The Lost Vale: Part 5 - Right Wing: Butcher Gutbeater

By: Damihdez

My good friend the Butcher gets his own section. But before we talk about all the fun you'll have with him, let's discuss how to get to his house.

Head back out of the cave and then take the path that you didn't take earlier. The first few groups should be no problem for you, but take a minute to get your team up to speed when you see the next set of stone stairs.

These groups are easy enough IF you make sure there are no adds. The way it works is that the Gnoblars called Gorge-Maw Scouts will start running as soon as you aggro the group. They will head for the next level up, and that group will aggro. Then the Scouts from that level go to the next, etc. So, to avoid having 8 ogres splattering your face, you need to take care of the Gorge-Maw Scouts quickly.

Here's what worked for us: have each of your DPS call one of the Scouts (like "I'll take the one on the branch"). Then one of the tanks can run up and knock the scouts down while the DPS nukes them remorselessly. Meanwhile, the other tank picks up the ogres and faces them away from the DPS. Repeat this all the way up the stairway.

After that, the mobs are back to lightweights. Eventually you will reach a big cliff with a ruined stone building to your right. The Butcher is inside here. I recommend entering his place through the farther of the two entrances so that you can get set up for the dance.

This is another place where you NEED to be able to see health percentages. If you haven't done so, have your team get the ShowHealthPercent mod. If you are fanatically anti-mod, please reconsider. This fight is basically impossible without SOMEONE watching the Butcher's health so either way you will be dependent on the mod, even if you're not the one technically doing it. And it's just not nice to make people do something that you won't do yourself. Okay, that's it for the mod-pitch.

Here's the way this fight works: one tank takes the Butcher, one tank takes his Gnoblar buddy. You should keep them a little ways apart so that AoE's on the Butcher don't accidentally kill the Gnoblar. The Butcher can smack someone with a really nasty single-target knockback, so try not to stand in front of the doorway or you will go flying off the cliff. This knockback does some pretty bad falling damage as well, I think only if you hit something in flight.

Both of these guys enrage, but for different reasons. The Gnoblar just enrages as time goes by, but he is very easy to kill. You don't want to kill him too much though, because the Butcher enrages more each time the Gnoblar dies.

What you want to do is have everyone start the fight by burning the Butcher as brutally as possible. The tank will pull the Butcher into the back corner farthest away from his stew pot and the other tank should grab the Gnoblar and pull him roughly into the center of the room. You want to take the Butcher's life down as fast as humanly possible so that the Gnoblar doesn't have time to enrage too much. When the Butcher gets to about 75% health, switch over to the Gnoblar and kill him. The Gnoblar will instantly respawn, so the tank assigned to the Gnoblar needs to pick him up again IMMEDIATELY. Then quickly switch back to the Butcher until 50% health, then go after the Gnoblar again. Again, beware that the Butcher does more damage each time the Gnoblar dies. Repeat again at 25%, then just annihilate the Butcher. Just keep the Gnoblar away so that DPS can AoE the Butcher.

This is another tough fight, so be prepared to flee if you lose a healer or a tank. This fight is essentially impossible without both healers and both tanks up. The MDPS might be able to tank the Gnoblar BRIEFLY in the center of the room if the Butcher is 25% or less. But a better bet would be to just ignore the Gnoblar and have DPS switch to single target abilities. Honestly, you should consider retreating if ANYONE dies before the Butcher is below 25%.

When fleeing, you need to get someone with a rez ability (spell, potion, or banner-Rally) all the way back around the cliffside that led up to the Butcher's hang out. He should reset then.

Remember to turn in the quest to the Everqueen and get the next step. She should spawn next to the Butcher's stew pot.

Incidentally, you don't need the Sprite Wings, Gorger Hair, or Darkpromise Blossoms along the way to the Butcher's pad. They just take up space in your inventory.
