New MMO similar to GW2 but alot more content coming early this year called Dragon Prophet

I dont know if anyone is keeping an eye on very many new MMO but this one I have  been watching for awhile now.  Its going to be completely free to play and  it has quite a few things that might be attractive to the family. Dragons as mounts and fighting partners which give you skills. You have to actively find the dragons and tame them. Personal housing, Guild  housing that can lead to empires with massive cities and npc guards and the like. A sandbox type system similar to the old star wars galaxies. There will be a frontier where guilds will build there  fortress and castles and that these areas are pvp enabled.  Guilds can grow there empires  by controling land in the frontiers. I  kinda wanted to see if thee would be any interest in this game to see if maybe can find some people to play it with. I dont intend to stop playing GW2 but I would like to try this game out since it has  alot of pontetial and of course hehe its free. SOE is backing it and running its item shop which isnt really a bad thing but I know some  people do not like them. The creators of the game are the same ones who made Runes of Magic.

I hadn't been looking but I have to say that does look pretty cool.

dunno from past exp SoE hasnt lived up to their promises. I was eq1, eq2, and vanguard.

Interesting. SOE is also doing a more "perma-death" type of game, called Wizardy Online. I have a beta invite to that, but I keep forgetting to install and check it out. I'll have to look into this one, as well. Thanks for the heads-up!

I loved the Wizardry line of games so I was very excited to hear about Wizardry Online. Was... I'll give it more of a chance some day but it definitely didn't grab me like many other games have in the past. Kind of pushed me away more like. That Dragon's Prophet looks interesting. I've liked SOE's products in the past. Loved Vanguard. But like Jexia said I always approach their games now warily. I noticed that this was actually made by the creators of Runes of Magic? That was a fun, although a bit generic, game from the little I played it.

I tried signing up for the Beta, but there's no apply button on the Beta app page. I'm thinking its currently not open. I added them to my Twitter, so I'll tweet at them tomorrow and see what's up with that.

Ahoy. This is the first I've heard of this game. I love Dragons, but not a fan of Sony sponsored games. But I'd be willing to give it a go. :) I don't have patience anymore doing beta. So keep this thread going with posts on any new information. Cheers! Garyc

@Sekkerhund: When I clicked "apply for the beta" on the front page, it took me to a page and told me they'd use the email address at the bottom of the page, so I think just going to that second page signs you up (I did have to sign in with my Station account first, however, so perhaps that's how they snagged my email?). As for the game itself, I'd say it's worth a look, but my expectations are not too high (and perhaps that's a good thing!).

i looked at it however taken straight from the FAQ list on the offcial site it is pay to win . using real life money you can purchase content, and equipment like armor, weapons, items etc to give you a advantage in game . i`m sure it may be good but can`t see playing a game where you can buy actual ingame equip to have a advantage oiver other players , this game is actualy borderline on that already .

That's why I'm glad I simply get joy out of the act of playing games. Whether or not someone has better gear or more money than me has no effect at all on whether I have fun or not. Of course that implies I'm focusing on PvE. If I was going to play a game mainly for PvP then I could see myself being a little miffed if I knew everyone else was buying supercharged items. Even then though my assumption is that not EVERYONE will be buying items which means I'll still be playing against other people like me more often than not.

@Charlatan good thing I checked back here, I forgot to ask them, but asking now and awaiting a response.

I'll check this out when i get home tonight. In the meantime I have a very big itch that I need to scratch and that itch is Wizardry online, hardcore? permadeath? i must check this out

I've had enough disappointments with SoE I wouldn't do it if they paid me! Never again!

Well Wizardry Online is nothing to write home about. Shame really, I was excited to see a hardcore dungeon crawl MMO, but in all honesty, the quality is worse than DDO. It looks like Vanguards Engine which isn't a bad thing, but the animations, graphics and jerkiness of the game just feel way too old for a game that is being released next week. Glad I got to test it first.

