I have cancelled my ESO subscription. The fun/price ratio was not, unfortunately, working for me at this time.

Maybe I will see some of you in GW2, if I resume that.

If not, I look forward to gaming w/ you good folks in another Chapter.

Happy hunting!

No worries, you're not in the minority.  After the guild-roster purge and merge, I noticed that only 377 have accepted a re-invite for the Gaiscioch activity room, as of early AM today.  While its hard to tell if some are still playing and just decided to go their own way, it can be safely assumed that most have stopped paying and playing.

I wouldn't say most are gone, more like half stopped playing.

Judging from the number subscribed to ESO chapter, it was something like 1400 IIRC, now the number is 700 ish.

I don't have a lot of time to play but still enjoy playing so far.

Me personally, I am enjoying the game tremendously. I quest for my levels, so it is not as fast as some, but that is how I like it. I'm almost VR7 and have come across a  few bugs, but it certainly hasn't stopped me having the same amount of fun as day 1. I just wish I had more time to play the game between life and work. The family is such a wonderful community. I am very happy with it all.

With respect to bugs, I am actually pretty impressed at how stable things are these days. In the first month I was still encountering crashes of the Mac client, and bugged quests, but the problems these days are more refined -- like tuning the experience between stamina and magic builds. I'm definitely interested in seeing where things go from here, so I'll be sticking around.

I haven't been playing as much.  I do really like the fighting here - using mobility, like GW2.  The graphics are awesome!  I really like the armor appearance and enjoy the quests.

But I am "crispy" trying to manage the inventory.  I wish Zenimax would listen to these inventory complaints.  The extra jostling around of stuff between alts is time consuming and just not the way I like to spend my online time.   6 of my questing buddies left the game - all disliked the inventory system.  And the lack of "desirable" gear.  (Sorry, I do miss an auction house - I think most are used to a little more control as to what gear they acquire)  At least 2-3 of my friends also left because of the mob boss difficulty.  They would eventually be able to take them down; but the frustration meter shot up and they walked around in totally broken armor until another drop came their way.  I can't even imagine how a new gamer would manage.  (They could have "levels" of difficulty maybe?)

I don't feel their "crafting" (I call it their deconstructing system) encourages good circulation of desirable gear.  Most are hoarding their upgrade mats for their own armor/weapon sets.

I think most could've had more patience with the bugs if they didn't feel so "overworked" or "deprived" in other areas.

I will continue to have a presence in ESO for a few months and hope that Zenimax will listen to their customers.  When I purchased ESO, my first thought was "Yay!  Gaiscioch will be there!!" and my second thought was ESO had such a good reputation - it could be the next game of the decade!"

I sure hope there will be some changes and our guild mates will return.

The thing that I've enjoyed most about ESO has been the opportunity to meet so many of our longtime members from earlier chapters and Saighdear games. This is such an awesome family to be a part of, regardless of the game, and it's been neat to meet some of the folks who helped it grow.

In terms of ESO, I'm struggling with those recurring server-side authentication issues that can only be resolved by server maintenance. 17 days (non-consecutive) lost from a 60 day game time card (on day 33) is starting to wear a bit thin, and I may sub in and out on this game until stability improves. I'm still in GW2, so I can get my family fix there and avoid the horrors of Gaiscioch cold turkey withdrawal. I have to relocate to another city for work in a couple of months so the timing's not bad for a short ESO hiatus. We'll see how things go.

Yeah Kalizaar, I think when your significant other plays the game along side you it makes all the difference. My wife really enjoyed Guildwars 2, but as she progressed... slowly, she became very disenchanted with GW2 story telling abilities or major lack there of. After about level 45-50 when treehearn(spelling is wrong on him) takes over your personal story you could tell she just didn't enjoy it as much. She continued to play because she enjoyed exploring, but once she got to Orr again she was discouraged. So we switched to ESO when it came out. She thought it was pretty and enjoyed the voiced dialog and better narrative.

It quickly became apparent though that the game was tougher and she'd only play when I was on because I could pick up the skill slack. I think what really turned her off was just he lack of control over gear choices. She really wants a transmute system and a dye system. GW2 spoiled us both with that really and I dont think i can accept less or much less from an mmo now.

All that to say that for the same reason as you, I havent been enjoying ESO because my wife stopped playing for the most part. We've been playing Diablo 3s expansion. At least till she finishes the main story then I think were going to try GW2 once the new zones and content goes live.

I still hop on ESO about once a week, but I find myself not being motivated to dedicate as much time as that game requires. Being able to get on a game for an hour or two and really feel you made progress is important to both my wife and I in a game and I just feel I don't go far in ESO unless I play for hours at a time.

