"captures that same sort of spirit of exploration and adventure" Every time I see someone make a statement like this - I get all giddy inside. I just love to explore worlds and haven't truly found a world I have just loved to wonder through since SWG. From the screen shots and videos I have seen this looks like the type of world I can crawl around in or sit on a hilltop and gaze off into the distance and watch the sunset. At least I hope it is... I really do. Thanks for posting! Safe journ...
Out of curiosity, you don't have to play in first person do you? That would be very painful in an MMO.
There was chat under one of the other videos about being able to use both 1st & 3rd person views. Apparently they are making 1st person view more like an FPS with the hands in the picture for those that like it. In the chat under the video they were saying that no one will use it with 3rd person available. But I can see people using it to go through dungeons as an emersion factor - but in the PvP I doubt anyone will use it.
If you look through their videos and read the chat you can see people discussing it. I'm assuming there is both just like all MMO's and I thought I heard or read about it - but it might just be my memory of the chat under the videos.
Edit:
OK - went through several videos and a couple of podcasts (gawd awful podcasts - OMG - just terrible and I regret they get to count me as a +1 view) but it seems that it was mainly 3rd person originally and the ESO team added 1st person since some ES fans were begging for it and want to do the PvE and dungeons in 1st person to have that ES feel to the game. A reviewer for Ten Ton Hammer even commented in a late May article that "this review is the first time we get to see the 1st person view".
So I feel safe to say 3rd person view is there and playing in 1st person isn't required.

I won't use it, but that's not because I don't like it, its because I get motion sick and headaches (yea, the bad type) from 1st person games if I play for more than an hour-ish. So I'm glad they're doing 3rd person, because if it was only 1st person like the RPG titles, then it would have to be a deal breaker for me.
Different reason for me Sek - I actually get a little claustrophobic - and 1st person seems to bring a feeling of actual dread upon me. First person view only games usually don't last long with me either.
It is also why I'm not fond of dungeon crawls - can't stand the walls for very long.

heheheh I'm a bit freakishly panicky about underwater zones in Everquest... I have a really weird fear of drowning that I never knew I had until I played Everquest and experienced my first character death by drowning. I'm not kidding, for any of the zones that required breathing buffs or your character would drown/suffocate, I had mild panic attacks. o.O GW2 doesn't affect me that much because our characters can't "drown".
