Upcoming Campaign Changes

Hi, everyone! Like Matt mentioned in his Road Ahead post, we’re looking closely at PvP in Cyrodiil right now. We’re actively working on reducing performance issues by optimizing Cyrodiil, and we’re also undergoing efforts to improve the feel of combat, but that’s not all we’re thinking about. As the Campaigns progress, we’ve been gathering lots of data and reading your comments here, on social media, and on other sites. We have some ideas for changes we’d like to make, but we want to get your direct feedback. Here’s a look at what we’re thinking about.

First and foremost, we want to assure you that any Campaigns we close before their natural shutdown time will properly reward players based on their tier reward, alliance placement, and leaderboard status.

We want to make significant changes to the types and durations of Campaigns. To do this, we’d shut down the currently-existing Campaigns and introduce five new ones per megaserver. Here are the Campaign types and durations we’re thinking about adding:

• Bow of Shadows: Veteran Rank only Campaign (five-day campaign)
• Blackwater Blade: Non-Veteran only Campaign (five-day campaign)
• Haderus: seven-day standard Campaign that anyone can join.
• Chillrend: seven-day standard Campaign that anyone can join.
• Thornblade: 30-day standard Campaign that anyone can join.

To go along with these new Campaigns, we’d like to adjust guest passes to have a 72-hour lockout, and to make changing your home Campaign cost 100,000 AP (also with a 72-hour lockout).

I for one am not sure I like the new changes for campaigns. They seem to convert them to shorter times so people see rewards for the efforts faster. but 5 day - 3 day campaigns seem to short in my honest opinion. I think they should be at least 1 month long. Also I'm not sure how popular VR rank only campaigns will be vs the one non-VR campaign. I for see that one campaign being like current Wabbajack and the rest being void of any thing.

I agree with the time frames being too short - I wouldn't mind them being 2 weeks in length - I think 3 days is just too quick.  We also need to bring up changes to the Emperor and former Emperors.   This is actually part of the campaign - unless they are going to do away with them all together except for title and armor/weapon rewards.

They are asking for input so please give it.

This also means that I will have several characters - some that never make it to VR ranks I guess just to be in the bottom tier campaigns with family and friends. Or just an AvA toon, so too speak, or a couple of them.  I guess I'm o.k. with that but still pondering it.

Sorry Fog, I didn't see your original post for some reason. Didn't mean to double post on the same subject.

Its hard for me to judge if short campaigns make sense until I see what the rewards will be. I think the concept of a non-VR campaign is a great idea. It should have been introduced at launch, actually.

I would *assume* that rewards for short campaigns will be less than the longer campaigns.

I think the goal here is for people to not be locked into a long campaign with no hope of redemption and then feel the need to jump to another campaign.

I feel like the 5/7 day campaigns will be where many of the super competitive guilds go because they'll be able to leverage the short duration and their high playtime to fight for leaderboard positions.  Those guilds like winning, and if you can "win" every 7 days rather than every 90 it's going to be an attraction for those people.

I think it's a very good start but could no doubt be tweaked to be even better.

Looking at it from a GSCH perspective, I assume we'd be forced to choose one of the campaigns open to both Vet and Non-Vet characters so we could all play together?

It may also cause some issues for those of us playing DC/AD if we're going to continue to not be allowed to play on the same campaign as the EP part has chosen.