Sorry to hear that the game did not meet your expectations. Any new game of this magnitude is bound to experience "growing pains", after all WoW took over a year to settle down, and even at this point in time falls below ESO in my opinion.  I think it is unfortunate that so many guildmates have given up on the game so early but I certainly respect your opinions and decisions to leave the game.

One of the concepts of our guild is to play when you want and how you want, so I wish you all the best. I hope you all continue to participate in guild functions such as the Gaiscioch Magazine to keep up with our guild. Perhaps we will see you in GW2 or back in ESO at a later date.

WoW was almost shut down around its 6 month mark, I don't think that many know that or were even aware of it at the time.  Warhammer was almost shutdown at its 4 month mark, too.  EA was about to file for bankruptcy and was hacking away at whatever they could.  Age of Conan almost shut down ~2 months in, but Funcom decided to re-work and re-launch.  Final Fantasy 14... redone after a year.  My god, the list is actually pretty huge, because memories of similar cases keep pouring into my head as I type.

Unfortunately, the list of those games that did survive and managed to make a strong comeback, is very small.  The market back when WoW almost tanked was a lot different than today's oversaturated market.  The ratio of failing games is a lot higher due to competition.  Modern MMO developers just can't take that gamble with their games, anymore.  A single player flop is a lot different from a MMO flop, because a MMO failure costs many millions more in losses.

I remember reading a producer blog, not too long ago and I forget who it was, where they mentioned that in a subscription based game, a 70% attrition of subscribers after the 3 month mark is not only expected, its acceptable.

That floored me.

Of course there's more to their long ranged plan than that, but still... that they expect and accept that kind of player attrition is ... just unimaginable to me.  It reminds me of a blog from the producer of Horizon, where he stated that the basic MMO design model was ensuring that a game is just barely stable enough at release (or something to that effect, its been many years since I read it) and has just enough content to last the average player for 30 days.  Then the focus for post-release should be spent on fixing release bugs and adding new content as the average player progresses to where it should be.

Well, we all know what happened to Horizons.

I'm enjoying it still and I'm looking forward to expansion.

As much of a PvE player as I tend to be, I do love good realm vs. realm pvp and it has provided that effectively.

I do love the sieges, whether I'm attacking or defending.  And those battles when all 3 realms are there are quite perfect.

The game still seems different to me in terms of how the character construction is.  The class skills matter, but the variation due to weapons and skill lines within the classes offer choices.  It's refreshing to see that you don't have to have "this build" in order to have fun in the game.

Looking forward to more.

There was so much demand when Wow launched that Blizzard started with 40 servers and had to add 43 more servers less than a week after it launched. And I believe they added 20 or so less than a month later. They stopped selling boxes for a month or two or three so the capacity could catch up with demand. There is no way in the world WoW was almost shut down. There was an unbelievable buzz and demand for the game, much more than anyone believed possible.

the inconsistent storytelling at higher levels, the lack of cosmetic choice and housing have me leaning toward canceling my sub for the time being. From the start we should have been able to interact with armor / items we find around and we should have had housing. These are features that are tied with ES games.

The terrible way they vet levels were implemented and the inconsistent story telling after coldharbour.. I don't know. I'm probably not too far behind you guys.  My gaming partner has already canceled her sub. If I do then it might be a temporary thing though.. if / when they implement the features that will make the game complete then then i would consider coming back.

everything pre-coldharbour was an epic adventure though and I do love dungeon delving :)

Like Garyc, I wanted to play but couldn't. I've  lost 18 days out of 34 on a 60 day gametime card to authentication server lockouts, and it's still not fixed. I can't pay not to play, money is too tight for that right now.

We're a huge guild, so the reasons for changes in activity are many and varied. All of them (reasons for staying as well as reasons for leaving) are valid. The really nice part is that they all share one key feature: NONE of the departures are due to our guild family. I love that even the departing players are giving a "forwarding address" (eg. GW2) and some are indicating a possible return in the future.  As Kaytlin said (and Morigana in another thread), population fluctuates in every MMO, particularly after launch, and it's to be expected.

Our family is about people first and games second. It's fine to be a little sad as you watch players leaving a game, and those of us leaving understand that, but we're leaving a game, not this family. Our departure shouldn't be so distressing to players who are remaining that they can't enjoy their time ingame, any more than their continuing to play should be devastating to those of us who leave. (This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, just something I was mulling over from another thread).

TL:DR:  It's not you, it's ESO/RL/or a thousand other "not you and not Gaiscioch-related" reasons.  <3

As far as what Sekk stated about WOW - they had major issues and almost decided to close it down so they could fix them.  There was insane lag in all the major cities to the point you stutter stepped across the entire area - sometimes stalled in place for 15-20 secs and then the entire zone  would crash and the server would go off line.  They closed the servers down daily to do repairs.  They finally instituted log in queues and I quit the game for over 6 months when I hit the 4 hour mark to wait for log in and my server didn't have the longest queue times.  It was horrendous.

