Inniu Tá Mé Ina Muintir

By: Bryen

So I asked Google to translate "Today I became a Muintir" and it gave me the title of this post.
However when I asked it translate it back to English it became "Today I am a Man."

So it seems appropriate to post a rite of passage entry as I step up to "Manhood" in the Gaiscioch.

I've been eyeballing these folks for many years now. When Guild Wars 2 was coming out it was always a group that was on peoples lips, and once they got a sever dedicated to Rall, I think most everyone knew who they were. I'm pretty sure intimidation led me away. Gaiscioch was a super guild, and I was not prepared. We joined a number of special interest guilds at the beginning one of which was Hope Remains, that connected us with our first gaming community of friends in GW2. We didn't stay long because our group outgrew that guild fast. We agreed to donate the private guild we made called The Pathwalkers [PATH] for the group to use and that went well for a few months. Eventually there were power struggles and we left [PATH] to those who wanted the control and opened Order of the Grey [OrG].

This was our home for most of GW2 and went through a number of leadership changes. When we set it up, we really were doing it as a place for other players to come in and create the guild they wanted while we helped it flourish. It went through a few evolutions but remained strong until about a year ago, March 2017. When it crashed it went hard. We lost a lot of people to new big name shiny games, but there were so many that no one could agree where to go. Gradually the numbers dwindled and even I lost interest in GW2 because to social component was gone and I really only cared about that. I drifted off to single player games for a long time and developed an Overwatch addiction, though I am quite bad at it.

Eventually Gaiscicoch showed up again on my radar. The draw of the Celtic myths was stronger than in the past because I had just finished up the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids program. The tree resonated because my counselling practice logo was inspired by similar iconography. So, Saturday morning February 3, I sent out my request for membership.

I saw there was an event happening that morning and was very excited to join in. I found the Discord server and logged int to particpate. I saw a GSCH member on a map they were starting on and asked for a party invite. They acknowledged they were participating in the event but once it started they ignored my PMs. I mentioned something in Discord but there was no response. Of course objectively there were many reasons that this all could be happening but human defensiveness kicked in and I wondered if I had made a mistake. Could I have been right all along that this was a super guild I was afraid it was.

Foghladha came to the rescue then. Within a few moments I had an invite to the guild and was fully participating. I spent much of that weekend wandering the site, and jumping into events as I could. I met Dee and Bear later than night in a dungeon run that was a blast. I was so excited to find people that were interested in engaging and cooperating to complete tasks instead of speeding through everything as quick as possible. [OrG] was a non-speed run guild and we always cleared everything in our path. These players were fully supportive of that way of playing.

The next big event came on Monday night with Foghladha in WvW. Now back in about 2015 we had a serious WvW infatuation in [OrG] and then many changes happened in game and to our guild and that slowly dwindled. Getting back in with [GSCH] was like coming home. It was the first time that I had enjoyed WvW in years! We had an amazing save to end the night at our Bay and I felt so proud of our little band of 20-some players.

I've found myself pouring through the website since then and really enjoying the history of [GSCH]. Watching the videos from 2013 have helped me make sense of what I was seeing back then and how the guild evolved. I've jumped into the marketplace and have really enjoyed being able to offer things that have been languishing in my account for a long time to those who have need. Suddenly all the crafting skills I had spent months on have felt valuable again. Some time this afternoon the post came across Discord that I was promoted based on the participating system. It was kind of a thrill really.

It appears I have found a home, a family, and a team. I'm really looking forward to being a part of this community. It has already revitalized my favorite game again and that itself is a great gift. As the next few weeks pass I'm eager to share some of the fun things we would do in [OrG] with the [GSCH] community and build the sense of adventure that I feel GW2 does better than any other game.

Thank you Foghlada, Dee, and Bear for helping me find my feet so quickly on my first weekend. I look forward to many memories and proud accomplishments with you all!
