ESO Beta Weekend irritations

Everyone else has been voicing their positives, that I mainly agree with.  However, as I am a contrarian by nature, I thought that I would list a few things that annoyed me.  I'm sure that most of these will be fixed by release, but I would like to see if anyone had similar IRKs.

  • Having to type /reloadui a google of times.
  • Having to leave multiple quests unfinished because a portion of it was bugged.  Many of them I was able to finish later after filling out four to five crash reports.
  • Being a dutiful Beta tester and trying to fill out the "what were you doing" portion of the crash reports with as much detail as possible.
  • Not being able to get my white horse, even though I pre-ordered the Imperial version almost a month ago.
  • ESO Customer Support sending me back, for the third time, a form letter template detailing all the perks of an imperial pre-order in response to my questions about why I had no white horse.
  • Sneaking into a Covenant Spy's house, while he was out, to search for evidence of his heinous crimes....just to open the door and see 30 other players rushing about, in 400 square feet, doing the same thing.
  • Standing around with a herd of PvE players waiting for some critical element of a quest to spawn.
  • Trying to see anything meaningful in zone chat while irritated herds of PvE players waiting for their quest element to spawn are spamming their irritation in zone chat.
  • Trying to group with people in PvE was cumbersome, especially when dealing with phasing issues.
  • Trying to solo level my healer to ten, so I could PvP, and running into too many quests that were to much for my pitiful DPS.  That's not ESO's fault, just my crappy party support build trying to go it alone after multiple group phasing issues.
  • The stop motion animation that was PvP in Cyrodiil.  Though, when I went to some of the live beta streams, they didn't seem to have any of the same issues?  Were they on the same servers as the rest of us?  I tried two different campaigns with the same results.
  • Starting out on another Cyrodiil marathon to try and rejoin my low survival percentage group after I "just died for no apparent reason", probably ganked in between stop motion frames by someone who had their "prevent lag" spell going and ....were.....laughing......at.......the......oblivious.....idiot......stutter.....stepping......past......them.....in......slow......motion.

I know this is a Beta Test, and bugs are to be expected, and I didn't go into this expecting an smooth as glass playing experience.  I just wanted a little whine with my cheese.  I am looking forward to release and will have a tonne of fun playing ESO with Gaiscioch.  My current plan is to spend the first two weeks leveling up my builds in PvE and then have them go into PvP after the initial spasm has worn off when they are at level 17 or so.  Fog has even said, during the podcast, that there would be a wait between release and when the guild(s) were setup and PvP campaigns were chosen, so it seems that would be a good time for leveling during that time period.

A few comments from your notes:

  • Not being able to get my white horse, even though I pre-ordered the Imperial version almost a month ago.

It is beta, you will get that on release.  So you could try the horses they had one in the Stables for 100 gold.  My understanding when the game launches you will have to do the same thing.  Go to the Stable and bay 1 gold to get your imperial horse.  (This I am not certain on but I read it somewhere)

  • Trying to group with people in PvE was cumbersome, especially when dealing with phasing issues

A couple groups were on Raidcall almost the entire beta.  Several of us even rerolled just to group with others that joined late.  It is a great way to find good friendly groups

  • Trying to solo level my healer to ten, so I could PvP, and running into too many quests that were to much for my pitiful DPS.  That's not ESO's fault, just my crappy party support build trying to go it alone after multiple group phasing issues.

I did something similar and got to level 12 and pretty much gave up.  Even in a group my heals weren't very noticable so I rerolled and had an absolute blast playing a Khajiit Nightblade

That may be so, but there were a tonne of others riding around on an imperial horse.  I looked in every stable I could find, it was "NO horse for YOU".  The cheapest was like 14,000 gold.  I was wondering if there was a problem with my account status which is why I contacted Tech Support three times with the same question worded several different ways.

A couple groups were on Raidcall almost the entire beta.  Several of us even rerolled just to group with others that joined late.  It is a great way to find good friendly groups

Yup, I was there too, most of the phasing issues were with fellow family members.

I did that with a Dragonborn.  Funny thing was on the beta streams of PvP, they were always looking to gank the healers first, so they must be of good use, I just never got to that stage.

Hello, the beta build we were able to use was from dec.  My friend that is a private tester said that the new build runs better an the vast majority of all the quest bugs etc have been addressed. Altho there is still some and there will be at launch. that of course is normal and expected.