They did indeed add more servers and recommended that you start characters on the new servers if you wanted to play - establishing guilds, friends, companions and the like - not many wanted to do that.  They added the servers since their servers couldn't handle the number of players they thought they predicted they could.   I did return to WOW after about a year and played it for several years after that - but they had major difficulties in the beginning.

As far as a 70% attrition rate - yes, that is about standard.   Many people will only buy the game and play it for the first month which is free.   They play it just like any other RPG and don't even attempt to settle into the community.  Then there will be those that just don't like it.  If they sell 7 million copies they will be perfectly happy with around a 2 million player base that stays.  It is just the facts of life.  If I remember correctly - EVE survives with about 250,000 loyal fans.

Again - not every game is for every one.  If you enjoy it - then play and be happy the family is here with you.  I am!  Safe Journ!

That's how I remember it too Chuck.  There is no way that they were going to tank at the three month mark, the older MMO generation may have thought it was going to tank, but for those of us that were new to MMORPGs, combining the Warcraft Setting with an MMO was mind-blowing.

They need to add more of the things that make MMO`s  more of a community , guild tags , better grouping, less phasing,  being able to solo is nice for those that have limited time play or just like to solo now and then .

but having the entire game basicly play like a single player RPG , bad grouping mechanics, terrible interaction  between players with their stand next to someone and press F and cycle to pick option  whisper, trade, etc lol .

Game is basicly just a single player game with tacked on Co-op elments ,  mostly a aoe fest aswell .

it doesn`t have the feel of a MMO and don`t see how they can since its the design  of the game seems anti community , and that`s what keeps people playing more than shiny new toys .they were trying to give it the feel of a Single player game but  with MMO sprinkled on it , they should have picked one of the two .

looked at Camelot unchained but the devs are saying  mobs give no expo in that game and while i love RvR , i also like to take a break from it now and then,

EQ next is a pay to win cash shop F2P game where you can buy items in game to make stuff easier,  weapons, armor, even buy content lol .

Guess i`ll have to look at Archeage , I perfer a more open world less linear hand holding game myself,  I`d rather they made Tamriel and trhe ESO game world, with no personal story  nothing just make the world make the factions, throw us in it with quest, dolemans, AVA etc and let us create our own Adventure .

Rather than have 3/4 of the game our little I`m the chosen one, special snowflake story while dragging you from point a to point b through the game , and req you complete steps to advance .  thats all great in a Single player game ,

Even SWTOR with it`s personal story , was completly different for each class, this game the personal story , mage guild, fighters guilds quest  are the same regardless of class, race or faction just the locations are different but the same .

Game could have been sooo much more than what they released .  I`m in game till the 8th then gona let my sub go ,  i`ll check back in a few months and see what`s changed ,

My only gripe is the amount of time their incremental fixes are taking. I understand there is a lot to fix, but by not fixing an entire stat build, its like only giving you 1/3 of the game. I know there is a lot to fix, but when there is this much broken, for this long... You almost have to wonder if the incremental fixes aren't being done because there are serious core system issues they have to fix at the same time. That is my guess on the long delay for consoles..

Based on what they're adding with these patches, I'm thinking that the people that work on those systems are busy working on the console ports.  Some of this stuff is like "Really?  That's what you decided to work on?" but if the devs they have are not the right group of devs, then they can't fix what they need to fix.

I don't think those console boxes are going to sell like they're hoping.  Not at this point: that ship came, sat, waited and is leaving the harbor.  I'd backburner the ports until next summer, get a solid game back under their feet and recover as much public interest as they can.  Squenix managed to pull off a successful relaunch and recovery with FFXIV v.2, but they had to do a major overhaul of the game, over a several years.  But at least they proved that it can be done, without going F2P.

I cancelled my account due to the issues they couldn't fix, spammers and bots. I reports in 2 months 176 separate spammer and bots. The last straw for me was after taking a weekend off I log in and my mail has 20+ spam emails and the public dungeon I went in had several bots sitting on the last boss. I couldn't even hit the poor thing. it died within micro seconds repeatedly.

So I'm floating in the mist of games at this point Rutter less.. as it were

If you cancelled because of spammers and bots then you might be happy to know that they are rarely seen these days.  The last couple of weeks I went through every quest & dungeon in Aldmeri Dominion and the first 3 zones of Ebonhart and I saw 4 bots.  The boss camping in pub dungeons is non existent these days.  I used to get 4-5 spam emails a day and I haven't received any in the last 3 weeks.

Ehh... I think the game needs time, a lot of it... Ashen65 just sent me a link to this video online... and I feel exactly like this guys does about ESO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmO9kl141XY

It needs a year or so more development and it will be ready to play. I like the game but I think I am going to let it cook a little longer myself. Once this month is up I am going to take a break for a few months and see how it ends up.

