Looks like pre-orders can play any race with any faction.
This really bothers me that all races are not playable even with a subscription unless you purchase the "deluxe' package. There's already some trepidation about having a subscription but, not be able to access the entire game with a subscription is problematic.
Oh boy!
PLAY AS AN IMPERIAL
Play as an Imperia and play in any Alliance. Gain unique bonuses, crafting styles, gear and more!
Meh, it kinda goes against the idea of using a different race in a different alliance :/
I don't really have a problem with subscription. I am a little irked that they've been saying the races are locked to factions due to lore and now if you pre-order you can join any faction (though I am also happy about this too, I'm so conflicted). However, the fact that to get a race you have to buy a CE really worries me. I can understand fluff pieces like the horse, pet, and even the rings, but I assume the Imperial race will have a a unique race line which could affect game play. It feels a little, well, EAish.
Ok, here's the big one!
Every pre-order and pre-purchase comes with the Explorer’s Pack, which includes these great digital bonuses:
Any race can play any alliance! That is huge!!!
Since playing Imperial is only attainable via the Collector's edition, I suspect they might add this for everyone down the line. Just my thought.
Dang, I wish we can get additional character slots now...8 might not be enough.
Agree. Getting trinkets and pets which are largely cosmetic is fine but, a race with "unique" abilities and crafting skills that can't be obtained via a normal subscription might be an issue.
Oh my, subscription and pay-to-win? What's next? A vanity cash shop for pets and dyes?
What a cute little bird :)
Thanks! It's the unpopular opinon puffin!

Uh, it's just like me ;)
I, for one, LOVE that pre-orders can be in any alliance. If you think about it lore-wise, there ARE non-alliance races in every single factions, but they're rare. I can think of at least a handful off the top of my head that hang around in Ebonheart zones, as merchants and the like. By letting pre-order people play any race, they'll be able to control the non-alliance races in each faction a little bit... so Ebonheart wont be entirely flooded with wood elves :P At launch there will be a disproportionate amount of non-alliance races I'm sure, but 6 months or a year down the line those people will be more like special snowflakes I'm guessing. Unless they cave and let everyone do it later, but I thought they were going to allow people to switch factions at some point.
The part of this I love is now the Kitty's of the world can be a cat person and play on Ebonheart Side :). I seriously doubt that this will be limited to just preorder special edition people. My guess is they will end up having some sort of Rift like cash shop for upgrading pieces of your account. If you remember before RIFT went free-2-play they had a store where you could get all the collectors edition stuff at a reduced price as well as several others. It even went on sale occasionally. Many games do this now.
I know theres a lot of resistance but please remember:
While Gaiscioch may not be the guild for all, it's the family for many
Elder Scrolls Online is not the game for all, it's the home for many
If you do not care to play it, that is totally fine. Your happiness is far more important. Nobody is going to shun you because of it. Play what you want, how you want, as long as you want. There will never be a game that pleases everyone. Thats like asking for world peace.
But I do ask that you allow others who do look forward to playing Elder Scrolls Online, enjoy themselves and let them be excited about it. This is an exciting time and many like myself have looked forward to a Multiplayer Elder Scrolls for the better part of 2 decades. If you don't want to play then don't. But if you do, I look forward to our adventures.
Player satisfaction is far more important than the tag above your head.
Go play where you enjoy playing and you will always know where to find your family.
Kids go off to college, adults explore the world. It's what makes a family diverse.
Share your stories of adventure with us and speak of these worlds you're exploring.
Once a Gaiscioch, Always a Gaiscioch.
I edited and withdrew my post. Apparently I was typing it the same time Fog was typing his last post. As per his request I have withdrawn my post that had a strong sense of negativity about this game. I may or may not be buying this game. I'm still on the fence. However in the spirit of good faith I will not delude this thread with my negative comments and thus allow those excited about the game remain excited.
well I for one am supper pumped for this already bought my imperial edition cant wait for release :)
I do agree that if there were race storylines, being able to play a race anywhere would be kind of silly, but since they arent aimed in that fashion it doesn't really matter to me..... think this is something they could have done and would have been nice to say I'm an Norn and I hate orcs, but then again if I chose to be an orc and fight along side a norn it would state that I don't agree with my races action and I don't harbor this hatred for norns like other orcs do :)
anyway blabbing on, enjoy everyone be happy this is AWSOME
why is my sig not working Fog what am I doing wrong I tried changing it so many times, my gw2 sig used to work fine
They Build at midnight each morning. Every time you change it, it will need to recreate your sig.
