Playing a Warrior

I have to say I enjoyed playing a warrior. Deciding what weapons was the toughest part. For PvP i would 2 handed hammer is good for all the CC abilities and swap with 2 handed greatsword for some heavy hitting DPS. I did like dual weilding axes as well. There is plenty to still learn for sure.

I enjoyed the Bow more than I thought, lots of AoE.

I'm thinking about trying warrior in the next beta weekend. I found some good videos from the last BWE. These show structured PVP (not my thing really), but they all give a great picture of some of the warrior options. Love the mobility - zoom-zoom!

I'm planning on using this build at launch (or something like it since this build site isn't as uptodate as the gw2 guru one):
Vamp's Anvil Build

I will usually use mace/shield & 2h hammer in smaller group fights and mace/shield & sword/warhorn in larger fights (warhorn tends to be better suited for large fights).

I really love the idea of reflecting attacks back using the mace and shield abilities. Very excited about that. I'll just have to be really good about timing it right. I'm still having a hard time deciding what sigil to go for, but I'm leaning towards sigil of hydromancy (You freeze nearby foes for 3s when you swap to this weapon while in combat. (This effect cannot trigger more than once every 9s)).

I tried a warrior last BWE and I enjoyed it a lot, more than I thought I would. GW2 warriors are very dynamic from what I am used to a warrior class. I was so sure about the engineer but the diversity of warriors is really sweet.

The reflecting attacks is awesome, engineer can also do this.

Very cool build Vamp. I'm seriously considering playing a warrior at release, 'cause so far melee is pretty fun in GW2 and I like the flavor of warrior a bit more than guardian.

@barbossa, I was sure I'd play a Ranger. Then it was and Elementalist (still thinking on this since they are so much "the complete package" for WvW), then a Necro. LOL. Too many cool choices! :)

got warrior to lvl 32 and gotta say their tremendously fun to play.
I used full dps crit build and found the dps a dual axe warrior can dish out is insane.

Example - last beta weekend during the crystal corruption map event in charr land i went with my warrior to see how long i could last. I ended up winning alot of 1v3s and lasted about 20 mins, only to be taken down by a group of 7... 4 of which i took with me.

I will say i do love playing a support warrior more though. mostly because in a group they can (stat wise) give everyone an extra 15% to all stats and healing. and end game wise their shouts can heal.

I really like the mountains of ultilty they gave to all classes.

I am impressed by the diversity of builds here. I only was able to play a warrior to level 20 during the last beta weekend, but I thought I had my build completely mapped out. After watching those videos and playing around with builds more, I am not so sure any more. I was thinking Rifle warrior, but that dual hammer setup looks interesting. This will be fun!

Im going to use the BWE3 to help me decide between first toon being Warrior or Mesmer.

If i go warrior I will try Great sword & Axe/Shield or Rifle & Sword/Horn.

I was thinking thief for a while but didnt like their resource mechanic in the videos i saw seemed very limiting

After spending almost every minute of the beta weekends testing builds and ideas with all characters, my Launch character will be an Asura Warrior with this build in mind

http://www.gw2builds.org/view/677031/berserker#4.0.2.0-3.5.6.7.1-20.30.0.20.0-1.12.3.10.2.4.2

My favorite class from warhammer was the Magus, so I tried to find the closest class to the magus in this game. The closest match was the engineer and the necromancer, but neither of them came close to the same number of AoE abilities that the magus had, and they were not even dots like the magus was.

So instead I tried to find the closest match to my second favorite class from warhammer...the Slayer. Mission Accomplished.

PS: THE ASURA ARE TOO DAMN ADORABLE!

I was running a warrior in WvW last night and I enjoyed having (I think someone also mentioned it in guild chat) viable ranged damage.

I used the long bow and the great sword mainly for the aoe damage in pvp, but the raw versatility with weapons makes them a lot of fun!

I got a ranger up to level 30 this beta weekend and liked it a lot. That being said, I think it will be much easier to gear up a warrior than a ranger due to the fact that copper and iron seem super easy to gather. I will most likely be playing a warrior at launch for that reason and then making a ranger or elementalist for my second character.

I played as a norn warrior for the better part of the weekend, I really liked the wide variety of weapons (and skills). Being able to switch between ranged or melee and single target or AoE damage depending on the situation(while wearing heavy armor)was a blast in both PvE and WvW.

Here's a quick tip I picked up watching some WvW videos before the beta weekend. Leave your inventory window open and move it so only 1 row or column is showing and place it somewhere out of the way, then put the weapons you want quick access to in those spots. Double clicking the weapons in your inventory will switch between two handed weapons or the main hand weapon(not sure about off hands)in your open quickslot. Now you have fast access to nearly all your weapons instead of just two. It came in very handy quite a few times over the course of the weekend.

In pvp land i use this build for my warrior
http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/warrior#4.3.3.0-2.3.4.18.2-10.0.30.20.10-5.11.7.8.6.8.11
I use armor that focus's on adding vitality and toughness. I use this build because i noticed alot of people try to build as much damage as possible while being squishy. with this build and the natural cc you get from mace you become a target thats Very hard to kill and can keep you cc'd while his friendo's beat you up lol.

I haven't played the warrior that much, but this is the build I plan for mine:

http://www.gw2db.com/skills/calc/warrior#14|0|60|259|227|318|246|10|2368|0|0|30|2363|1062|1519|10|1084|0|0|0|0|0|0|20|1545|1109|0|8|15|

Rifle/Longbow. Yep, no melee. Glass cannonish, but not quite.

Warrior attributes are kinda all over the place (for instance, Critical Chance and Damage are in separate traits, so is Condition Duration and Damage), so is my build, and I put some stuff there to make sure I can get out of immobilize/cripple/whatever. It's relying on low vitality to activate Fury, and high Toughness. There are some lifesteal items in the game I can grab, charging up a low health pool could be interesting.

I always play warriors just because I like getting in people's faces and seeing the horror... hehe

I really really considered doing something different this time but after the stress tests and BWE's I realize I'm "condemned to living death" (Dracula quote, paraphrased) playing a warrior. hehe

Anyhow looking forward to trying it out.

See you in battle!

Well if you haven't gone to the spvp lobby I highly recommend it. On your first time through the lobby there's a tutorial but you only have to do it on one toon and you dont have to fight any players.Once you get through that the next part has more info, some vendors to semi max out your character with items and runes and stuff.

They have some pretty good tools in there to help you figure out your build. The target dummies represent high. medium, and light armors. They even one running around to practice following kiters and a couple to practice your dodge roll on. You can get good numbers on your weapon attacks. I found that much of the info online is either bunk or they've changed quite a bit or things that haven't been updated. They even have npc's of the different professions you can fight that have a better ai than you usually get to practice against. Like Oozo said they're no joke, they're better than a bad player. hehe

Anyways I found that area invaluable for picking a profession and will probably examine it again on release. I almost switched from warrior to thief last night. I was surprised how much damage necro minions do (I doubt if they can stay up long in a big fight though).

Another thing I found out is that I wanna spec entirely for traits and not for stats. I can pretty much fill in whatever stat gaps I have using items.

Staying warrior though so far.

edit: I have a question maybe one of you guys can answer that I forgot to test...

Say I'm using axe and shield and burn my shield skills, if I weapon swap to another axe and shield, will my shield skills be refreshed since I'm using a different shield?

Oh ya I meant to say I almost switched to thief because I was messing around with a sword and pistol skill called "pistol whip" and I saw 5000's in damage coming off the dummy's head haha! I was like man if I can figure out a way to get this off once or twice it's game over hehe.

Then I checked my combat log and realized it was a bug.