My main and only issue that bugs me is the public questing. mainly referring to the dungeons and the like. I can not count how many times I would zone in.. start running to the quest boss or goal, or get like 1 attack in and then acrossed my screen it says... "you have completed blah blah quest".  Just being in the area when other players finish the boss or goal auto makes you finish it as well. this feature perturbs me. I hope it is addressed somehow.

Oh one more issue I think warrants a say.... stun lock.

On my Templar tank. sword and shield  or twohandweapon. I was able to stunlock  Anyone for  10-15 seconds very easy.

shield charge 2secstun, attack , pierceing javelin knockback and 3 second stun, attack, REPEAT.

can get a solid 4 charges off with nothing put into stamina, and a solid 3-4 javelin throws with nothing put into magicka. I tested this over n over n over. Pretty sick and alittle op to be honest.

Anyhow just thought I would share the experience. Cause I know how much people love to scream and cry about too much CC....

Yes, I'm on the private test server and the PTS is getting another new build tomorrow which is a few builds ahead of what folks got to stress test over the weekend.    Many of the issues you have seen have been addressed though ZOS makes other changes that can introduce new bugs.  Tis the nature of MMO development!

> For those who have trouble being in the same phase as their group, please try traveling to your group leader rather than traveling to other group members.

that's a good tip! ty!

I share the OP's frustrations with zoning and incomplete quests.. I've written it off to being beta and just a stress test really.. Hopefully it will be all ready by release. I haven't really seen a game/mmo pull off zoning perfectly until they've had sever revisions... I hope they get it right early.

Three frustrations of note for me.. The first is that I didn't get to test PVP. I finally got my toon to level ten with a few hours to spare until the reset and couldn't figure out how to get to Cyrodiil. I'm thinking it might have been disabled or something in those twilight hours or I just missed something obvious. Either way I will make sure to get on raidcall and have the guild walk me through next time.

The other frustration for me was the ranting in chat by beta testers who had no intention of actually buying the game once it was released. They spent their time in chat trolling the sub model and lauding f2p counterparts. I found this very annoying. the payment model is not part of the beta test and why play if you're just going to troll?

The final notable frustration for me (a bit self-inflicted...) was just knowing that I was going to play through the content again once it was released. I have never been big on alts... I don't grind toons out very well... Once a game looses it's wow factor and i'm not exploring something knew I start to loose interest. I don't want my interest in ESO to wane before it's even released!

/pours the OP a glass of Two Ponds Merlot

I, too, am highly annoyed with the need to /reloadui every other second. Eventually, I discovered that it seems to be related to using the ESC key rather than the ALT key they have defined for closing windows, exiting vendor interactions, etc. (Not always, but most of them.)

I was able to find the Imperial horse stablemaster and was probably one of those flaunting by you. Sorry 'bout that. :(

I tried m'best to find any Gaiscioch on but /zone was unresponsive and (blush) I completely forgot to try RaidCall.

The number of borked quests put me in a "meh" mood by Sunday morning and I just took the rest of that day off. The capper was being summoned back to the Harborage, paying good gold to portal there, getting the mission to go into ColdHarbour, and then having the portal into the place crap out on me with a "You do not have the permissions to use this portal".

Yeah, I bugged it. Then I logged out and went back to Landmark to take my annoyance out on the poor minerals and trees of the world. *chuckle*

Regarding the horse, I too pre-ordered, and in game, bought what I supposed was the Imperial horse (it was white) for $100 gold.  I don't know if it was unlocked for a small number of folks, but if that was the case then I feel rather fortunate to be one of the chosen few.

I tried to get to level 10, but didn't make it. I didn't get on Raidcall cause I was concentrating on trying to get to lvl 10. The broken quests were annoying, so was reloadui, but remembering it was beta helped with the annoyance. There is much, much too much "reading" in my opinion! I don't mind understanding the quest line, but I don't want to spend hours upon hours in game doing mostly reading. :)  Oh and some the quests that were "supposed" to be solo, were impossibly difficult. This was rather disheartening to say the least.

One of the positive things was I FINALLY figured out how to enchant stuff!! Yay me!!

Could someone please tell me the best weapon for a Templar, please? I'm so not used to a healer having plate AND any weapon choice other than a staff.

So there ya go! A few criticisms of beta.

