Historical Chapter 2: Warhammer Online (Return of Reckoning)

1. Greetings!

Welcome to the home of the historical chapter of the Gaiscioch in Return of Reckoning. Warhammer Online held a significant role in the rebirth of our community in 2008. What began with 5 members turned into a titan than spanned 4 full Warhammer Online guilds. At its height the Gaiscioch held more than 800 active members on the Phoenix Throne and later Badlands server.

We led an epic community event series titled Battle for Badlands which pitched weekly Order leaders against Destruction leaders in an all out war.  These battles included hundreds of players each week.

Today, we have been fortunate to find a way to return to Warhammer Online in the form of Return of Reckoning. Our historical chapter acts as a launching ground for new adventures and the ability to introduce people to the classic.

Receiving an Invite (Joining)

There are a few ways one can join the community in game.

1. Find a "Gaiscioch" member and ask for an invite.
2. Join us on Fridays for Friday Night WAR! and ask "Gaiscioch Invite Please" in LFG or Map Chat.
3. Send Foghladha a tell for a "Gaiscioch Invite"

Joining the community

To join the Gaiscioch Community head over to https://warhammer.gaiscioch.com/ and fill out the form on the right hand side. Instructions will be sent to you on how you can register for our website and officially join the community. Alternately you can find this information in game as the Guild MOTD. Website registration is not required however members will remain as Guest rank until they are registered.

The Guild Structure

The Gaiscioch Family is well known for going big. We are like a magnet to like minded players and we typically grow at an alarming rate. Within 2 months of returning to Warhammer Online we crossed 300 characters in our primary guild Gaiscioch. To avoid hitting the hard cap of 500 we preemptively launched Gaiscioch T1 which will be home to our Tier 1 activities. At the end of March we formed the Tuatha Alliance which houses our multiple guilds. This allows us all to communicate with each other in game using the Alliance chat.

Gaiscioch (16+)

The home of our Tier 2-4 players. Players can get an invite in game by typing "/3 Gaiscioch Invite Please".  All players can invite to the guild. 

Gaiscioch T1 (1-15)

The home of our Tier 1 players. Players can get an invite in game by typing "/3 Gaiscioch T1 Invite Please". All players can invite to the guild.

Ranks & Roles

The guild rosters are parsed regularly and members who have claimed their characters will be promoted in game to their appropriate role.

Roster Setup: Member Note

Please take a moment to right click on your characters on the roster and set your member note to your Gaiscioch.com handle. This will allow me to identify you and promote you to the correct rank while we wait for the syncing script.

The Alt Policy

If you'd like to bring your alts in we ask that you please do. We're happy to have all 18 alts if you like. We will however begin rotating characters out of Gaiscioch and Gaiscioch T1 when we hit 490 characters based on when they were last played.

Recruitment:

While we ask that you do not spam chat channels asking people to join our community we do encourage you to link our guild in chat using the Recruit tab of the Guild Window then click "Link to Guild" when hosting open events. Messages like "[Gaiscioch] Invites you to join us for T1 RvR in Dwarflands." are acceptable. We do not want to push our community on others, but we do want to ensure our community is seen. We are quickly becoming one of the largest communities in RoR and it wont be long before we wont even have to say things without people wanting to join.

By the time we reach 450 characters in roster we hope to have Gaiscioch T1 ready for service and we'll move all our T1 characters there. This will free up more room in the primary room for T4.

With our Dual Guild Structure we use /as or Alliance Chat as our guild chat. Please be sure that when you wish to talk to guild you use /as instead of /gu. This will include both guilds that make up the Gaiscioch Family and players who are playing their Tier 1 alts can participate in the discussion. 

Guild & Voice Communication

The Gaiscioch Family is a world wide social gaming community which provides a family friendly environment for players of all ages to enjoy the games we play. To respect our family's' little eyes and ears we ask that all members keep public discussion in guild channels, alliance channels, public chat channels, and in voice services PG at all times. We have however made special adults only, mature, or pub channels for respectful adult conversation available in our voice chat. Be respectful and don't teach our little Gaiscioch Jr's a new vocabulary.

Voice Communication: 
Discord Cloud Based Voice Solution

Discord is a new cloud based voice communication application available now on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Linux currently in testing. Discord also allows for direct join and listen through web browsers to provide us for a no-download required voice communication platform for leading public community events. so far trying to download this thing has been a disaster to point I shut down the computer to disrupt the confusion.  How big is the files supposed to be for chapter2.zip?  It was giving me a message it could not confirm things, etc and was actually naming it unconfirmed.... on my computer.  Somedays I wish computer stuff would just be bloody easy and not do stupid stuff.