Woot just bought the imperial digital edition. I do collect statues but this one doesn't appeal to me.
but I changed my sig like 2 weeks ago :(
Doreth, atm you do not have a Default Banner selected for ESO which is why it's not rendering. You need to go to the custom signatures page and set your signatures up. You have the default one setup but not the GW2 or ESO.
Well I am excited about any race in any alliance. Removes some of the angst I had about character creation
This actually adds angst to character creation for me – I was definitely going to create a Nord but now... Too many choices!!! Not that that's a bad thing :) I'm super excited about this and am just debating between the Digital and Physical Imperial Editions... The biggest downside to the Physical edition is having to go to the store to pick it up, heh. I'd go with Amazon, but as I'm in Australia I doubt that it would get here for launch day.
Didn't they say that they would email you the code, you should check into that before deciding.
Im excited! I cant wait to play with everyone again!
I'm really excited about the announcement, not for the collector's edition, but because today shaved 5 days off the time I have to wait to play. Pre-order accomplished.
I've already posted my fence-sitting position on the other thread with the article from Tamriel Foundary. So all I'm going to say is that I'm super excited that I'll get 5 days early play and can't wait to spend hours designing my first character - and yes, it takes me that long!!
This is great! I've never bought a limited edition of any game but I'm thinking this one will be the exception :D
I've already pictured myself as an Imperial blacksmith providing my fellow brothers with some imperial-looking gear, I think it will be a nice style diversification XD
Well hope to see you in there!
Not going to lie guys, the any race on any alliance is huge for me since every ES game I've played I've always been Khajit. Now I can play the race I love and still be in the same faction as you guys. I mean I'll probably still roll an Argonian, and ya know have a character in each faction just so I can see what all the various starter area's look like.. but this makes me so happy XD
And the art book.... CE bought for that alone!
I'm getting the edition with the statue, pre order goes down tomorrow cause gamestop did not have the game in their system today.
<In a playful and jokinly manner Kitty speaks>
Curses, Fog! How can I be a "heckler" if you actually convince me to get a pre-order just to roll Orvilaf into Ebonheart!?
Not fair, man, not fair!
:p
I love it since now my inner Wood Elf can come out and play with Gaiscioch (I was going Dark Elf - but I prefer their woodland sisters).
And remember - there is nothing that special about the Imperials if you don't get the collectors edition - the horse is far more valuable in my mind but it probably isn't even the horse I want *I tend to shy away from white horses" but I will have to wait and see what else they offer in the stables.
Imperials can turn any armor into Imperial style armor - since I'm not playing as an Imp - don't care, but that doesn't give them anything but cosmetics. And we have no idea what their racial's are so how can I complain. None of the racial's are going to be game breaking to begin with.
Any race + any alliance = our family totally staying together - no more someone being torn by their choice (as long as you pre-order - and I pre-order every game I want to play).
So, I am happy and I am ecstatic Kitty can be a Cat if she wants :)
edit: Added note
For those harbingers saying this is the prelude to a possible cash shop since how can they not offer "All Races to all Alliances" in the future - so they have to put in a cash shop which will soon equal "play to win"... Hush my child...
This just isn't true. Now I can't say that they won't have a cash shop but I can say that the last word from the Devs which was in August was "No cash shop!" and also they can have account upgrades sold from your account page without ever putting a cash shop in the game. This is how you buy expansion packs and various other account options which have been included in the past from other game companies... server transfer, added character slots, race changes, and a few other options all done without an in game cash shop.
So, All I ask is don't jump on the naysayer bandwagon and keep people informed - or not - but don't be misinformed yourself or spread misinformation. Thank you and safe journ.

I bought the imperial digital edition the 1st hour it was up to be bought. I am so looking forward to hang with Morden and Patchworks and making groups and meeting other members playing ESO. I would like to thank Gaicioch for letting join this HUGE family.
