Born For Adversity: "Introductions"

By: Grinos

My name is Grinos. I am a cleric. I am called to faith. The light is my guide. A guide to what, I have yet to learn. The heart of a warrior is in my blood. My pedigree is that of fighters. Yet somehow, as the firstborn of a faithful and valorous mid-ranking soldier, I have yet to find my satisfaction in bloodlust. I can swing a hammer as well as the next person. I prefer the staff in combat. It reminds me, as I perform my duties in the destruction of life, that I am called to be a guide. As a shepherd must use his staff both to defend and to guide, even so must I guide my younger brethren through the turbulent land that has become Telara.

I have two brethren, both of whom received the greater part of our father's skill to slay. Frinio, the elder of my two younger brethren, has chosen the path of the "rogue". Even by my standards as a cleric of the Vigil, I confess he has upheld the profession well with surprising virtue (considering the profession). Primon, the youngest, is young and typically naive with a touch of foolhardy valor. He has followed in my father's footsteps as a warrior, choosing the path of steel. He is less willing to heed my council than Frinio, but is by no means depraved of all virtue. Youth is a rite of passage, and I have every confidence he will mature to rival the fame and glory of our father.

As for me, I devote much of my time to healing the wounded. Others see a wounded enemy and scoff, I see a suffering soul and ache. I was not so naive to neglect the training of my father in warfare, and such skill aids me as I am called to participate in combat more often than I like. I am consoled in using my skills with such deadly efficiency, by remembering that I am protecting those around me. An oft concealed truth of the healer's path is that we see the depth of wounds inflicted upon our allies, and it creates an ironic and far more potent lust for the blood of our enemies.

In the days to come, I trust we will grow closer, as I impart my experiences to you. I am new to the family, but I trust in time, you will look with fondness on the day that you welcomed our family to become a part of yours.
