I preordered so I should have the free 1 month but it says I have to set up a subscription plan but I would only like to use this month's free gametime and go from there. Thanks

You have to set up a subscription to get the benefit of the 1 month free.
They have a payment verification system in place like with rift. They will try to bill your account then will credit it. You'll see the payment as pending but it won't clear. Usually goes away a day after. I didn't even notice mine.
If your not getting a subscription option make sure to enter in all of the codes starting with the one on the backside of the manual. Some boxes have 3 different codes. Many miss the one on the manual.
