Dedicated Crafters....why?

I played the extended beta and leveled many characters up to the 20 level.  I started crafting all crafts on my first toon and kept it that way.  I am wondering why it is not the best strategy to level your crafts on your main character.  From the discussions I saw of people who took their toons to 80, they had extra skill points they were not using so that doesn't seem to be an issue.  I know inventory space is limited but that could be remedied by creating mule toons, characters that you just use their bag space for storage.

So, what is the downside of leveling crafting with your main and what is the benefit of dedicating one of your toons to crafting?

Thanks,

Slovia

The big downside to all on the main is managing the alts!  I've only gotten 3 of them out of Cold Harbor so far and it's been quite the juggling act!  Granted, I am using my alts for hirelings as well, so that's going to be quite fun to level them enough to get it.  Level 2 hireling requires a level 12 in that craft.  That's a bear!

I'm doing ALL the crafting on one toon and I'm finding it a Herculean task.  Leveling is very slow and that's a lot of different resources to try and manage.

At level 6, I am seeing how it could be difficult to adventure if all the points are focused on crafting.  I think it still can be done, you just have to use tactics and plan carefully.

The upside is you can wear anything in the game.  Some items are bound to the creator.

It absolutely is possible to master all the crafts on one toon.  However, that is mathematically speaking: there are over 300 skill points available in the game, most builds only need 100-150 points (excluding crafting), and the crafting skills top that up by approximately another 130 (or so).

BUT... to get _every single_ skill point available would be a completely Herculean task.  Not impossible, but it would require a level of dedication far above most people and, furthermore, you would need to be doing the skill-point gathering whilst gathering mats for all of your different crafts and actually leveling the crafting up at the same time.  Short of playing 24/7 for a couple of months, I really don't see it happening inside the first year.  A year or two down the road, however, it may very well be that people start getting 'spare' skill points and decide that they would like one (or two or five) extra crafting skills, and start to graft additional trees onto their build.  We will see...