I signed up for the beta just cuz. One thing I will say about SOE, they mostly did a good job with DCUO as far as corporate decisions and support and whatnot. I have a lifetime sub to that and they have treated the lifetime members very well. I had an extraordinarily bad customer service experience (long story involving repeated refusals to address my issue that culminated in my giving up on e-support and having an extraordinarily beligerant telephone CSR mistreat me) with the game on launch (it would not work due to a network problem on their end, which they fixed within 8 days of launch) - called corporate and got a bunch of freebies that were of actual value to me worth approx. $100 for my troubles without even asking for anything beyond getting my first "free" month to start on the day I was actually able to get into the game (the executive I spoke to said she was so appreciative that I was talking to her calmly and was being good about the whole thing and wanted to thank me for not calling up screaming and cursing and making demands like most calls she gets from customers). The exec wanted to make sure I knew that they learned their lessons from SW: Galaxies and nothing like that would ever happen again on her watch. I have not done more than try out any other SOE games, so I cannot speak for them. I do have several close friends that worked at SOE at different points in time. They all got laid off, but none of them were bitter about it, they understood the business decisions behind it and have better jobs with their accomplishments of SOE on their resumes (they will freely tell you that SOE treats their developers poorly, but they do not hold any bitterness against the company for it - they enjoyed their work there and were glad for the experience, knowing in advance to expect their jobs to end at the end of the project if not sooner).

Was there a sign-up page? All I get is an email, a change email button and a checkbox for the newsletter. They're not answering my tweets, so will probably hit up their FB page to find out what the deal is with that page.

I think that is the confirmation for registering for the beta even though it looks like it is not.

Man I just tried the beta of Wizardry Online. I must say the intro was one of the coolest and funniest ones I've ever seen, but the gameplay is just.. Bad. Not being able to scroll through the dialogue without skipping the entire thing was maddening, and the rest of the controls were just.. Oh man I liked the character creation concept but the way they implemented everything is just sooo bad. I am disappointed. I also couldn't sign up for the beta as they had no button for me to progress with actually signing up for it.

@Nash.. I'm giving it a second chance today. The actual gameplay mechanics are something I have wanted to see in a Triple A MMO for a very long time. Unfortunately, this isn't a triple A MMO. I wonder how long it has been in Japan for, everything about the actual game engine feels about 8 or 9 years old.

This game looks like it has a lot of good features, but the graphics immediately made me feel something was missing. Does anyone know anything about it who can say anything about it? It seems to be one of those games that has built itself up with a lot of promises, but may not do so well. It looked really awesome, with being able to pretty much build your own empire, but I'm pretty hesitant about it. If I can get a recommendation from a few people, I may try it. Otherwise, nope. I'ma wait for ESO

Guys, Dragon Prophet is still under NDA. Revealing any information is strictly prohibited including that you are part of the Beta.

...especially when its negative comments, like the post that was thankfully removed. Of which is a perfect example of why game developers have NDAs for their Beta testers. Its a product in development, and publicly posting negative comments is just not fair to the product, the developers or the work that they are doing with it. As a Beta tester, you are invited to take part in the product's development by helping test various design and mechanics, give your feedback and overall, to help improve their final product. If you don't like certain aspects about the game, developers always welcome their testers to post constructive feedback in their Beta forums, but posting bad reviews and comments on other websites is just bad juju. You'd be surprised how many games are delayed to be fixed, or taken back to the drawing board, because of tester feedback efforts on their Beta forums. I can not comment specifically, but just give them a chance to develop this product.

*hangs his head in shame* Sorry. Hoping it turns out well. Once NDA is gone and if it gets enough good reviews from our community, I may give it a shot. I'll keep my eye open, cause I can't judge a book by it's cover, or a game by it's graphics. *smiles sheepishly*

LOL no worries. :) I'm guilty of breaking NDA and bashing on games, too. Some have deserved it, but it doesn't make me right in doing so. I'm trying to be good now and respect the NDA. ;)

All I have to say after playing is I hope they do A LOT of work on it. A LOT. It has potential.... @Ragmar... me eyes hurts! lol >.<

Ahh NDA lifted! Well for one, the graphics are HORRIBLE! It hurt my eyes so much to play longer then 15-20 mins at a time, and that was at max settings. The SS has nicer resolution than what is in game. No real controller support, have to go through a separate program. (I use xpadder). The quests are not easily defined. Took forever to figure out what to kill or where to go. My main gripe: To catch your dragon, you first have to whittle it's health down then "catch it" by mounting it and controlling it. The problem: other players can come by and just kill your "attempted mount". I never got to finish this as every time I tried, someone came by and off'ed it. Classes are a tank, archer, cleric, and sorcerer. The character customization is....wow. I think the one thing that got me was the butt size and angle. O.o
