Everyone who crafts should do this right now

1) Create as many alts as you can. Doesn't matter what kind. 

2) After you create them, skip the whole intro quest stuff.

3) When you arrive in Davons Watch, park them at the bank. 

4) Log out. Log in on your main. On your main, create 4-5 white pieces of gear for each alt in each crafting skill you are interested in and then send them to your alts by putting them in your bank. Guess you could park them in a guild bank for 5 mins if you dont have room in your bank. 

5) Log out. Log in on alt(s). Disenchant/deconstuct those items you stored in your bank until you hit level 3 crafting in your various crafts. 

6) Put one skill point each in craft in the hireling passive ability.

7) Each day, each alt will give you a bag with a couple crafting goodies in it.

Not sure if it is just dumb luck, but in my first day's bags, I got an elegant lining (purple) and a tempering alloy (gold). Lets hope the dumb luck continues.

I did this about a week ago and have had a couple of purples so far. No goldies yet, but im sure they arent far away

Even if you don't craft you should do it - might be able to help out a family member in the future or make some gold.

I do this also for my 4 bank alts that hold all my stuff. My main that has the high crafting I let him open up the backs instead of the alts.

@Kalec, have you heard that makes a difference?

This is getting nerfed pretty soon though.  Instead of getting a loot box, the alts will get mats in the mail, meaning you cannot save the loot box for the character with highest crafting level to open.

Loot box is based on crafting level when you open it. Im not doing this for the mats,  just for the improvement items.

and I'm le tired.

Is anyone getting absolute rubbish from the Provisioning hireling? My toons are lowbies but the same level toons with Enchanting, Alchemy and Blacksmithing (all at skill craft level 10 or under) get level-appropriate stuff (even when opening on the alt that matches the craft, not on the highest level toon). My poor Provisioner, though, who is Level 30 Provisioning gets..... drumroll....  1 Dripping. Occasionally he gets 1 Corn Mash. If I open his stuff on my main, she gets 1 Dripping too.

Been doing this for a while now on all 8 char slots but yeah, it's getting nerfed soon - the change is in 1.1.1 already:

Crafting hireling mails no longer contain a loot box. Instead, they contain the random assortment of items which the box would have contained when you opened it. The items you receive in the mail are determined by the character for which the mail was intended.

• As a result of this change, the issue where hireling containers were sometimes empty has also been fixed.

 It's probably for the best to be honest, time to skill up all 8 characters to 2/3 in the hirelings I suppose!

Skilling up the alts shouldn't be an issue once I get my main crafter leveled up.  After weeks of debate - I just changed out my main explorer and main crafter based on how much fun I was really having.  Luckily the respect didn't break the bank (but close) but now breaking down everything that I loot on my crafter is going slow - but almost back to the same level with her.  (I really wasn't that far anyway).

After that I shall just let my alts start breaking down so they can level up - guess I shall also have to go collect skyshards in the starter areas and in Deshan to get the skill points - but hey - it is all fun!!!   I just wish I had spent more time in character creation - a couple of them are rather ugly :)
