Hello,

Was wondering if anyone is playing the Warlords of Draenor expansion?

I have not played the game in years, but heard many new and old users were flocking to the game.

Does anyone have any comments about it?

I heard you end up basically locked to your garrison for hours on end if you want to do anything... exactly like Blizzard said they didn't want it to be, so it sounds about right.  *Seriously, they tend to say one thing, and do something completely against what was said, almost like a two headed monstrosity with one nice head and one mean one!*
I've also heard that those playing enjoy the world design as one of Blizzard's best in WoW, but that since you are never out and about except for leveling or having already spent hours managing the big G, that it doesn't mean all that much.  I know people who do play, and they seem to enjoy it at least.

WARNING:  What follows is a little rant/reason as to why I will not partake, and in no way reflects upon anybody who does.  It is just my feelings about how Blizzard treats their players.  I have made the text black so that those not wishing to read may avoid it, if you do wish to read, please highlight the text.

Personally, me playing a Blizzard game anytime soon is going to take a lot of happenings.  I happened to read their response to 'Warlock's and Sacrifice Pet'... that statement that the talent was not meant to allow a Warlock to play petless.  Funny thing that, because that's EXACTLY what that talent did.  Well, I guess there was some other utility that nobody used because it was pointless for the role of the class, but they designed it that way, then dared to insult their player's intellect by stating that wasn't the intended use?  Sorry, but I just refuse to support a company that comes out with such a twisted piece of garbage.  *Of course, this was only one of many such things done by the company that turned me off to them, but it was that straw that broke the camel's back and ensured I did not buy certain other games they have since produced.*  Just my personal status with regard to them.

I'm loving it.  It's worth trying.

It's the first time I've really felt that my non-raiding playstyle isn't making me a second-class citizen. The introduction of the garrison mechanic allows you to customize your garrison instance to support whatever playstyle you like (PvE, PvP, raiding, crafting, pet battles, solo questing, etc).

The new expansion has radically changed gear and its acquisition, which has had effects on other major mechanics like raiding and crafting, which have changed a lot. I smiled inside when I saw a disgruntled raid leader admit that his team would be better off questing for ilevel 600+ gear to get ready for guild raids rather than by running LFR (looking for raid) endlessly. I was less pleased when I realized that my alt empire of crafters is no longer raking in money because of resource node changes and changes to gear that have limited the number of Draenor-crafted items players can wear to 3 (but class-specific high level gear drops during questing to supplement it... as opposed to the old random crappy, " intellect gear for death knights or "plate shoulders for priests" type drops. Now if you're a balance druid, you'll get leather gear for your particular spec, and it's often blue or purple quality). So the changes are huge, and everyone is affected by them. It takes time to understand how they all fit together and a lot of that I'm still learning.

As for  "locked in your garrison", that's not been my experience. Garrisons have their own hearthstone, on 15m cooldown, separate from the regular hearthstone and not on a shared GCD. They also have their own flightpoints, connected to the rest of Draenor. You construct several outposts as you level, and you can control followers and missions from those as well as from your garrison. How much you use your garrison is up to you. You can even ignore it if you want to, once you've done the initial short quest to establish a basic one. Blizzard has always stated that the garrisons are the mechanic of this expansion only (just as each preceding expansion has had a unique form of content), so they're not something that will be central to future content (similar to the now-abandoned Tillers farms in MoP). Oh, and the garrisons are also connected by a general chat channel (garrison channel). Like all chat channels in WoW it's a double-edged sword, but it does lessen the isolation of a garrison instance, and because of the level 90+ restriction gets rid of many of the level 1 channel trolls so it can be surprisingly functional.

The biggest downside for me so far is not having as much time to play each day as I'd like. As someone who's been subbed for 7 years but indifferent about the content since Wrath of the Lich King ended 4 years ago, that's pretty good. I didn't expect to like this expansion this much; wasn't even going to bother getting it, but got curious.

I am also playing WoD and loving it.

I really like the Garrison but I don't spend hours in it. Maybe those that do are the ones who want to level up their followers asap and stay there to send them to missions every hour? I usually choose the missions with longer times since I dont play more than a couple hours a day.

The leveling up experience has been fun and I really love the treasure hunt!

You should give it a try ^_^

I have to agree with Tyrra and Kit - loving the expansion.  Having lots of fun.  I havent' done much crafting yet so no experience with that.  I think the graphics and how you use quest items as well is a nice change.  I have found that your always in your Garrison either.  I usually spend first 20 min or so there, and then I am out in the world - and then I hearth back to Garrison to end there.  I am really enjoying the game again

I LOVE WoD. it's bringing back all the fun of Vanilla. teh garrisons are a mazing. you odn't have to spend hours on crafting, you just place work orders and your grunts do all the work for you, leaving you free to quest, lvl or raid. I spend my first half hour in my garrison, placing work orders and sending people out on missions. then I'm back to questing. FUN. you should definatly give it a try.

I have had a love/hate relationship with WoW for over 9 years now.  Have played the original and every expansion to some extent. WOD is interesting.  I don't like some of the oversimplification they have done with professions and gear.  I did like the leveling and questing process.  Garrisons, missions, and followers are nice for a casual like me.

I have not been a serious player in a guild doing raids and stuff for a few years now.  My time as a GM in 25 man TBC raiding got me my fill of that for now.  But as a real casual player I find the expansion enjoyable enough.  I have not logged into ESO for a few weeks now. I could not stomach questing one more veteran level.

I often find myself wishing WoW met all the criteria for a Gaiscioch guild chapter.  There are some raids, world bosses, and other guild activities in this game on the PVE side that would be more epic than anything GW2 or ESO had to offer.  Even WoW's smaller Battlegrounds are more fun in a group than some other games "massive PVP", since that PVP often results in being so laggy/buggy it cannot be enjoyed.

