The little things in ESO

I found ESO: It's the Little Things at MMORPG.com and was glad to read about some of the little features that I wasn't aware of in ESO.

The main points made are:

  • There are treasure maps you can find with the map marking a spot in the world. Find that spot and dig to find a chest that you can lockpick for some nice loot.
  • Conversations with NPCs can result in them marking a location such as a dungeon on your map.
  • Wandering off the "guided tour" can result in you finding random quests or unknown dungeons (with an end boss, dungeon specific loot, and possibly a skyshard)
  • Unique hidden crafting tables to produce parts of an item set (the author found a hidden cavern with crafting stations that let him craft items in the Night's Silence set)
  • Visual differences in crafting better quality pieces of gear of the same type (ex: visual differences between a level 1 and level 4 crafted chest piece of the same style)
  • Visual differences added by using an improvement on a piece of gear (ex: metallic brass trim appeared on his chest piece after using hemming to improve it)

I'll admit I haven't spent much time in the Elder Scrolls games (though I did own and pretty thoroughly play the Elder Scrolls: Arena way back when), so some of these things may be considered "normal" for an Elder Scrolls game.

For me, though, they're somewhat new and refreshing. I'm becoming more eager to get into the game and explore the world.

I've gotten the same feel from other major game site reviews that hit last Friday (about the lack of incentive to explore) and this review was a nice breath of fresh air.