Officially give up on this download after several more attempts.

It's about 10GB. If you think downloading from Google Drive is rough you should try their official method. It should be a simple download and unzip. THen launch the game from the Launcher inside (Not the WAR Launcher, the other one)

I set up an account and downloaded the game but can't launch it.  I keep getting "Critical Error - Authentication failed - - application will now terminate".  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Just downloaded, unzipped, created an account and logged-in. Incredible, I am going to have to take a much closer look at the forums, but I am thinking it rates an, OMG WOW!

I will see if I can find someone on voice during the week to figure out what is going on.

Make sure you are launching the game from "RoRLauncher.exe" NOT "warpatch.exe" or "WAR.exe" Both of those will try to launch the Mythic Patcher and connect to EA servers. That wont work as their game is offline. the RoRLauncher is the one that talks to the Return to Reckoning Servers.

It's the ROR launcher that's giving me the error message.

Ah, I think it was the system not telling me the size nor telling me if it was still DLing or what.  It acted like it was done when it sure couldn't have been in a few minutes for 10GB.  I'll give it one more shot here while I work on some writing, but if it still gets dorky then I won't be showing up for nostolgia time.  ;)

Hm, same thing happened to me as Bris.  I use Firefox and Google Drive doesn't want to properly report the file size, it's too large.  GD gives several warnings about the file size, too.  But, since I have a beast of a pipe, it was able to download the whole thing quickly and correctly.

Maybe Booie can split the files into a multi-part ZIP file.  4g blocks should be a lot better.  7-Zip can handle it, but WinZip maybe easier.

You can download the multi-part zip from the Return to Reckoning site. My hope was to save you the trouble and get it all in 1.

The torrent worked best for me.  every file w/ an integrity check.  

GOT IT!  What did I do to watch it closely - as soon as the download started I opened up to view all my downloads and watched it tick off the size it had.  For some reason it was probably DLing still, but not making sure I could see it was for sure without doing that.

Anyway, I got in the game and Briseadh, the Swordmaster, has been resurrected.  Now to poke Clan to make his dwarf so we can do bad jokes and storm Bugman's on a whim to save the ale!  ;)  I'm thinking of doing short blast from the past stories now that I think on this one to put in the magazine.  Should go do a post asking people to throw me little tales I can put in. 

 finally got mine to work, i kept getting the missing D3x9_34.dll file but finally fixed it.

 made several toons, even my old Engy altho they are a bit weak endgame they are a blast to play hehe . may play 1 , but saving a couple at lvl 1 for when we start on the 21 jan .

When is the event scheduled?  The social adventure overview page lists it as tonight but the guild calendar lists Devilian as tonight's event.

We wanted to rotate regular spots with currently active slots. So ESO Is first Thursday, WAR is third Thursday. Second and Fourth is whatever is currently getting played by members.

What are the plans for getting members into the guild?  I know it is by character.

For Thursday the 21st I have Briseadh and Arthine made though I think Briseadh may not "chicken" out too fast.  Arthine is higher only to get to know the game better and leave Briseadh ready for Thursday.  Between the two I should be able to definitely T1 it the entire time.  =)

Remember how T1 almost always had the herds in Nordland/Norsca?  Things have NOT changed.  LOL!

I was so excited to see this back again. My boys are now old enough to play and remember sitting on my lap watching many years ago. I'll have to send a message for a guild invite. Who's answering the Mail on that?

Found a super easy download option on Elven's personal cloud, updated to the newest version as of 3/31/16:

Just download the English client, then the extractor.  Extract the five to your program files.  

Then download and install the Direct X 9.0c:

Then download the launcher and pop it in wherever you extracted your Warhammer files to, close to the exe file (Elven explains all of this in his post)

As noted in Elven's post, you may have to right click on the Return to Warhammer folder, select Properties, then uncheck the "Read Only" option and hit Apply so it will run through everything in your Warhammer folder.

Hey Threynos! Great seeing you out there! As you probably notice, we still have that "Gaiscioch" effect on the battlefield lol. Couldn't believe we almost filled up 2 Warbands last night. When we stepped onto the boat it was pretty much just us and a bunch of people complaining about us sitting on the boat. :D.

tried downloading twice and failed twice.

once I thought I had it but when I clicked on the ROR Launcher, nothing happened and the contents of the folder disappeared.  trying a 3rd time.

Is there another download site I could try?  The one listed above by Twilah is no longer active.  Thanks!

I tried to use your download twice but both times (after about 7 hours or so) got the message "download failed".  My connection is not the greatest so that could have been the problem.  When I tried Torrent I got a warning message from Symantec, so then used MegaSync.  Finally got the game installed.
