Some of them send messages so large that their name is not visible, so you cannot ignore it.
A tip for seeing their name: increase the size of the chat window and reduce the font size (under the Esc menu: Settings/Social).

I of cause use it and I see random spam when they change account, but it is ignored right away, unless the message has changed. In that case I just update the filter to catch the new message.
But I don't see the spam 95% of the time and mostly only know about it because other people complain about it.
Meh, I just set my chat window to not display anything but Guild chat. Most of what is discussed in zone is inane. And the gold spammers use Yell. So you can turn that off as well and keep everything else.
Im not so ready to add more lines of code to my game, when there is an already included filter in it.
I always have hopes that gold spammers won't happen in game. Call me a dreamer. Thanks for the tip though on changing box size. I've had a few spammers I could never quite get the name to ignore.
