Shared bank across account?

Reading between the lines on the recent AMA posted on the official site, it appears that there is a shared bank for all characters on an account. This came up in the discussion about the vanity pet as it seems this is a single pet that is bound to the account, not a separate one for each character on the account. The person answering questions stated that "If you wish to use the vanity pet on a different character, you can simply place it in the bank and retrieve it with the new character."

This also indicates that vanity pets take inventory space, which isn't a good thing. I won't be inclined to collect them if they're going to waste my inventory space. It's possible, too, that they could go into a "special area" that doesn't take inventory space but that you can pull the pet out of to move it to a new character.

Does anyone have more info on how bank storage works in ESO? Is it a single large shared bank for all characters, like in GW2, or is there individual character bank space and a small set of shared bank space like in LotRO? (Pretty sure it was LotRO that did that.)

Well, how many character slots do we get from start? 4? 6? 8 maybe? You could make a character and park him near the bank as an extra bank slot. Unless you are an altoholic like me who will use all the slots! _o/

And yes, from the beta I could notice that the bank slots are shared, even among characters in different factions. So you can make a khajiit character and send khajiit-looking armor for your Orc character :3

You can also purchase extra slots for your bank and your inventory, with in game coin. I think it was 100g? I can't remember the exact cost.

@Anaitis, I am pretty sure is was 1000g for the first upgrade.  I didn't buy that upgrade but I would assume the next one after that will be 10,000g etc.  Not 100% sure but I do remember seeing that the initial upgrade is 1k.

Wow, that's a lot of gold. I'm trying to remember, was gold the base coin? It's not like GW2 where you build coppers to silvers to gold, right?

And yes, I did see 8 as the official character slot count.

Thanks for sharing!  I didn't know horses could carry inventory!  I am even happier with my pre-purchase now! :-)

In the recent beta I was able to buy the bank upgrade (1,000G) by level 7 with no problem. I wasn't even consciously saving up for it. I just noticed that I had enough for the upgrade, so I bought it.

So i'm confused, is ESO a paid sub game, or is it free to play with purchasable items?   Or is this game going to squeeze our wallets from both ends?

It's sub based, the bank upgrades are purchased with in game currency. Not real cash.

Theres the Inventory Upgrade, and The Bank Upgrade, Inventory is a lot cheaper than the Bank one, but only apply to the character that bought the upgrade. The Horse will have extra slots (So I heard, not sure), and I guess almost everybody will have an character in a city just to craft and slot some craft items. About craft items you can use then from your bank, so you won't waste slots putting ores, Jute and maple.

Interesting, I didn't know a horse provides inventory space. The linked article above points out that what you feed the horse affects allows it to either get faster or carry more items.

Which leads to the next question, how do you switch mounts and what happens to the inventory on the mount when you switch? Do you only have one available to you at a time? I'm used to games where you can use any mount at any time, but if each mount has its own storage space I can't see them letting you have as many mounts as you want available to you all the time as that would be a lot of available storage space.

If what you feed the horse affects it's speed or it's inventory space, then it doesn't sound like shared space across horses as some will be able to carry more than others.

I'm a loot whore so the inventory increase was the first thing I purchased, and like Joojoobees said, that first increase is rather effortless and I had enough g to purchase w/o intentionally saving up.

Crafting from the tables with items from the bank is new for me in an MMO and an ABSOLUTE BLESSING :)