@Alana, if you want a pure healer the Templar skills down the healing tree pair up quite nicely with the restoration staff line. It also allows you to double dip your resource pools for healing since your staff heals come from Stamina and your Class heals come from magicka. but on that same note, putting points into stamina will increase the potency of your staff heals and the same goes with magicka for your class skills.

Also, for PVE I would more than likely go a mixture of Medium armor and light armor for that set up. That way you can get the Magicka and stamina bonuses from both sets.

The lag in Cyrodiil is suprisingly easy to fix. I found the solution in a thread in the beta forums. It's basically changing one numerical value in a text file. I assume that will be changed for the next beta or the release. If it is not, I'll post the information if Foghladha doens't have a problem with it.

Both happens while I was in Cyrodiil and I haven't try at the leveling zone

It does involve modifying a text file. I don't *think* that is inappropriate, but then again there is this small nagging doubt in the back of my head. On the other hand, ZOS is allowing interface Add-ons, or mods, some of the quite revealing that show what skills opponents have just used against you, which are doing things with the text files. And, I found this solution in the Beta Forums which is monitored by ZOS staff.

I'll go ahead and post it, but if any mods feel this is inappropriate content, please delete it.

Here is the fix that solved about 90% of the lag for me in Cyrodiil:

1. In your 'Documents' or 'My Documents' folder, open the 'Elder Scrolls Online' folder.

2. In your 'Elder Scrolls Online' folder, open your 'live' folder.

3. Open the file called 'UserSettings.txt.'

4. Locate the line that says "SET  RequestedNumThreads  "-1". If you can't find it and you're in Notepad, open the 'Edit' menu and select 'Find.' Type in 'requested' and click 'Find Next.' That should take you to this line.

5. Change the number in this line from "-1" to "0".

6. Save the file.

7. Launch ESO and play.

I wouldn't worry about that too much, since players can avoid that if they choose to learn how. All you have to do is LMB+RMB (the same as the Interrupt). This causes a player to break out of almost every CC, and gives them CC immunity. It does cost stamina, though, so if they have used theirs all up (with weapon skills or sprinting, etc.), they won't be able to do it.

I hear ya on the " get out of any CC" thing. I tested that many times too. It gives about a 2 second immunity and uses a ton of stamina.  compared to the  7-9 big stuns  the Templar could do in a row...  seems almost non- existant of a " get out of cc " ability.

I will be fine using it as is , but. I kinda hope they adjust the stunlock thing some. I mean it was plain laughable what I was doing to people with stunning. once people all start seeing it ( and  most everyone shifts to use it )an getting it done to them in pvp ALLLL the time.. people will be outraged and screaming for blood to get it changed mark my words.

Im very surprised it has not been mentioned more in the pvp videos. but from watching most of them I see people are not yet maximizing rotation an skills.

My BIGGEST Beta weekend irritation was the number of people that don't seem to read their beta emails or log into the beta forums. The number of people asking the same questions over and over again - when you've been given the answer already (beta finish time) or means to finding the answer (beta patch notes on the forum provides - the zones available, level cap, what you should be focusing on for testing, what version the beta is run on etc etc etc - and you're reminded to login to the forums for updates in the beta email). I'm usually a helpful person, I enjoy helping people - but after saying the same things over 20 times in relation to stuff you should already know *Grrrrrrr*

The next irritant was the trollers. Between the above irritant, and this irritant I ended up ignoring Zone chat entirely towards the end of the beta.

Guess I'm not much of a 'people' person hehe

The game is fun yet frustrating but this version that was available for all was an old unpatched version. From what I have read the PTS is much much cleaner and less irritating. Also people who ordered physical copies of the imperial edition will not be able to claim their horse until they can input the key from the box. So yes you get 5 days early access but I don' t know for sure if you will get a horse till you get the actual game. Digital orders get everything earlier.

Howdy  Scarydrew. I would say it is definitely the level thing. Really hard to be very effective in any of the starting dungeons at 10th..  From my testing of playing the same. healing Templar with staff I see most people  A; using to many heal skills, and B; using them to fast burning out their magicka. I suggest using  Healing ritual( temp ) and regeneration ( staff) only. ( at the low levels ). cast regen at start with heavy staff attack and use ritual as needed when things start to get rough. Grand healing is good for emergency extra.  rushed ceremony uses too much magicka and not a very good  heal for it. It is just not needed.

The healing ritual and the regen are very magicka efficient . Just my 1 cent worth of advice for team healing.

