Nice find - and nice interview.
Maybe I get to name my horse - sweet. There were quite a few little gems in the interview. I like that she said Archery is a little more strategic - I am very fond of strategy -I enjoy thinking about what I do and how to do it in lieu of just button hitting.
Thanks again.
Sorry, I can't talk, I have to log in to ESO and feed my horses...
..... really?
As long as I do not have to clean-out the stables.
There was a reason given for feeding the horse and it was only like once a day... not something to sweat or make honey-boo-boo faces over.
"you have to feed the horse every day. Depending on what you feed the horse, the horse will either get faster or it will be able to carry more inventory, you will get more inventory space, because you have a pack horse now … or you will be able to have a combat warhorse that would be resistant to caltrops, and getting knocked off your horse and things like that."
It is actually a gameplay strategy depending on if you just want to fast travel, do PvE and increase your inventory space for crafting or other loot drops, or be in AvA and have a better combat mount.
Feeding a horse once a day is going to bother you when there are strategy options in play.... really?
It bothers me if the mechanic makes me feel like I need to log in once a day to do something that's not interesting gameplay. It bothers me if they implement systems that aren't terribly fun. And no, I don't think adding a feature where you need to virtually feed a horse is fun or is a worthwhile feature. There's probably 100 ways they could implement different horse types without this. Tell me, how is this different from buying different types of horses? What does the game gain from making me spend a little time every day clicking a feed button? It feels like a timesink that has no real purpose. I think it adds nothing, so to me, it seems they could have made better use of the time they spent implementing that system on something that is more core to gameplay.
I understand that it's only once a day. But many of the mechanics discussed here remind me of something Sid Meier said when he was discussing game design (he's the guy behind the Civilization series and a bunch of other games, if the name dosen't ring a bell). Paraphrasing, he said that when implementing game systems, if it came down to reality vs. fun, they would rather make the game system more fun than more real. It just feels to me that the ESO team is enraptured with reality.
Now granted, the implementation of this may be all rainbows and puppies, and it may be awesome. But I'm skeptical.
Charlatin, wait till you get your hands on it before you pass judgement. Youll see its not as bad as your imagining.
What Fog said.
I guess I'm just not one to complain about something I know nothing about atm. There isn't any word on you really needing to log in everyday to feed your horse. If it was like EQ when you had to "feed" yourself - then if you didn't log in for a week it didn't make a difference the buff just wore off - With feeding the horse it might wear off after 24 hours or it might be 24 hours of play time - or it might wear off and it doesn't do anything until you next log in and then you have to feed your horse again. There is no mentioning of "requiring" you to log in everyday to feed the horse and I just really doubt a game would do that - even Xbox One changed their tune on this.
It sounds better to me than having 3 horses - which then cost me a lot of gold. I would prefer having one horse that can do three things based on "feed" vs. 3 different horses. But that is my opinion.
I'm reacting to what I read, since that's my only source of information about the game. If critical discussion about features is classified as "complaining about something I know nothing about" then I guess I'll bow out of any future conversations.
Charlatan, i'm not saying don't comment, I'm just saying to wait until you see more about it before you rule it out. Thats all.
My hope is they have some way to pay for a worker to feed and care for your horse. There is no way I can log in everyday with as much traveling as I do. And as I know I'm not the minority, I trust they will accommodate for that.
I know for sure there is nothing in ESO that will force people to log in every day. We have that confirmed.
The most likely scenario: Horses will be Horses with or without food. By feeding them they will gain buffs for a 24 hour period. After 24 hours you can choose another buff for that horse. There's not a whole lot on how this mechanic works but they have been very avid against anything that requires people to "water their crops" or else.
Excellent. I didn't think they would force a mechanic such as that.
