and my Warrior feels like a wasted slot most of the time. My Engineer, however, is amazing for group play. Permanent swiftness lets me keep up with even our fastest commanders, and I'm always either at the head of the zerg, or out in front of it, scouting and grabbing NPC agro. Most of my skills are AoE, and the weapon kits let me take on any role, be it dropping heal fields in open engagements, or raining death down on attackers. I'm constantly in the Mists trying out new spec and weapon combinations, because the Engineer can literally do it all. However, the class feels substantially weaker than most others in open world solo PvE, so life is extra frustrating when I can't find a team. I have a 60-something Elementalist (which is fun, but everyone and their brother is playing an Ele right now), a 30-something Mesmer (holy squishy defenselessness, Batman), and a couple of others that haven't really caught my interest yet.

Guardian all the way...and then some! My 80 guardian (Professor Whom) is my main, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have 8 characters, one of each class...Guardian simply fits with my playstyle the best. My thief is also 80, and fun, but I don't like taking her into dungeons. My Mesmer is coming along next, just under 50 now, and that is a TON of fun in dungeons. But I always come back to my Guardian, and Professor Whom will always be my main.

This is from a pretty much solo perspective, since I have yet to get into dungeons or much WvW. But I have tried all classes, some in the 20's, my warrior to 69 so far. I keep coming back to my Mesmer who is also my only 80. I think the Mesmer is more work than many classes to kill the same things, but there is just something about the playstyle. Its the twitchy, clone spamming, bounce around, weapon swapping, don't get hit thing. Feels kind of like the WoW feral (sometimes resto) druid I played for years, even when he was often the underdog class. I see the Mesmer as one of those classes where you can pull off amazing things (well at least to me), and have awesome survivability,.....or die very fast to a lag spike or bad skill use.

My Ranger for PVE and Engineer for WvW. I just cant seem to stay away from them. It feels like my Engineer was just made for laying seige to towers and fortresses. I mean come on. It comes with it's own mortar lol. And I love to see the 3 crits when I constantly toss grenades on top of the walls. In the PvE world I just feel ultimately comfortable taking on any thing with my Beast Master crit'ing machine of a Ranger. Watching my bear or wolf take the full blunt hit of a Champion and just have it stand there like "Is that all you got!!??" is intoxicating lol. Only time I don't like my Ranger is when dealing with those dang Risen... the only mob my pets will not hold aggro on... meh here's hoping for a patch some day soon on that.