Both of those are darn good ideas, one of the reasons I'm going to like TESO is the utter flexibility.  It seems that the light armor line would be better for a healer focus with every passive being useful, where the stamina bonus is the good one for medium.....however, having the extra protection of medium armor would be nice.  But if you are in the situation where you will attract a lot of aggro, maybe a switch to heavy armor for the duration of the battle would be better?

I would imagine that there will be more hardware resources online for the release.  Many companies will deliberately under deploy hardware during stress tests in order to see what the code will do under those circumstances.  I was just surprised at difference between my experience and what I was seeing on the PvP Beta streams.

Yeah my irritation is also with the quest and 200+ people in the room I get one hit and done. They need to instance the "public dungeons" or just instance quest areas. I don' t  think that this will be fixed and it will be something we have to deal with. If you are really upset by it the your best bet is to just ignore the story with you main guy and just blast through. Then later on make a alt when everything slows down and pay attention to the plot line etc.. But you will not have a positive experience is you are playing day 1 or early release.

Having a Macbook with a PC parttion I played initially with the Mac Client and switched to the PC client.  I really didn't noticed any difference in the game play at all.  The level of bugginess was about the same..

I froze quite often just interacting with vendors.  Re-logging seemed to correct things there.  I too ran into situations where quests were completed automatically when I didn't kill anyone.  Because I switched clients and played a couple different characters I wasn't able to get beyond level 9.

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience even though I wasn't able to do any pvp.

Scarydrew, I also wanted to point out that from my testing experience, this game doesn't seem as forgiving for people taking unnecessary damage. When people are taking damage by standing in things, not blocking/interrupting, there is only so much the healer can do. Of course level 10 is a bit under powered for healing the starter dungeons and I did find it got easier as I got higher level, but I was also very successful healing it with a group who would effectively avoid damage, and kill weaker mobs early.

From what I've seen I'm liking how the group content functions at this time, and I hope it stays similar throughout the game. I only have the 3 starter dungeons to go off. I haven't seen an AOE taunt in the game, and I enjoy that. It allows the tank to pick up more dangerous mobs, and adds more immersion to combat. Rather than having 10 enemies attacking one tank,  they spread out and attack the group. I'm hoping the healing stays similar like in early content where we don't just stand back and heal constantly, but are given opportunities to help damage or support with stuns and interrupts as well. I figure spamming heals in this game is a quick way to go OOM, and hopefully it will be about using the right skill at the right time rather than continuous casting.

So far, both the pve and pvp content has felt fresh and exciting and I can't wait to get into this game!

Haha I forgot this thread was about irritations and not things I enjoyed!

Irritations?

-Although I do like the "clean UI" thing theyre going for, I do not like not being able to see buffs or debuffs. I've already noticed a video of someone using a mod that showed them, which is good that it will be an option one way or another.

-The questing with so many people if very irritating indeed. I always thought ES would make a good MMO, but I feel like this game needs more instanced areas for quests. Goes back to immersion. Completing a quest requiring you to sneak only to see 10 other players already inside, sometimes engaging your objective when you arrive really ruins the experience. Like some1 else mentioned, a lot of the quest dungeons I found myself running pretty much straight to the objectives as the mobs were already cleared. I understand a lot of that had to do with the high population in those areas, but I think some of the quests need to be addressed to provide some better immersion.

I'm sure theres more but I mostly remember positives! Did anyone try the mini dungeons in cyrodil? the mobs scale to the group, and have a mini boss at the end. I found those had a lot of good loot inside from killing the random mobs encountered! =D

Two things I have not seen mentioned here or anywhere else:

I could not find a way to turn my character to face another direction or face the way he was looking or face someone talking to him, without moving (walk/run). This is purely about roll play and not game breaking but would be nice. Also could not back up while out of combat, useful when you run up too fast and are now standing too close or on top of someone or NPC.

Also, I have seen in video but, can not find how to turn my camera to view my character from the side or another angle while running. So far I seem to be able to travel only in the direction I am looking and can not turn the camera while running.

Camera turns fine while in combat and I can back up in combat.

if you know what I'm doing wrong please post. Thanks :)

On the pure heal Templar line,

I would probably hold off on focusing on that too strongly until you get close to 15 if you are also focusing on Resto staff.   Build the resto staff and good support skills up prior to 15 and then focus on the pure healing line.

You'll have time to build the other strand and it'll make the earlier levels more fun

My only real irritation i had with any of the beta's tests was this issue i kept running into with the NPC dialogue screens locking up on me and it would either take a good couple of minutes for me to exit out of them or i would have to simply relog.

