So a few people have asked what my build is for my sorc. It's highly effective and a lot of fun to play. This build is firmly based on Vylaer's build from ER, Tamriel Foundry.

Races.

Any race can use this build and it works. There are a few races that shine better than others.

Altmer is by far the best race for this build. lots of magicka and magicka regen as well as a DPS boost.

Breton is my second choice. They have good magicka and magicka regen but lack the DPS boost that Altmer and Dunmer have.

Dunmer is my third choice. They get magicka boost and a better dam boost for those who want to use fire staves over Altmer. But they lack the Magicka regen.

Health, Magicka, and Stamina, where do I put my points.

You want to go 50% health 50% magicka, you also can go 2:1 if you feel like it. When you reach end game Or level 50+ you want to respec into all health. This build is very squishy and the extra health helps if you get hit also you don't need to respec every time you decide to PVP.

Gearing, Enchants and Lore Stones.

Try and only use magicka enchanted gear.  Jewlery needs to have magicka regen or Magicka ability reduction. I'd lean more towards magicka Reduction of you are Atlmer or Breton. Other races might want to go for regen more.

You want to use a Restoration staff in your single target quick bar with the precise trait. Frost or Fire staff on your AOE bar with the same Trait.

For traits I'd go for Infused and Divine for increases from enchantments and your Lore Stone.

For your lore stone I'd go with The mage.

You will need to run all 7 light armor and get their passives.

The Builds.

This is the build I'm using with points spent in abilities and Morphs Leveling Build. Make sure you buy your passives as you go from the main build.

For solo VR content I use this Solo Build. Same passives as the main spec.

For end game content I use this build.

For PVP there are a couple set ups I use depending on what I'm doing vs group make up and what is needed.

Large Scale PVP I'd use this build if we had lots of healers. it has good AOE and self decent self heals because of how the build is set up.

Small Sclae PVP I'd use this build while soloing or where more support is needed. Also really good in small scale PVP.

Passives.

Entire Mages Guild Passive tree

Entire Light Armor Passive tree

Entire Storm Calling Passive tree

Cycle of Life (Increases damage by 10%)

Unholy Knowledge (Reduces Magicka and Stamina costs by 5%)

Blood Magic (Dark Magic spells heal player for 5% Max Health)

Power Stone (Reduces Ultimate cost by 15%)

Slayer (Increases Spell Power by 9% when attacking Undead and Daedric enemies)

I hope you all enjoy this build as much as I have been. If you have any questions please let me know.

Link to Vylaer's build He has a video up of him using this build in PVE at end game if you guys want to see it in action before you dedicate to it.

Edit: fixed both pvp builds with some suggestions from Mystborn as well as linking the right build for large scale.

This is very similar to what I had planned. As I'm low level I can't speak to the high end viability of it, but I can say that it seems like it will be great.

Thank you for the post Aunvyrae! I'm right in the middle of deciding between a Night Blade and a Sorcerer for my PvP adventures and leaning towards the Sorcerer so, this information is a life saver! I greatly appreciate how the post is stuffed full of information and have bookmarked it already. :)

Thanks again,

Tuz

Nice Build, here are a couple of points.

  • PvP Build 1 has no second bar.
  • PvP Build 1 uses Critical Surge and Inner Light, PvP build 2 uses Power Surge and Radiant Magelight - these are two different Morphs of the same skills so you can't have both without respeccing.
  • For PvP you really want Negate as your Ultimate - it's pretty much hands down the best Ulti in the game in every situation.  It's cool to have Shooting Star for the lulz (although Mage's Guild 10 is a pretty hard grind) but for "serious" pvp you want that negate.
  • I prefer Combat Prayer to Blessing of Restoration - 11% Group Damage buff is awesome.
  • Retreating Maneuvers is awesome to have on your bar, try to coordinate with the group and have everyone bring something to support the group.  RM is great for non stam users, Siege Shield is great for non healers.
  • The Lightning Armour with the speed bonus is sweet if you have room.
  • I would rock a ST bar using Resto Staff for that 21% damage bonus (10% Circle of Life, 11% Combat Prayer) and using sorc abilities then an AoE bar using Destro Staff (ell oh ell Impulse spam).
  • Also, Bolt Escape is completely broken and every Sorc should have it on one of their bars and abuse it until it gets a well deserved nerf.

What level are you and how much have you been able to actually try this build out?

PvP Build 1 has no second bar.

Because it's a large group set up. You use the second bar for what you feel is needed for large scale PVP. Not everyone is the same. What skills I prefer for large scale groups will be different to what you prefer based on play style.

PvP Build 1 uses Critical Surge and Inner Light, PvP build 2 uses Power Surge and Radiant Magelight - these are two different Morphs of the same skills so you can't have both without respeccing.

yeah oversight on my part. All these builds are 3-4 maybe even 5 different book marks. So some times when trying to consolidate them you miss things.

