Ok, first is controls:

You will want to spend most of your time with interact/main/mouse look mode on... you can only interact with the world in this mode, but occasionally something is useful with this mode off.  You may toggle this mode with the TAB key.
To move, you may use the wasd or arrow keys.  To run, hold shift.  To interact, use the right mouse button and left click from the menu, or right click to set a default action which can then be activated repeatedly by left clicking when in the main mode.
To activate anything in game, interact with it.  This works with the inventory and crafting stations as well.
You will not often need to attack for now, those are all the combat buttons on your bar.  Note, 5 increases run speed, so it can be useful to get places.  Also, 7 returns you home, or to a random spawn point if you have no home set.  You may assign food to your bar, and other abilities as you gain them.
You may alter keybinds in the options menu (escape.)

So, what to do first?:

Well, now that you know how to move around, you probably want some basic tools.  You might want to decide what you want to work on first (skills menu is 'L'.)  Each new skill takes 30 in the previous one to unlock, and 60 to go above 30... so you want to master the chain to at least 60 skill.
Basic tools require sticks from any tree (forestry option,) wild plant fiber from grassy areas (nature lore option,) and flint stone from rocky areas (prospecting option.)  To craft, right click the stick in your inventory.

Tools:
Axe - logging.
Saw - carpentry, and cutting trees into useful parts.
Shovel - digging/terraforming.  Not useful for tunneling.
Pickaxe - tunneling and mining.
Hammer - some construction.
Blacksmith's hammer - blacksmithing (requires rock and comes later on, but figured I would mention it!)
Sickle - farming.
Fishing pole - fishing.
Torch - light.
Sling - ranged weapon rank 1.
knife - more crafting.
Stick and Crucible - forging/smelting.
Cooking pot - cooking.
Cup - drinking.

Notice that you can look at what each requires so long as you have 1 stick.

Stats?:
You can set your stats to increase, decrease, or locked (character screen 'P') so that you can develop the character you want.  Each does, of course, have benefits in the end.

After that?:

Start creating something!  Work on whatever your chosen area is... and enjoy!  You may want to start small, and pay attention to your skill gains, not every task gives equal skill ups.

As an aside, once Mentoring is implemented and the local school is built, you can attend a class to learn something about skills.  This is a future update, and once implemented in the current version I will update this to suggest attending a class from a nice tutor.

For those who may/will join in the unofficial Saighdear/Gaiscioch villa we will do have a school built.  Mentoring is still not in the game yet.

As a note with the new update, try to get some storage built fairly early on.  Chests are not too terrible once you get mining, and with the decay of dropped items now in game you will start losing anything just sitting around (dropped items.)

To build a chest requires a moderate level of Carpentry skill (30,) a saw, 6 hardwood boards, 40 nails (smelting of 4 ore into lumps and then smithing nails,) and 5 metal bands (smelting of 80 IRON ore into bars and then smithing metal bands.)  Note that any ore will do for the nails, but you need iron for the metal bands.

Building a crate is easier, only taking 4 Hardwood Billets and 10 nails.  This is probably the best option early on, as the materials are easier to obtain.  It gives a decent amount of storage too.  The other alternate early on is Barrels... which take a few softwood boards (5,) 20 nails, and 2 metal bands.  Overall the crate is the easiest to build, with the least time spent on smelting over and over.

Other storage options are available, but take more time and effort, and more skills, to build.

New tool:  My Life is Feudal MSWorks herb sheet.  I was less than satisfied with other options, and thus created this as a means of tracking what each herb does on a given character.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7a3Z5w8c3NJbzQ0RFp3a1REZjA/view?usp=sharing

How to use:
The database is built with all current herb names in alphabetical order.  All columns are built to use true/false logic, such that 0 = false and any other number (1,2,3,etc.) = true.  You can easily use the save as function to designate a file for any new character.
When you discover a property of an herb, simply input a whole number to designate the herb as having that property.  This allows a quick reference guide for creating different effects later on.
When you are hunting properties for herbs later on, simply use the false logic to show combinations that do not work.  So, if you need a positive trait, and you use herbs with +Str,Agi,Con, and Wis to test if that is the trait you need, and none of them are...  simply mark those columns as false.  This way you can leave and come back, and easily remember what didn't work.
Finally, there is a column for when all three traits of an herb are known.  So far all herbs are 2 positive traits, with 1 negative trait.  Simply mark this column true when all are known, and you know which herbs you know all the traits for.  You may also use false if you feel like it to show those without all traits known.

He's an example from my character on the KGB server, in case anybody wants to see what it looks like when you are getting close to knowing all combinations.