After awhile it gave me this complex of not wanting to even talk to any NPC's in fear of that bug.  I pray it won't be present during Launch, but crazier things have happened during launches of big MMO's in the past. *shutters*

Tuz youre absolutly right! I forgot about that one. I posted it as feedback during the test. I hope they add turn left and right keybinds to the already existing move left and right. I also want to be able to turn my character to face people  talking to or use emotes etc without having to do this awkward circle movement to try and line myself up. I think when you go into first person turning with the mouse will work but id like a keyboard bind for use in third.

A couple of piggybacks:

  • Having to type /reloadui a google of times. This caused me the most heartburn by far!
  • Not being able to get my white horse, even though I pre-ordered the Imperial version almost a month ago. I eventually could get one but it would have cost me 100 gold - I thought it was free.
  • Sneaking into a Covenant Spy's house, while he was out, to search for evidence of his heinous crimes....just to open the door and see 30 other players rushing about, in 400 square feet, doing the same thing. This got annoying to me too... some characters were 'fighting' invisible monsters at times - or they had already killed the boss and I waltzed right in, completed the quest with no enjoyment whatsoever.
  • There was also a minor bit of what I'll call 'poaching' - finding ore or a rune spot to mine (a chest) and having someone get there a fraction of a second before me and harvest it - it then disappeared and I couldn't get it. GW2 spoiled me in this sense.

Yeah, it's a beta and I expect a lot of your grievances will be gone (I hope) by April... we'll see. Zenimax has been incredibly responsive to our feedback and I feel good at the overall polished nature of this game during a beta. Hope that helps.

You are going to get exactly what the digital peeps are going to get but with the statue. I'm going off what I have been reading about with some stuff like the horse not being available till I have the code in hand.  Not sure don't take my word, i'm just not expecting to have what the digital folks will have 5 days before start.

Regarding your white horses & pre-order:

It was beta, so perhaps the horse was given a cost for beta just to show how the system worked for buying mounts. That doesn't mean it won't be 'free' at launch.

From the FAQ:

"If they pre-order the game through a participating retailer, closer to launch they'll be provided with a code they can redeem after registering an account at https://account.elderscrollsonline.com. See participating retailers for more details."

I would assume that your retailer took your contact details so that they could provide you with the required code at the required time. My husband pre-ordered standard and he was told that the code would be available 3 days before launch (if you pre-order imperial then you should get 5 days, don't panic) - but he's called today and our store just received their code list, so he can go in with his receipt and get his code. So if you don't have your code yet, I'd suggest calling your retailer and asking about it. They should get their codes way before the headstart so that you're able to add your codes to your accounts and download the client to play at headstart. You will have your early access, and then when your store gets the physical copy in you can go pick it up - you essentially get to have your cake and eat it too ;)

First what I liked about the weekend.

  • I got my white horse....but so did everyone?|
  • The PvP lag was greatly lessened for the most part
  • Got to try crafting seriously.  Constructed a whole set of armor for myself (with help from XXX).  Lots of fun.
  • Got a Dragonborn to 14 over the weekend, got my butt kicked in Fungal grotto, but still had fun!
  • Got to do a lot more party stuff than I did before.

Here were my original issues again.

  • Having to type /reloadui a google of times.  (still borked, felt like I had to do it even more than before)
  • Having to leave multiple quests unfinished because a portion of it was bugged.  Many of them I was able to finish later after filling out four to five crash reports.  (still happened, on the same ones it happened before ex: fighters guild, sulpher pools, etc.  Not sure about all of them that were alliance specific as I just played EH this time)
  • Being a dutiful Beta tester and trying to fill out the "what were you doing" portion of the crash reports with as much detail as possible.  (actually I only out one of these this time, but got several "UI Crash Dialogs" that I had to close)
  • Not being able to get my white horse, even though I pre-ordered the Imperial version almost a month ago.  (got it, so did everyone)
  • Sneaking into a Covenant Spy's house, while he was out, to search for evidence of his heinous crimes....just to open the door and see 30 other players rushing about, in 400 square feet, doing the same thing.  (Still had this issue, don't know if this is fixable until we get past the bottleneck of a tonne of people being at the same level at the same time)
  • Standing around with a herd of PvE players waiting for some critical element of a quest to spawn.  (For me mainly one section of the fighters guild quest which didn't fix all weekend as far as I know, though I did see lots of zone griping)
  • Trying to group with people in PvE was cumbersome, especially when dealing with phasing issues.  (didn't have this issue as much, mainly because I grouped with a lot of the same people all weekend.  Though once the group started changing, those issues started again)
  • The stop motion animation that was PvP in Cyrodiil.  Though, when I went to some of the live beta streams, they didn't seem to have any of the same issues?  Were they on the same servers as the rest of us?  I tried two different campaigns with the same results.  (actually I had a good time with PvP for the most part, though some of the PvP streams I watched appeared to be experiencing lag)