For PvP you really want Negate as your Ultimate - it's pretty much hands down the best Ulti in the game in every situation.  It's cool to have Shooting Star for the lulz (although Mage's Guild 10 is a pretty hard grind) but for "serious" pvp you want that negate.

it's a thought. I'll have to level it up and see how I like it. in large scale PVP (outside of Keep takes) well placed AOE can change a push or counter from a failure to a success. And since a lot of times in large scale you end up in close range AOE fests it would do more dam to and stress their healers more. Also, yeah be easier to get.

I prefer Combat Prayer to Blessing of Restoration - 11% Group Damage buff is awesome.

Yeah for some reason I had my PVE templar build in my head when I was picking this skill not sure why but yeah I'll fix that.

Retreating Maneuvers is awesome to have on your bar, try to coordinate with the group and have everyone bring something to support the group.  RM is great for non stam users, Siege Shield is great for non healers.

You can use that with the Large scale set up. As I said not every one likes to bring the same support abilities to large scale PVP.

The Lightning Armour with the speed bonus is sweet if you have room.

It is nice to have. I have it on my leveling build, but at the same time out side of the large group set up it would be hard to fit it in and still make the small scale pvp set up work. I'll try and play around with the set up and see if I can't find a spot to place it.

I would rock a ST bar using Resto Staff for that 21% damage bonus (10% Circle of Life, 11% Combat Prayer) and using sorc abilities then an AoE bar using Destro Staff (ell oh ell Impulse spam).

This I have tried with my Templar. The ability doesn't heal you... just those in front of you so you don't get the buffs from the ability. It is a group only support ability which is why I don't use it. Also the reason you use Impulse as your AOE is because it does the most dam out of all your AOE ability choices. Especially if you are a Dunmer or Altmer with a Fire Staff.

Also, Bolt Escape is completely broken and every Sorc should have it on one of their bars and abuse it until it gets a well deserved nerf.

I know it's a broken ability. And I know it's going to get nerfed. Which is the reason I don't use it. I hate getting use to clearly OP abilities just to get it nerfed and getting annoyed at the Devs for nerfing it. If I learn to play with out it it never becomes a crutch. But if you want to us by all means use it.

As a final Note Myst I played this in Beta and got it to around 45. So some of the higher end stuff is speculation. But from what I could get and what I was able to run and play with and try worked amazingly well. You are basically a nuker in any group outing and have the potential to do the most damage. it was also designed to never have to use your weapon attacks. So it's cast cast cast cast. Which is what I feel a caster should be doing not Left click left click Hold right. Also, this build is designed more for PVE than PVP, I just wanted to put some ideas if you like doing both and you can see how I decided to set up my bars for the two. It also has been tested in VR group content since like I said originally it's a build that closely follows Vylaer's from TF.

Ok, makes total sense to leave bar 2 blank for that reason, just wasn't sure if it was a link issue.

I cannot stress enough how important Negate is, while a good aoe can decide a push you have to realise what negate does.

  • Silences everyone in the area.
  • Immediately dispels all aoe effects *including other ultimates* in it's area.
  • Prevents any aoe effects being placed on that area for a duration.

It's basically an ability that says "we get to aoe you but you can't aoe us".  Storm Atro is great for levelling but Negate for PvP.

Combat Prayer does heal/buff you check out my video here for proof:

ESO Unraveled 10 - Healing

I know why you use Impulse lol, that's what I said you put it on your AoE bar using Destro Staff and have Single Target DPS on the Resto for the 21% more damage.

I totally understand why you might not have room for Lightning Armour - one of the things I love about this game is the limited bar space and the fact it makes you have to make decisions about which toys you get to bring and which you have to leave at home!

Regarding Bolt Escape, you actually do have it in build #2, I was just reaffirming how good it is and recommending it be included in any PvP build!  If you don't want to use it as a crutch maybe that would be a good spot to sub in the Lightning Armour?

If you're doing group PvP and have good heals consider using Spell Symmetry instead of Dark Conversion - You should get your health back from either the ambient aoe heals or your Critical Surge and it triggers "Power of the Guild" increasing spell damage on your next attack.

Wasn't trying to knock your build though man, it's a good build just making a few suggestions on how to tweak it to make it even better!

Ok as far as Combat Prayer is concerned it does. Must have been a bug when I was testing it earlier this week and it wasn't showing the buffs from it or heals.

I know why you use Impulse lol, that's what I said you put it on your AoE bar using Destro Staff and have Single Target DPS on the Resto for the 21% more damage.

This line is confusing me... almost all my builds use a resto staff for the 10% dam buff. But are you refering to the PVE part, PVP, which build? if you are refering to all of them for the extra 11% dam that wouldn't work. The PVE single target set up works very very well as is and to remove any of those abilities would make the build underperform.

Also, I did update all the PVP builds. I had some mistakes as well as I had my Solo PVE build as one of my PVP builds which was incorrect.
