Catching up on ESO

I have been inactive as a gamer in general for a few months, and will get back a normal level of playtime in January/February.  I am just starting to read up on ESO now.

Could anyone answer some quick questions to help me get right to the point about whether this game would work for me?

Is there a lot of RNG grind to gear up for PvP?  Do we need to enchant "plusses" on gear?

Is there a lot of fast, motor-skill-precision in combat, making use of lots of hotkeys?  (GW2 style would be good, Tera style would be better.)

Are there siege warfare, CTF. or other objective-based PvP areas for the factions to compete?

Are the death penalties very punishing such that they make players slow down the pace and be careful and risk-averse in PvP?

Some of these questions can't really be answered yet, as folks who have the best info are still under an NDA. I'll address what I can in brief, based on the publicly available info, but I also recommend going over all the links to vids and guides in the News section threads.

Nothing certain on gear grind, but it sounds counter to what they've talked about in terms of making PvP accessible to lvl 10s.

Combat seems to be about facing and clicking, though some abilities use a target lock. You'll only have 5 max active skills + an ultimate skill, so you should be doing more mouseclicking and less hotkey smashing.

PvP is siege and open field. CTF mini-games aren't supposed to exist; it's all about control over Cyrodiil. You will be able to level through PvP.

Reports are that death penalty is quite minor.

I can not in Beta but keep up to date pretty much every day on release info on sites I watch.. so, let me tell you what I know regarding your questions.

First is gear. gear isn't PVE or PVP. its across all play styles. Although you can change gear to change bonus' you get from them (out of combat of course) per situational awareness of what you can expect, IE: you can go from sword and shield in heavy armor to staff and light armor if you think you will be better equipped for the fight by wearing that gear.

Combat.. I'd expect a good pace. If you played Neverwinter, its a okay comparison. If you've played any Elder Scrolls game, IE Skyrim, that's a better estimation of how targeting would work. There are no hard locks on targets but "soft" locks to allow for internet lag to not turn it into a twitch shooter type pvp.

The PVP, is FvFvF or Faction v Faction v Faction in Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil is huge. Once again, if you've played Skyrim, imagine the size of that map (we've been told) is to be a good estimation of how large it is. Siege warfare, yep. And when you take a keep, whatever damage you did stays, and you have to repair it. There will be no pvp mini games such as CFT or king of the hill, the pvp starts and stops at Cyrodiil, open world pvp style.

As far as a death penalty, have not heard anything huge, other than having to rez at a "waypoint" if nobody has a charged soul gem to rez you.

Like I said, everything above is from the web, not the game. Anything else specifically you want to know?

If there are no instances, will PvP be everywhere?  Completely non-consensual?  Attack anyone in other factions anywhere whether they like it or not?   That works fine for me, but I thought that would fail Gaiscioch's criteria.

Well, let me clarify, there are instances in so far as each zone is an instance. PVP is only active in Cyrodiil because that is the only zone which you will meet other faction players. The world is split into zones to handle the megaserver technology they are using.

So.. you'll be able to go into Skyrim as a Redguard, but that "world" won't be the same "world" or instance, as Nord players are in.

Not sure where you got "no instances" out of anything we've said, but I'll clarify based on your new rounds of questions.

PvP is NOT everywhere. It is only in the Cyrodiil zone. You will queue through your campaign interface to enter Cyrodiil. Once in Cyrodiil, you can be attacked by anyone from either of the other factions, for as long as you are in Cyrodiil.

There was just a Q&A thread done on ESO PvP by their lead PvP designer. Fog linked it in the ESO news section. It might be very helpful to you.