As a preamble to this complaint I have pre-ordered the imperial edition and overall enjoyed the game on this "last" test weekend. When I posted the above list of irritations I was told that the PTS server was two versions ahead of the main beta server and most of my complaints had been addressed.  I have to admit that I was disappointed that MOST of the things I whined about had not been addressed and were still issues.  I'm not under any illusions that Zenimax cares what I think, but I know that many of these things were huge issues and reported on in a lot of the industry blogs and reviews.  Ah well....still looking forward to release.  :)

I would have to agree with you on the bugged quests. Seemed only to be at the ending of questline's for the "main" boss. So many times people were told to run out and reset the instance, yet you had afk players.

The only thing that REALLY jerks my chain so far in this game is...... typing guild1 for guild chat !

Like seriously every other game in the universe it is /g but nooo ESO has to be a special snowflake and has to have something different. Cant be even /gu which I have seen sometimes, or even the way Guild Wars has it.

/g  ......Group

/guild1 .......Guild

The one thing that clearly seemed improved to me was the need to "reloadui". I basically didn't need to do it, maybe I did two times all weekend. Now there were a couple of times when I got stuck at a vendor or a crafting table, but I just hit escape, and didn't need to "reloadui".

Frankly I did experience a lot of crashing, which I assume is because the MacOSX client is still shaky, but I definitely saw major improvements with much of the game.

True enough - I did have to /reloadui, but not as often.

I had heard that the version they rolled out this past beta was a few versions behind the current test version, so it's hard to tell what actually will or won't be fixed.

But hopefully there will be even fewer /reloadui necessities ;)

My biggest irritation was the total trash talk going on in zone chat.  Some will say to just ignore it or to turn it off, but I'm the type to try and help people out when they are stuck on a quest, have a crafting question, or a general game question - so ignoring it or shutting it off isn't a choice that I will make.  Just one "Thank You" is worth all the garbage I have to sift through.

There was even one person who had the audacity to make the statement that "WOW was totally bug free when it launched - regardless if you like the game or not - it didn't have bugs!"  I was like "Oh snap, you did not just say that!   10 years have so affected your memory about the nodes that couldn't be harvested, the major lag in all the capitol cities, the pets that you couldn't tame, the server shut downs, the quests without completion - all games have bugs when launched"   never heard back from him/her but other people jumped on them also...

The good thing is most of the chat I can't stand won't be there since those that were shouting profanities, insulting other players - the devs - the game, won't do the sub so they won't be there.

My biggest issue is always with server stability since I know that bugs will get fixed and I never have issues with bugs in a beta.  The server was stable - I had very little lag - and not one random DC - although part of our group in AvA did get DC'd I wasn't one of them that had to load back in.   This is the best sign for me - but I still await launch and hope I stay commected just as well.

I think bugged quests will be a huge irritation at launch.  I hope I'm wrong.  I just ignored zone chat for the most part, but I agree that launch will be better due to the lessening of troll population density.  I used mainly local chat for questions like "still bugged?" or "want to die with me in fungal grotto?".  I'm thinking lag will not be much of an issue.  I was in some pretty heavy AvA this last weekend and had very little lag, though random "unknown error" disconnects did happen a fair amount.  Maybe "unknown error" is code for "lag, but we don't want to tell you it's lag".   :)

I was going to turn off zone chat as well, but I remembered that the Gaiscioch mission statement includes helping others outside the group.  So, I left zone chat on and helped out wherever I could.

I'm with you, Morigana, in hoping the trash talk will lesson as the game goes live and people will have to pay to troll.

Another thing for those speccing healers... it's a good idea to wear two pieces of heavy armor for that added protection, plus you can get some nice physical resist skills to hotbar from the heavy armor skills line to help you out when things get ugly.  That seems to be a fairly common tactic for better survivability, enabling you to get nice bonuses from both types of armors.

