laptop shopping for my mom

Hi,

Question -- opinions wanted.  My mom is in the market for a new laptop.  Her top budget is $600 and that might take some convincing as well.  She is looking at $350-$400 but being this time of year it might not be unheard of to get that.

Anyway, she pretty much surfs the internet, listens to pandora and plays games like what you would find on bigfish.com and maybe a movie or two on netflix.

I want her to get someing along the lines of this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131303

and she is looking at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131303

only the version walmart would carry.  Not that there is anything wrong with wally world (we live in a small town and that is pretty much our only store).  She is retired so on a limited budget but my reasoning is the better computer would last longer (thinking in terms of upgrading here).

What do you all think?

Links you posted is the same for both. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230537 The link above is a laptop at 599$ like the one you posted but it is an Asus instead and have a dedicated small dedicated graphic card but I don't think she would need one to run those small games(Maybe in a near future since everything evolve so fast). Few tips for laptop shopping: Stay away from ACER and AMD Processor because my dad that is a big laptop lover bought 6 laptop in the past 6 years and from that I and him know that AMD processors are usually going too warm. So far the best one he got is an ASUS with an Intel processor. I don't remember him having a Samsung because those are usually a bit more expensive.

I'm with KooZ, go for an Intel CPU. Their architecture is more efficient than AMD's, which means longer battery life and less heat (no matter what your mom gets, the last few laptop generations tend to get frighteningly hot). Something with an i3 or an i5 will have plenty of horsepower for what she wants to do, without breaking the bank. My wife is on her 5th Toshiba. The first one still works fine, I'm just a computer snob and I keep upgrading her. HP keeps a few decent models in the lower price brackets as well. This is the perfect time of year to buy a laptop, with all the Black Friday and holiday deals going on. I buy 4-5 laptops during this season every year. Protip: don't wait in line on Black Friday - shop online instead.

so sorry about the double link. I think she is going to go with the i5 and I will let her know about ordering online. That won't be a problem neither will standing in black friday lines. People are vicious up here and we are not into being trampled. hehe
