Poor Tom, The Cursed - Part 1

By: Humpy

Photobucket

This is the story of Poor Tom, the Cursed. How Tom and Fionasinna fell in love and how they became to be as they are now. The story will be made of many parts so keep checking back for more!

(All named characters in this story can be found in the Sanctum and throughout the world or Rift. This is not the actual story of the characters. This story was completely made up and just for fun. If anyone likes my stories please do not hesitate to let me know as I do like to get feedback from my work. If you have any suggestions about Named NPC's in Rift that you might want to hear a story about please tell me and I will try to fit it into a Story of its own or even manage to add that character into Poor Tom, The Cursed. Thank you for reading! Humpy!)

Part 1

I know I shouldn't blame myself for what happened, but sometimes I can't help thinking that if I had just done something different that day. If I would have tried harder that day then things could've been different today.

I was 19 at the time. Fionasinna and I had been best friends since we were five years old and we'd been dating for about a year. You can call it Puppy love if you like but I doubt I will ever find a friend as good as her. This warm day in the early summer season we were sitting at our usual spot, on the balcony of the castle overlooking all the travelers and citizens who walked by below us. We went to this spot almost every day once she got off work from the dye shop that her mother owned. It was my Favourite time of day, sitting there feeling the breeze on my skin, with her head gently laying on my shoulder, stroking her hair slowly. But this day was different. She was sitting strait up, back and not even looking over the balcony with me. You see the problem was my mother told me the night before that I was inlisted into the Military and would be sent off in the next couple days. I obbiously got upset, though not about being in the guards but that i would be leaving the Sanctum for a long time and not know when I might be returning. I'd never been away from Fionasinna more then two weeks strait, and now i would be away from her for months at a time, not being able to see her on a daily basis.

I hadn't told her yet, but she knew. she'd known because her older brother at my age was sent off at the age of nineteen as well. She also new I'd tell her when i was ready for it.

"im going away," I suddenly said, followed by a moment of silence. I watched her reaction closely. She didnt move a Muscle just sat there staring up into the sky. "permanently?" was her short reply

Though I didn't answer. She understood.

"So i guess this is it then?" she said calmly. She couldn't hold back the tears anymore.

"We still have a couple days before I leave" I said after a pause feeling just as sorry for her asI did for myself. I couldn't look her in the eyes.

"And then what?" she asked, now with a sense of anger in her voice.

"Fionasinna, please," I begun but didnt know how to continue. Now i too stood up. I could understand how she felt, I felt it too, but at least it didn't have to end right away did it?

"Forget it," she snapped and turned around.

"Fionasinna!" I tried but she had no intentions to stay. I thought she just needed some time on her own to sink things in, so i didn't run after her.

I spent most of my last day in town walking around, collecting my thoughts. I didn't want to leave Fionasinna. I'd known her for as long as I could remember, and over the years had fallen in love with her even though I never told her that. The thought of us being apart from each other had never crossed my mind before. I knew her so well and she knew me. Or at least I thoght that was the case. I couldnt get over her sudden reaction from our discussion the day before and how it had taken me by suprise. I thoght we'd be talking about the situation, sit there together on the balcony until the sun went down, and just doing the best with the short time we had left together before I had to leave. But of course, she needed some time.

That day after she got off work from her mothers dye shop I waited at the balcony thinking she might come. I was hoping we could talk, I thought. But she never came.

Later that evening I went to Fionasinna's house. I just had to see how she was doing and I couldn't wait until the morning. I knocked on the door twice before entering. We'd been at each others house so often we were past the stage where we waited for someone to open the door years ago. I knew her parents very well and she knew mine.

As I entered the house I called to see if anyone was around. There was no reply. but as I looked into the living room I saw sarah's mother sitting on the sofa crying. Her husband was holding her, and although I'm not sure, I think he was crying too.

I wanted to ask what had happened, but I couldn't get any words out of my mouth. I just stood there, watching the two.

"I think it's best if you leave." It was the father who said something. "we need to be alone."

I didn't ask any questions, just turned around and walked out the door. I was confused and thoughts were spinning around in my head. Wasn't Fionasinna at home, or was she avoiding me? And whats wrong with her parents?

After leaving the house I didn't feel like going home. There was nothing there for me, I went back to the balcony hoping Fionasinna would be there, as I hadn't seen her at the house. Or maybe she had avoided me?

She wasn't at the Balcony.

I got home unusually late that evening, and my parents yelled at me and said they'd been worried. I didn't listen. Then my mother said that Fionasinna's father came over, and that he'd asked her to get me to come back when I got home. That caught my attention.

When I got to Fionasinna's house her father was the one who answered the door right away. His voice was shaking. He began by apoligizing for sendingme away earlier, and he felt he had to explain why. After all, I was like part of the family, he said.

Fionasinna's father begun to tell me that she had disapeared. She never came to the dye shop that day for work and the Sanctum guards have been searching the city for her all day long.

I left Fionasinna's house shortly after her father told me the news and started combing the city myself, then finally finding myself back at the balcony where I ended up falling asleep waiting.

The next day my parents came to find me on the balcony shortly after I woke up and informed me that I would be leaving shortly to join the guard.

Shortly after I arived at the house, My commander, General Marcus who went my Marcus the Brute knocked on the door. I followed him out and my troop gathered in the middle of the bridge where Marcus begun to inform us of our destination and our orders.
