ESO
This weekend I was at a loss for something to do in Elder Scrolls Online. I was level 42, the last quest in my journal was bugged, and I was a bit low to be attempting the level 45 Harborage mission. I didn't feel like rolling an alt and I didn't feel like PvPing, so instead I did something that I never do.

I threw on a TV show, loaded up on Diet Mountain Dew, and proceeded to mob grind my way through Bangkorai until I reached level 44. It's not that mob grinding in MMOs is unusual, since many players do it every time they log in. I usually avoid it, though, and for whatever reason it scratched my particular ESO itch on this particular day.

What about you, Massively readers? Do you mob grind in your MMO of choice?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

I did some mob grinding from the high teens to the mid-late twenties. After that the xp per kill dropped off in relation compared to how much you need to level imho. I just kept questing as I could. Luckily i was able to quest a few levels higher than my own level. This is why I went into the VR1 zone and i was still only lvl 48. i finished the fight with Molog Bal when I was about 48.3. I admit it is a little frustrating. I am not a 100% completionist, but in most games I would do enough quests that along with the xp from mob kills, I would already be 2-3 levels higher than when I was supposed to leave a zone and go into the next.

I REALLY want to get into PvP more so I might just skip VR content for a bit because I am honestly tired of the grind and simply do quests and PvP content in Cyrodiil for a while... we shall see.

I will mob grind for a specific goal in games - in ESO it is for the Fighter's Guild.   I didn't leave the starter isle until I had Silver Bolts on my skill bar.   If I am in an area and a quest has me running through an area with undead or Daedric then I will spend an extra 30 mins to an hour just killing those mobs.

Once they release other guilds to join then I shall see if there is another "something" to grind but I never do it just for EXP - there has to be something involving a faction, or guild in this game, that gives me something else besides the Exp.

I am not fond of doing it for "rare" drops since I have found over the decades that I am never the lucky "one" to get it.   I did do it in WOW in a sense to find rare pets since I knew they would eventually spawn so killing 100 spiders just to stay alive while I waited was sort of a "grind" but then again - that was for something other than exp.

I never found grinding for Exp fun - but for another reward was a different story.