Although I certainly miss the quality of ESO's graphics!

I look forward to Gaiscioch finding a new seed game using the more cautious approach Fog has layed out.

The graphics engine is something of a double-edged sword. It's jarring after you've been playing ESO or GW2, but (at least for me) I find that I quickly readjust if I'm playing enough for the comparison to fade (and for nostalgia to set in). The silver lining is accessibility - the graphics in the newer zones have been improved, and the character models have received a face lift as well, but it's still playable with a minimum 2 GB of RAM, and is playable on both PC and Mac.

Right now,  I'm stuck with an elderly, low end laptop that manages to run WoW and GW2 adequately, but can't manage Wildstar or ESO. Many of my friends are in the same boat, so it's the one game that we all stay subbed to because it stays consistently below the cutting-edge graphics standard in order to attract a wider customer base. When I'm sufficiently engaged in the content, as I am with the new expansion, the meta-critic in me fades and immersion takes over.

Having a great time since i been back to WOW...  The expansion added the Garr but you can or not spend alot of time in it.  There is much to do and explore.  The Garr for me is for those times where you just dont feel like raiding... you can spend hours in your Garr tending to all your different skill buildings.   Valgio on Sinjin if anyones looking to jump back in with family.

I'm enjoying my time in Warlords. I haven't played since the beginning of Wrath so I'm having fun exploring the Cata and Panda content. The only time I spend in my garrison is to do my daily gathering stuffs and set some work orders,  so maybe a total of 15mins a day.

I'd love to find some people to run with. I find the WoD content a little intimidating and most RDF groups don't take the time to explain things (first time in Skyshard was painful). My main is Rja - Quel'dorei (Horde) and the husband stole my alliance paladin, Ckemikal - Quel'dorei.  I also have 2 bg toon that I am frequently on Poppette (Alliance) and Poppetta (Horde) both Quel'dorei. They are both around 40 right now.

I like Warlords, but I am getting where I don't want to play much,  I miss being around my family in Gaiscioch, as I don't have anyone to play with in WoW, so I solo, and queue for a few dungeons now and then. I should find a guild to join, I am in a friends guild but she and I are the only ones there, and she doesn't like to group lol. I have totally forgotten how to play GW2. ugh!

If anyone has a guild in wow to join up, let me know!

So I decided to pass (for now) on Warlords or Draenor.   I'm going to wait a year or so until the price tag is slashed a few times.  I'm keeping pretty busy with other things at the moment.   Coughing up $60 right now doesnt seem right, especially since I won't have the time required to play it fully.

I'm hoping down the road in a year or so, the price tag will come down to where I can justify buying it.

I'm enjoying it at the moment. While some people feel locked to their Garrison, I refuse to do that. I try to spend about an hour a day there, but otherwise, I just do my thing. Since I am an altoholic, I'm bouncing between characters quite a bit. It works for me.

I lasted a good 2 months from launch till Christmas before I got bored of Warlords.  I liked it a lot but once I'd done a couple of raids, completed the quests and levelled a new character from 1-100 and geared him up I started to lose interest.  I don't find the dungeons or raids challenging or interesting any more, I love the classes in WoW but I found the dungeons and raids to be better in Rift (but I didn't like the classes in Rift :()

I'm back in limbo at the moment.  Playing Turn-Based Tactical games again when I catch a break with work and hoping that something interesting in the MMO market can hold my attention.   I think my MMO days are over though.

Elth, your statement "my MMO days are over" kind of struck a chord with me.

I remember back to a time when I looked forward to playing certain MMO's.  But lately, I've been in a funk.  Can't put my finger on it.  But sadly, maybe my MMO days are over too.  At least the best of my MMO days are behind me.

Can't even remember the last time I played a console game either.  I passed completely on PS4 and Xbox One.

Need something to awaken my gaming senses...

Over the last couple of months I've put more hours into Turn-Based Tactical games like XCOM, Divinity: OS and Wasteland 2 than I have in an MMO.  I think I'm just tired of the MMO structure and that never ending carrot on a stick.  The social aspect no longer appeals to me either, I'm a typer and most non-gsch guilds these days are all in vent, mumble, teamspeak or raidcall and I really just don't have the patience to fight for airtime to get a word in.  So it's back to single player RPGs for me for the meantime, I did enjoy the WoW expansion but once I got my second character to max level and did a couple of raids I knew I wasn't in it for the long haul.  I don't think I'll capture that same feeling I had with the first three years of WoW again.

Garrison, is really a bounce back and forth type thing, set things up and come back the next day/timer cycle. It's nice unlike Pandaria where it was every day, I can once you gather enough set it for like 3 days and then come back.

I have a fairly active small guild, when law school isn't eating my soul (which has cut into all MMO time). I'm currently on Windrunner and its a fairly friendly place. Currently playing Horde, because that used to be the only mage-elfs. I may poke at an Alliance PC if I can find a group to run around with Alliance wise (what else is spring break for?).

This expansion is a dream for certain types of altoholics. One garrison wasn't enough to occupy my attention, but 8 garrisons (6 alliance, 2 horde) is perfect for my particular brand of ADHD. No two toons are alike: each toon does different things (my glass cannon mage, for instance, has leveled from 90-100 solely by pet battles, my rogue by PvP battlegrounds, my warlock by questing). Each garrison has different buildings, and my toons have different (complementary) professions. If you're not averse to some repetitive garrison gathering (mining, herbing, fishing) crafting (precursors in particular) and follwer missions, you can make a ton of gold and gear up all your alts nicely, all without setting foot in a raid. Love this expansion.
