Build Question

Thanks in advance to all that answer.

So a few days in and I have a Dragon Knight and a Nightblade that I have been playing the most.  Before I get too far into leveling them I have been confused about where to spend some points.   I have heard that I should basically put everything into health but then I have also heard that there was a change and I may need to put some points into stamina or magicka.  I have tried reading some of the post in this forum and others but I am still confused.

I'm not a player that gets so in depth that I'm looking at percentages and every small detail to squeek out the most.  From reading some of these topics people are getting way in over my head on the exact stats of each hit, and something called soft caps and hard caps.

So basically should I put all points into health, or do I need to spread them around so that I can do the damage needed at higher levels?

Honestly for attribute points put them where you want them.  It will only cost 100g per attribute point to respec.  That's only 4900g when you hit vet rank so it won't be life changing to respec.  The whole conversation of where to put you points was always a min/max conversation and not a "you have to do this" conversation.

I will say for all of my characters however much health I feel comfortable with will be spent in my attribute points for the convenience to stay at a somewhat permanent health number without needing to enchant new gear or always be repaired while leveling if that makes sense.

I agree with Barren but would add this:

Of the three - Magicka, Health, Stamina - the way I understand it all works is that Health adds MORE to your character but magicka & stamina add damage, either spell damage or melee damage.

What I have heard that seems right if this is correct is to add health until you max out for your level and then add some to the others and go back to health when you level, keeping health at max for the level. If you are a caster add to magicka and melee characters add to stamina. Or if you do both add to both.

Of course if you are planning to never ever get hit and want to nuke for as much damage as possible maybe no points in health. :)

Hope this makes sense to you!

I anyone knows better please post and help us all learn more!

Thank you!

Like others have said, it really depends. it's less of a balance between min/max and more in what you plan on doing or are comfortable with. You can still hit soft caps through enchanting regardless of where your points go, but while leveling you have to make more of a survival thought I've found. Like you have also have a DK and I started out putting points into magicka to up her magical damage. This was great for a bit.... then I started having more problems surviving and that's when I started to put a few points into health which has helped a ton. So I think in final set up I'll be going 10/29/10 (Magicka/health/Stamina) Since I use a little bit of both magic and stamina in my build.

I think @Aunvyrae has hit it right on the head - for the first few levels, you should put points where you more-or-less think they should go. As you level, you'll start feeling like your character needs more of something. That's where you put your points next then!

The example of boosting Magicka on a DK is a great one, since in all the DK builds I see, the lack of Magicka and Magicka regen is a limiting factor.

And, as mentioned above, respeccing those points won't be horribly costly, so you can do it when you hit 50.
