It's official: GW2 launches August 28th

Earlier this year I told you that 2012 would be the Year of the Dragon, and that the next few betas would help us nail down our actual launch date. Well, after the results of our latest stress test, I’m happy to announce that we’re ready to nail down that date.

Guild Wars 2 will officially launch on Tuesday, August 28th.

This is an incredibly momentous day for the studio and for me personally. This journey began in 2007 when we first announced that we were beginning work on Guild Wars 2 and that you wouldn’t be hearing from us for a while. Then in 2010 we unveiled our manifesto for Guild Wars 2: a living breathing online world that challenges convention, that’s designed for fun instead of grind, and that brings social interaction to a new level in an online world.

Through all the long hours and hard decisions, we were bolstered by the knowledge that we were not in this alone. All along you’ve been there for us, cheering us on, supporting us when we needed it, testing early versions of the game, and above all, giving us your honest feedback every step of the way. Guild Wars 2 is a better game for all of the work that our community has put in.

Now that we’re just two months away from launch, we’ll spend our remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game, to ensure that we provide you with the best launch-day experience we possibly can.

To this end, I’m excited to announce that our next and final Beta Weekend Event is planned for July 20-22.

These are exciting times; we’re on the cusp of a new era in online roleplaying games, and we’re glad you’re on this journey with us.

We’ll see you in-game.

This is a good thing because I've come to the stunning conclusion I may have to let Rift die when it runs out in August due to money issues and GW2 is free to play and I have the game paid for already. Of course, things may change by then.

On a good note, as of 6/21 per a letter I got today, my SSDI was approved. Rather amazed that it was done in almost exactly 12 months from start through appeal. Was thinking I wouldn't know until late fall time frame. So this is a huge relief and in time for my birthday next week. HA! So I can add another joke to my life - Happy Birthday, you are officially approved as a disabled member of society. Still think learning I had MS on April Fool's Day last year as the quirkiest timing of anything in my life.

Anyway, on with life and the gaming!! Weeeeeee!

huh so early release launch day is 7 days from PAX Prime? I'd say Ben called that pretty much on the nose. I'm still a little surprised it didn't release in September, but I'm not complaining.

Looks like I'm taking work off starting the 27th of August. :) Two weeks off at last!

I'm still in disbelief. My eyes read what just can't seem to be real.

EDIT: BTW for those that just need the reassurance that early release is indeed the 25th, RB just tweeted the following:
"To clarify: 8-28-12 is the ‪#GW2‬ launch date. Headstart access for pre-purchasers will begin on 8-25-12. ‪#GW2iscoming‬ ~RB2"

Hopefully we'll see a server list before the 25th so we can know what server to roll on ahead of time.

Yeah if it's anything like WoW or WAR launch, the first few servers will fill up REALLY fast. We'll want to pick a really low population server if possible or even wait a few hours after launch before we pick a server.

Here's a list based off of beta servers (also gives what guild rolled on which, the ones with no guilds are the more brand new servers):

I wouldn't mind seeing us land on Frost Gate, Seafarer's Rest, or Sifhalla because of the Lore behind each, but honestly it really won't matter what server we end up on as long as we all can get to it.

FINALLY!! I will be taking the week off as well. I don't think the server will matter much as we will have one of the more populated guilds.