My irritations lie in the crafting areas of the game.  Like being able to only research a trait from a specific item that applies ONLY to another item of that EXACT type.  So you can research the 'training' trait from a robe and you can ONLY add that trait to a robe once you have learned it.  I understand that is there for a time sink, but as it stands, you will spend well over 400+ days just in research time alone in order to learn every trait for every piece of gear (unless you spend skill points to lessen research time).

I think it would fit better if the trait could be applied to all the other types of gear within that element, ie. all boots, not just boots made from cloth.

But, at the same time, the crafting system is incredibly robust and it's going to be really fun and interesting!  It's nice that someone finally made crafted gear the best gear available in the game!

I also am a little irritated with some of the add-ons because they take a bit away from the mystique of the game.  One thing I really enjoyed about Spittlebunk or whatever it was (the spider group dungeon), was having to pan my cursor across the various mobs we were engaged with, trying to pick out the healers to target first.  Doing that while in the midst of a heated battle really added to the fun and excitement.  Add ons that tell you who is healing and who is using specific magics, I feel is a slight bit of exploiting because it automatically tells you 'x' is a healing class or caster class, etc.

People should be able to look like a beast of a tank, but not be known as a healer until someone physically recognizes those healing arts being employed.  I don't know if the add-ons extend to pvp in that way.  I hope they do not.  Obviously, you can choose  not to use that add-on, but if your opponents are using it, that's one advantage they'll have over you and being able to pick out the healers in a group of 50+ plus combatants becomes real advantageous.

On the flip side of that, it's quite nice being able to have a visual cue as to what your damage is doing and how resistant you actually are.  The timers and buffs are also nice to be aware of as well.

Oh.. and not to pour gasoline on the fire... but I was able to buy the white imperial horse for 1g, not 100g like everyone else has been saying and I didn't purchase the collector's.  :P  That may have been an AD thing though.  *shrug

I think what the goal of that was to make more "niches" for specialized crafting by making a "real-time" bottleneck.

I noticed some differences (good and bad) between the last 2 beta weekends.

This last beta, in the starting area, they limited the initial weapon choice to a 1h sword.  (Previously, you could choose your weapon... from a bow, resto staff, 2H weapon, 1H sword + shield, and a staff).  Now its just a 1h sword.  I have to say I liked having a preference. Sad to see that choice gone.

I definitely had to use /reloadui more often this last beta session.

Experience gained:  From 1-5 was very quick.  from 5+ was very slow this last beta.   The previous beta, getting from 1 to 5 was not fast, but getting from 1 to 8 was faster 2 beta's ago than this last weekend.  I did not get higher than 8 this last weekend, so I cannot comment above level 8.

Some quests seemed harder.  The quest level seemed to be set too high.  Compare this to the previous beta, where the quest levels seemed way to easy.  I think making quests harder was a good intent - they just pushed the envelope a bit too much (IMO).

Found it hard to level above 8 for a few reasons this last weekend.  First, I had a quest log filled with quests that were broken.  This left me with quests that were either too high level, or too difficult to complete.

I was always using the /fps (frames per second) command.   I noticed it would dip and spike sporadically.  However, regardless of what the FPS meter said, I couldn't tell any difference whether it was low or high.  Movement/motion in the game was always fluid and nice.  I had no idea my FPS was going up and down.  Gameplay was always beautiful and enjoyable.

This last weekend was my first involvement with joining the guild in game.  Of all the online games I've ever played, I have to say it was *so* nice to just log in, have a notification ready and waiting for me to join the guild.  It can't get easier than that.  It was like reserved seats on an airplane.  Everything was all taken care of in advance.  Loved it!

Learning how to communicate in the guild was not so obvious.  /p is party chat.  /z is zone chat... You would think /g would be guild chat, right?  wrong.  /g was group chat.   /g1 is guild chat.  If you are in more than 1 guild, then you would use /g1, /g2, etc.

I will add - that...

I received my mount - or 3 - for 1 g each also.  I was testing the stable use which did work just fine.

I was able to just hit <esc> this beta when stuck at the bank, vendor, or crafting window instead of the /reloadui.

I actually leveled a character from start to level 10 in 8 hours - with a break for dinner in that time as well - so I can't complain about the speed of leveling for the first 10 levels - after that it did take more time for each level - but I enjoy the slower pace of leveling.
