Hello Gaiscioch! I am an avid Fantasy, sometimes sci-fi reader.  Here is a simple list for you to peruse of books I personally have enjoyed and have stuck with me over the years.  Some of these have romance in them, some of them do not, some are dark and some are hopeful. My hope is that there will be something for everyone.

For those with a Kindle Unlimted Account/still free to read with a Kindle Unlimited Account:

  • The Saltwater Heir (The Blood and Water Saga, book 1) by Cassidy Clarke
  • The Phoenix Priest (The Blood and Water Saga, book 2) by Cassicy Clarke
  • The Heresy Within: The Ties that Bind book 1 (First Earth Saga) by Rob J. Hayes (a bit dark, with many stand-alone yet connected books in the series.)
  • Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson
  • An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson - A young artist navigating the dangerous twists and turns of the Fae, bargains and careful words with romance too
  • King of Scars (King of Scars Duology Book 1) by Leigh Bardugo
  • We Hunt the Flame (Sands of Arawiya Book 1), by Hafsah Faizal
  • Smoke and Stone (City of Sacrifics Book 1) by Michael R. Fletcher - This is a Grim dark fantasy, with dark themes. Skip if not your cuppa tea.
  • Aching God (Iconoclasts book 1) by Mike Shel - A Dark, D&Desque book about old, corrupted gods and their twisted dungeons and ruins featuring themes of dealing with PTSD. Skip if not your cuppa tea.

Hi Jahnya!

Thanks for sharing this list - I too am a fantasy novel fanatic. Have you by any chance read the Inheritance Series by Christopher Paolini? They're so fun. He also has a SciFi series called "The Fractalverse" but I have not jumped into these yet. Just thought I'd share a favorite with a fellow avid reader as well!

Cheers!

One that I would mention is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. That is a really great story arc over 8 or nine books. I loved it.

Hey Sindarin! I did try to get into Eragorn, but it just wasn't the butter to my toast, the jam to my peanut butter if you will. Hey HousecarlKarl! Sword of the Truth's first few books were really great! I felt like things got a little lost though as books kept coming out and time went on. Definitely not bad, either!

I did forget to mention the Malazan Book of the Fallen series as a popular fantasy series, too, but only because it can be a hard and divisive read. It's one of those, "you either love it or can't stand it," sort of things. In fact, I had started and stopped the first book for several years before finally digging in. It's not an easy read, but it can be a good one.

Does anyone here use GoodReads or TheStoryGraph? I've love to add you on either one, see what everyone's reading! You can find me on good reads here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/294963-hot-pink-mess
