Is this really an exercise that normal computer users can do without ending up in the emergency room ... Not going to happen here.

I can do that and I have a disability! LOL! Then again I can stand and bend over putting nearly my entire hand on the floor besides toe touching. I stretch a lot due to MS making some of my muscles think they should be tight for no reason.
Good stretches to do and better if you get the butt out of the chair - gotta kill the chair butt syndrome, too - are:
Reach high above your head then put you right hand down behind your head as far as you can while holding onto the elbow. Repeat for with the left hand. Then clasp hands behind your back and try to stretch them lower.
Shoulder rolls front and back. I would suggest making sure your posture is right first because most of us slouch. To check your posture slowly roll shoulders back letting shoulder blades settle lower, engage your mid section just enough to be relaxed but stabilized upright. It actually feels better when you hit the right spot because the arms aren't pulling on your shoulders wrong.
Also slowly look left and right a few times, then tilt head to shoulder and roll down and back up to the other shoulder repeating a few times.
Hands and wrist stretches - wrist rolls go one way several times and then the other way. Hold hands out in front - stretch them out as flat as they go and then pull into fist holding each position for a few seconds. Another one is to stretch your arm out straight in front and then hold you hand on the palm to gently push it up as far as it goes and then gently push on the back of the hand to as far is it goes down. Then shake them out.
We had to do these twice a day at one of the places I worked. We also placed hands on lower back and bent back slowly as far as we could go and marched in place. It was like a mini 5 or so minute stretch session doing all of these. They do help. =)
After a car accident, an overzealous nurse pulled L4 & 5 from each other in a decompression machine, so I couldn't do it even if I tried.
Ouch! - I'm hiding under my desk after this post... does that count as exercise?
I'm picturing the hundreds of people reading this post and attempting it. I can proudly say I can do this without discomfort!
well I have to say there is a very big flaw in this exercise, cause when I tried it all I got out of it was tjgbyjtfvtgbjbyj... I don't see how I can go that far down at my computer :)
So apparently I lack the equipment to do that one. The guy in the picture has a much nicer chair than me. Mine is a 3-and-a-half legged affair that our landlord dumped in our apartment one day when he was too lazy to take it down to the dumpster. Leaning forward in my chair is swiftly followed by the application of carpet to face.
If I try this, my chair then skitters backwards and my face lands on the keyboard, and my chin hits the edge os the desk. Little indentations from the keys may last a while. Maybe I should try it on carpet rather than on wood flooring, or just take the chair casters off first?
I have developed opposable toes allowing me to pick pens up off the floor without having to resort to this.
This is just totally impossible while sitting in a RECLINER - which is how I game. Additionally, I can't think of one good reason that I would want to sniff my own butt and even though I am old I can still tell - without the sniff test - when my Depends needs changing.
ohh - wait - this is about an exercise.... n e v e r m i n d :)
Catch Morigana
I'm with Morigana on this one. It's not so much that I can't do this, it's more that I really don't want my nose to be anywhere near the seat of my gaming chair. I'm not a grub by any means, but there are some risks in life that just aren't worth taking. I'll just stretch my hamstrings after a morning walk instead.
WTT 3-and-a-half-legged busted chair for training in Smitty's opposable toes pen retrieval technique.
Morigana,
The best part is as you get older, trying this may make your depends need changing lol.
