Has anyone had any experience with a healing templar and would like to share what they found worked as far as and armor setup? I was thinking going full cloth but didn't know if that would make me to squishy to live through dungeon trash?

I'm kind of experimenting with this as well except with a Nightblade healer. At the moment I'm not noticing much difference between wearing light or heavy to be honest, but I'm also only level 18 and haven't been in very challenging content yet.

I have a feeling armor choice won't matter too much until higher levels when armor passive percentages have meaning when we're looking at 2% of 200 vs 10% of 5000 (arbitrary for comparison of course).

In PTS I got a healing templar to VR ranks, and used only light armor. It works OK, you are a bit squishy but not that bad. The mana benefits outweight the squishy-ness, IMO.

Thanks for the replies any comments on the 50 health 0/0 magicka/stam builds on this or did you go Magicka > Stamina/Health like I was thinking of doing?

I tried mana only and mana+health (24/25), the later worked better.

I was thinking about doing a 29/20 split (Magicka/Health) but I might switch that to a 20/29 split instead since I'm using all light armor. it's really going to depend on what sort of gearing/buffs set up I can come up with at 50/VR10 until I decide. I am going all light armor though, that's a given.

Just throwing my 2 cents in...If you are going main healer go either full light or 5 light 2 med (2 med is so that your resto skills can crit).  I'd go 16/33 split (Magicka/Health), enchant armor for max magicka, jewelry for magicka regen or reduce potion cd, and magicka regen food.  As a templar you have ZERO ways to regen your magicka (NBs get Siphoning Strikes & Sorcs get Dark Exchange) so finding any way to increase your regen is better than your max IMHO.  Though later on you could try Equilibrium.

Wouldn't a precise weapon also give you the chance to crit?

Hey Alex, my advice on a healing Templar is this. If you want full healing and want to be the most effective possible then go straight cloth for the mana regen, put your points mostly into magicka with some in the health slot for survivability. Also, make sure you put a couple points into flare and at least some other dmg ability if you plan on using your resto staff 24/7. Don't worry about running out of skill points, you will have more than enough to play with. That will make soloing a lot easier than using only your staff for dmg. In my opinion if you want to be the best healer possible, you need the mana regen from cloth. I tried using a plate wearing/sorc/regen staff healer for FG and I was ALWAYS out of mana. So, you want as big a pool as possible.

I'm rolling a templar healer... For armor i'm going five heavy and 2 light most of the time... He's a combat healer (twohanded / resto) so I can switch to offtank if there is another healer. You can enchant your armour to help with mana/magicka. I will also be keeping a light armour set to swap out if any boss fights require it.  That said, it is hard for me to see mana as a problem if you keep channeled focus going. - M.

EDIT: 'As a templar you have ZERO ways to regen your magicka'... I think this is an urban myth that has been floating around for some reason. Channeled focus tooltip says it regens magicka and is instant cast. I think you'll be fine with magicka, as long as you do not crazy spam 'rushed ceremony'. You need to heal using HoTs... very similar to cappy HoH healing in LOTRO.

i run a healer Templar and I run with 2 light armor the rest in heavy, and well I have no big issues,  that being said I also wear the appropriate enchants and use the right  food....  like I've said in other post, healing in this game is all about being patient,  if you over cast or cast to early you will be out of magika quick....  healing crits happen more often when your ally has low health, so save those big heals for when they are at 25%,  and a lot of your passives offer better healing when they are lower health.....  as for magika regen, some of your skills when morph offer magika regen use them, they help  ( off the top of my head I can only think of resto staff first skill)

so I know a lot of ppl tell you go full cloth,  well I say equip what you want, enchants and food will do a lot for you,  mundus stone some more,  and I think race skill can help a lot....  have fun with it

Most of a build is all about how you want to play. As a Templar healer are you a battle cleric or a robed scholar healing from the back lines?

It makes all the difference in the world and only you know what will be best for you!

Putting points into health helps keep you alive and heavy armor helps too.  You can't do your job without magicka and wearing some light armor helps that. And if you want to swing a blade some medium armor will help with stamina.

But, health, magicka, and stamina can be helped by your race, passives, food & drink, enchantments, potions, and armor too.

So... mix and match to create what is best for you!

My Templar is 5 Heavy/2 Light and can heal group dungeons fairly well.  I had mine up to VR content on the PTS and rarely had mana problems.  I use 2h/Resto and you just need to properly manage your rescources.  As for the  Channeled Focus skill, it is extremely underwhelming.  It really only mitigates the cost of the skill itself, but the skill only affects you and has a tiny area of effect.  Ring of Preservation is a vastly better replacement.  Just my two cents.  Oh, and the 10% magicka return on resto staff full heavy attack is your friend.  If that ever goes away, I may end up a DPS templar.

I'm trying the magicka/health split too.  I've split my armor between heavy for protection and light for mana buffs. There are a couple of heavy armor buffs that kick your armor up by over 200 points.

Absolutely go with the mix you prefer - I'm not saying you can't heal with some Heavy pieces in there but you'll be "better" at healing with pure Light Armour.  On the flip side if you find yourself getting beat down too much in melee some Heavy Armour will help out.

Also of note, I just noticed someone suggested 2 medium armour so your resto staff skills can crit and wanted to clarify that the only resto staff ability capable of critting right now is Regen (and it's morphs) and that crits based on your Spell Crit.  The other Abilities don't crit at all and Weapon Crit from medium armour won't help you at all (not even on your Resto Staff light attacks which also use Spell Crit).

For attributes I am currently rocking 14 Magicka 35 Health but I'll see where my gear ends up at and respec accordingly if I need to.

As I said before Seducer and Magnus crafted sets are awesome, I also used 3 piece Warlock set from when I got it (level 20ish?) all the way until 50 because quite frankly, no other items hold a candle to getting 1/3 of your Magicka back every minute.  Ideally you'll have it on neck/ring/ring.  Once you get to 50/VR1 you can replace that level 20 stuff with VR1 Warlock stuff that you find/purchase.
