I posted this on reddit not too long ago. If you play TF2 or know people who do, (You most likely do as this is one of the most played online games ever) to please click on or send them this link. Especially if you have your own information about this new malware. The body of the reddit post reads:

https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/2hrg64/trojansteamburgler1/

"Trojan.Steamburgler.1"

"Word's been going around recently that a whole bunch of 3rd party servers got infected with this named malware and that it's compromising Steam accounts. Just doing a google search (link below) brings up several articles and discussions about it.

Was there or is there going to be an official word on this? Apparently, some people have already been infected. I'm going to have a buddy who works in the IT/Computer Management field to try to get the malware on his virus/malware test PC (He plays TF2 so he has a stake in this too), to prove that the threat is indeed real and not a hoax. May post proof of legitimacy claims soon.

For those who do believe it now though, or want to play it safe, just stick to Valve servers for now I guess.

Anyone with information about this new malware, or can prove that they have contracted the malware please comment either here or http://steamcommunity.com/app/440/discussions/0/616189106661111653/?tscn=1411965005 with evidence.

The Malware has been confirmed as a hoax. Thank goodness too.

Not sure, but there was a command line vulnerability bug in BASH that affected Linux and OS/X machines (aka Apple), so its possible that 3rd party server machines were hacked.

It turns out that this Malware was a hoax. Some people started rumors about it and fabricated their own accounts to make them look as if they were hacked into in order to get some pity attention or whatever.

I'm glad, that it's a hoax.
