Greetings Everyone,

One of my most common questions I get asked is

"I have earned enough points for promotion but I still haven't received it. When will I be promoted?"

So I felt it would be a good time to explain how this process works.

Before we get started make sure to check the Family Structure page of the Gaiscioch.com site as it outlines the required Time, Family Honor Points, Contribution, Leadership, and Fellowship required for each promotion.

From the time you hit the requirements mark for your next promotion the process is as follows:

  1. At 1AM Pacific, the website resyncs all records. Any record eligible for promotion is flagged and analyzed and placed in my morning promotions queue.
  2. At 8-10AM Pacific, I sit down and review the days promotions (Usually over breakfast). If any "Red Flags" appear I investigate and make sure the member isn't exploiting the system.
  3. If questionable behavior is found we investigate it before we approve the promotion. If everything looks good I approve the promotion and it goes into effect immediately.

This is a mostly manual process so it sometimes can take over 24 hours to receive a promotion. I do my best to review them daily but sometimes real life pulls me away.

Examples of Questionable Behavior:

  • Frequent complaints by members from marketplace orders not being delivered
  • Claiming multiple events that took place at the same time.
  • Claiming unusually high number of events per day.
  • Anytime more than 3 (ESO) or 4 (GW2) people claim participation in a single group dungeon. (5 People Max for GW2, 4 People Max for ESO, # of Participants + 1 Leader)
  • Claiming leadership for high point events that nobody claims participation for.
  • Point totals not adding up to points seen in database (In event of a person finding a jinx in the armor that awards more points than it should)

There is an entire script that is around 5000 lines of code that checks for strange behavior that alerts me if people are misbehaving. As we discover new ways people exploit the system I build onto the script for additional checks to ensure it doesn't happen in the future. If you are ever red flagged I will investigate and If I do discover something questionable I will discuss it with you in private. This is not a very common occurrence, but it does happen once in a while. Traditionally players who exploit the system don't tend to stick around long. As soon as I call them out on it they split.

Hope this clarifies the process :).

Thanks Fog. I didn't know you had to be a private detective and that people actually would go to the effort of cheating their promotions. How sad for them. I appreciate all the hard work you must put in behind the scenes that we never hear about.

o/

I checked for two events that were posted at the same time because one of them was a follow up because the leader had to leave. Is that ok?
