Character Background
Maethus Soarich is a middle-aged High Order Skyborne of the Alliance, born and raised on Zephras Isle during the long years when the wind spirits still answered. He carries a solid, athletic build and clear sky-blue skin marked by flowing, wind-like tattoos that swirl across his arms and torso. These markings appeared the night the whispers first became unmistakable. He keeps his head clean-shaven, but a short, neatly trimmed white-and-silver beard frames his jaw. His eyes glow a soft, steady blue that seems to catch and hold the sky itself.
He was born into a respected but not elite High Order family of record-keepers and ley-line cartographers. While his parents and older siblings remained firmly focused on reclaiming lost arcane knowledge, Maethus was always the quieter one, drawn more to the open terraces and wind-corridors of the island than to the libraries. When the wind spirits vanished and the pylons began to fail, most of the High Order saw it as final proof that the shen’dorei must stand alone. Maethus heard something else.
The whispers began small—half-heard currents at the edge of sleep, a phrase carried on a sudden gust. One night they surged strongly enough that the wind itself left its mark upon his skin. From that moment he understood that the spirits were not entirely gone. The different faces of nature—storm and star, claw and fang, root and leaf—were simply different currents of the same wind. By walking all of them as a druid, he hopes to hear more clearly and eventually find the way to call the spirits home.
His driving purpose remains simple and steadfast: return the wind spirits to Zephras Isle and learn why they left. He still believes they can be found. He still speaks of them in the present tense. And he still listens.
He collects windchimes of every kind and hangs them wherever he stays more than a night; the sound helps him tune in. He carries a small, smooth piece of Zephras stone that he turns in his fingers when thinking. When the wind shifts, he often tilts his head slightly, as if catching a half-heard word.
Maethus is quietly earnest, gently curious, and stubborn in a soft way. He does not argue loudly—he simply keeps listening and keeps going. A dry, understated humor surfaces around those he trusts, and he retains a mild absent-minded quality, sometimes pausing mid-conversation because he thought he heard something on the air. Optimistic without being naïve, he approaches Azeroth with the open curiosity of a man who has already lived one life and chosen to begin another in service of a voice only he seems to hear clearly.