Yeah, ZOS hasn't handled things very well and I have a lot of the same issues voiced here. I enjoy the game but it's just not ready. I just don't see keeping my sub much longer, especially with how much I'm loving Wildstar. I really wish that had filled whatever requirements the leadership had for Chapter 5. I like it so much more than ESO it's kind of sad.

If there wasn't a major media corporation behind this game, then I'd feel comfortable with saying that it will improve with time.  I'm definitely not trying to slam the ZOS developers, its not their fault, they're as much victims of corporate shareholder politics as the players are, maybe even more since their jobs are at stake.  They support their families by working with this game, while we just play it for entertainment.

I'm very anti-corporate, which why I say a lot of what I say.  The actual decision makers really do not care about players having fun, they just care about spreadsheets showing money being made and spent.  Its all about the stocks and the stocks are all about the profit.  Working at Microsoft really opened my eyes to how a modern corporate environment can ruin great ideas and good intentions.  Innovation... yea.  >_>

Unfortunately, you just can't get away from it.  Corporate influence has infected just about every aspect of our lives, especially our leisure and entertainment interests.  Its ironic, because those interests are where we go to relax and get away from the very same things that actually control them.

Anyway, that's my vent.  I just don't like corporate decisions controlling game development.  Profit > Fun and players had better be grateful that they can play.  >_>

My ESO sub is up in a week or so. I won't rehash my critique of ESO as anyone who is interested can check my previous posts. Now I'm split between GW2 and wildstar. GW2 was a bit of a shock in terms of how quiet the battlegrounds have become, but at the end of the day our GSCH 10-man group in T6 can take more objectives than a 50-man group in T1 so it is still fun.

It is amazing how smooth wildstar is in comparison to ESO. It takes about 2 seconds to get to the character select screen and 3 seconds to load into the game once you have selected a character. The game has yet to crash on me, and I have not noticed a single bug although there is the occasional warning in zone chat. I am liking WS about as much as I liked rift. It probably helps that I was a huge Ratchet & Clank fan and WS is practically an R&C based MMO.

Yeah when my sub ended I went wildstar. It just was the most polished game out there that wasn't wow. I'll look into ESO in a few months once they decide what they are going to do. If it goes F2P then I might be back sooner.

I'm canceled.  I think I need much more of a sandbox and less theme park.  Even in Rift, I had zone events, invasions, different rifts, etc to keep me from trudging through theme park content.  Off to Rift and DAOC until EQ Next and Camelot Unchained.

EQ next said that it will be free to play , but will have a cash store , where you can buy weapons, armor, items etc  to make ya gaming easier even content  and access to certain areas ,  basicly Pay 2 win

Camelot unchained  said that mobs in game will give no exp so you only get exp from killing other players , which is ok ,  but if that`s the case  you can`t take a break from pvp  now and then and still lvl ya toon .

James, might check out that Day-z game, I will be playing it some when it comes out. It looks like a lot of fun. Basically it is a Arma version of Mine-z. I won't be leaving this game soon but if you like sandboxes, I can't think of a game more sandbox than Day-z.

Bottom line on this thread is that it is just way too depressing.  I repeat, I am sorry the game did not meet your expectations, but why must we continue to try and bring down other players who are having a good time with the game and it's many faults.  If you don't like the game then go.  It is not necessary to justify your reason for leaving.  Everyone respects each others opinion here and moving to another game happens for many reasons.  I would encourage those that are leaving to have what ever private conversations you feel you must have, however  it does not have a place here in public forums, IMHO.

Hostility is more depressing than sub cancellations. We tried to keep to one thread so you didn't have multiples, and so it would be easier to avoid if you wished to.

Conflicts arise when there is a division of philosophies and then people speak their minds.  Whether it is pro or con.   I can find no good reason to post on a set of forums that you have cancelled your subscription - stating it is to keep certain people informed - the inactivity in the game and leaving the guild in that specific game will do just that.  If you posted in the General Family Forums that you are still around but only playing "X" game or not playing any game at this moment would be far more effective and not cause any conflicts.

To post that you are taking a hiatus is one thing - but to keep threads going about why "you" hate the game or why it didn't live up to "your" expectations will draw the ire of those that do love the game and are having a good time playing it especially when you post in the forum section for people who are playing that game..  It is only natural.  We all attempt to defend that which we love - or even just really like.   Being negative on any forum is not really a good thing - it is exactly the reason so many people do not visit public forums.  It is the reason they come here.  To have a safe place to discuss a game without the negativity creeping into it.

This is the ESO forums where  Family members come to discuss the game they love - it is a tight rope we must walk.  But no -  to tell someone else to just avoid the topic just doesn't cut it since they will attempt to defend the game.  It has to stop somewhere - sometime.
