Anybody looking at the Hex kickstarter?

I've already pledged in their kickstarter, but when I started looking for a guild when it releases (beta starts around September 2013, release around March/May 2014) I first thought about Gaiscioch. Has anybody looked at this game as a possible Saighdear? It's outside of the traditional Gaiscioch game but I know there are a fair number of M:tG players in the guild so there might be a good amount of interest in this (free to play) TCG as well.

For those who haven't seen it yet, Hex is a kickstarter project for the first MMOTCG (Massively Multiplayer Online Trading Card Game) that mixes MMORPG elements with TCG elements, kind of like mixing Rift with Magic:The Gathering with the added benefit of a card game designed from the ground up to take advantage of its digital nature. They've already reached their $300k goal on kickstarter and several of the stretch goals have been reached.

If you remember and enjoyed the old Shandalar game by Microprose (it was called Magic: The Gathering) from the 80's then you might want to have a look.

It looks interesting, but with a F2P model combined with a TCG, it reaks of pay to win.

The way it works is that PvE cards are obtained through playing through the campaign (dungeons, raids, etc) and are only usable in PvE, although there are a few tourneys with a kind of Free For All format that allow you to bring all your cards to the table. PvP cards are obtained strictly through boosters and those can be played in PvE. It looks like if you're interested in PvE, it's very much free to play and there's relatively little investment required. Another way to look at it is PvE is free to play and PvP is more of a freemium game. MUCH cheaper than MTGO though. As far as pay to win goes, the most popular format for most of the official tournaments is going to be draft (I've pasted a summary of how draft works below). A booster will normally cost about $2/each, so playing in a draft would cost you a maximum of $7. Anyway, it's definitely not for everybody, but I know there are a few people in the guild that are addicted to Magic: the Gathering and other TCG-type games that might be interested. I'm currently pledged at the $250 level for a free draft every week for life (mine or the game's, whichever goes first). For those not familiar with Drafting, each player will open a booster pack and select a card from it. They then pass the booster pack to their neighbor in the draft. Since everyone does this, everyone ends up with a new booster pack with one less card. Every player then selects another card and passes again. Players continue until all of the cards are gone. Then they repeat this twice more, with booster packs 2 and 3. At the end of the draft, players have the cards they drafted and may use them to construct a deck.
