Get your FRACTALS on!!!!

I am sure many of you have experienced the awesome new Fractals of the Mists dungeons added with the recent patch, but for those who have not, have a read of the link below to educate yourself about the awesome new PVE addition to the game.

I personally will be running these like crazy, as they are so much fun. You progress through fractal levels, with greater rewards with each difficulty setting.  There are new fractal vendors as well, new crafting items, and of course, the chance to get the new Ascended gear, which is situated between exotic and legendary stats wise.

We are currently working to get these instances up on the website for participation claiming, once we have decided on points allocation, so please be patient while we work through this process.

Entry is via the portal in Lion's Arch, your group will need to be in the same overflow/zone. Remember that the level difficulty is dictated to by the least progressed player in the group, so set realistic expectations when advertising for players to join you :)

The pve challenge has arrived!  Get fracting!

Fractals of the Mists has now been added as a dungeon if you wish to claim participation. For now we have added just one generic to see how far people progress. Changes may be made if the needs of the guild arise, but for now, there is just one event loaded to claim, regardless of fractal level.

Yay! Just to be clear, there was some question regarding what constituted a "run" for Fractals of the Mists. Where did this finally wind up?

Here is how it is set up. There is selection for each of three parts completed There is a selection of getting all three completed - ie a fractal level There is the selection for just doing it. So let's say your crew only manages to get two done: Select completing 1 and 2 and select doing the event. Just like anything else you can't claim it if you didn't successfully complete it, but you can claim parts tht you did. Now the thing that messes up Fractals the fastest is someone disconnecting because they can NOT get back to you once the log on like with other dungeons. This has been tested a few times, including with a group I was with on Sunday when one of our members disconnected twice. Not sure if this is a bug or the way they wanted it, but it makes you have to leave and start over to get that member back with you.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Thank you for clarifying. If I understand correctly, and to state it explicitly for others reading this, setting up the event works thusly: Team gets together and starts the first Fractal -->Fractals of the Mists (door icon) +20 FHP Complete the first Fractal -->Stage 1 completion reward (chest icon) +10 FHP Complete the second Fractal -->Stage 2 completion reward (chest icon) +10 FHP Complete the third Fractal and get transported back to the Lab -->Stage 3 completion (chest icon) +10 FHP -->Dungeon completion reward (chest icon) +10 FHP If someone crashes, disconnects, etc., that is the end of their participation, because it is not possible for them to rejoin the team. They will claim up to the last completed Fractal. The rest of the team may elect to teleport back to the lab to get that person back (which ends the event, and you start a new one when you re-enter), or push on without that person (which continues the event normally).

I recommend trying them, especially if you like challenging pve. Also, the loot drops add up very quickly, and you may get rares and exotics from the chests as you progress.

Regarding a "guaranteed ring drop," I don't think there are any guaranteed drops from any levels. What I believe Susulemon is talking about is the daily bonus chest, which has a *chance* to have a ring in it. For people who don't know, the first even level you do per day - per tier - gives you a bonus chest. Tier 1 is levels 1 to 9, tier 2 is 10 through 19, tier 3 is 20 through 29 and so forth. So if you did level 8, then 9, then 10 in one day (long day!), you'd get 2 bonus chests: one from completing level 8 in the first tier, and one from completing level 10 in the second tier. If you did level 6 and got a chest, and then later on that day did level 8, you would not get a bonus on 8, because you already got your Tier 1 bonus chest for that day. Just as with the daily quests, this "daily bonus chest" resets at midnight GMT, which I believe is 5 PM server time. The second tier chests have a chance to drop an Ascended ring - it's only a chance, no guarantees. I ran level 10 last night and one of my party mates got a ring. I, however, did not. And I was with a guy who'd gotten a number of rings from bonus chest drops. The third tier bonus chests (levels 20 to 29) have a chance to contain an Ascended ring that has built-in Agony resist on it (so it's an upgrade to the rings that drop from the 10-19 bonus chests). I have no idea what's beyond that. The 1-9 tier bonus chests won't contain a ring. But they do have extra crystals in them, so they're still worth going for. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Additionally.... :D William Fairfield, one of the ANet game designers, posted in this thread: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/dungeons/Will-FotM-difficulties-reset-When/first#post867722 Translating what he said: the bonus chest you get for doing an even level is the same for each tier regardless as to the level. What that means is that the bonus chest you would get for doing level 10 is the same as if you did level 12, 14, 16, or 18 (the takeaway here is that you don't have to do higher even-numbered levels to get a better bonus chest).

At first I was confused, deleted that and I read the original thread and think I understand it now. There are Daily tiers, so if you're level 31 you have access to 4 daily bonus chests. So you can just do a level 2, a level 10, a level 20 and a level 30 for each Daily tier to make it easier to complete them. I'd love to have been in that design meeting: Project Manager: Ok, so we're getting a lot of complaints that the dungeons are too easy and hardcore players are getting bored. Dev Bob: Well, I don't think its a good idea to redesign our current dungeon system, we did promise they would be friendly to casual players. Dev Joe: Why don't we design a incremental dungeon advancement system so complicated, that they'll be trying to figure it out for the next year(s). Project Manager: Winner winner chicken dinner!

I've even run off after killing a dragon and have had to turn around to get my chest. ::chuckles:: Yes, I think I missed one or two in dungeons, too. My game timing still has me at trying to get out of L2. ::chuckles:: I see a lot of levels in the teens trying to group now when I do wind up in Lion's Arch. Though if it takes me years, so be it. I rather jump in with family if they are asking when I can put attention into a dungeon for awhile.

Are people back-tracking and helping folks in lower levels, much? Last night I noticed that there's another 0/7 Fractals requirement for the December monthly, but I'm at level 3 and I rarely see any LFMs for less than 10 anymore. I don't like this "fractal level system" for that very reason. I see a lot of others (general population) beginning to complain about it, too. I think ArenaNet made a big design mistake, that will wash out in the coming month(s). edit: I should have clarified that "I rarely see any LFMs for less than 10 anymore" in /map chat. I haven't really seen a lot of Fractal LFMs in guild chat.

Anyone interested in Fractals can add me to Friends, and toss me a /whisper anytime. I do prefer Family-only runs (not a big fan of pugs in fractals), but I'll help out either way.

Yeah i wish they can change the fractals up a bit more, you don't get any experience doing it, so you can't level alt with it, which was usually a good way for people to want to back track to certain dungeons, for instance leveling up doing AC runs I was on my lv7 mesmer today and went to try frac 1, after I beat it I was still level 7, and all the drops were level 7 blues, too much work for 15 tokens no karma either :(

The purpose of fractals is not levelling alts or gaining xp! They are to provide players who like challenging pve with something different in the game. GW2 provides choices for players so if you want to level an alt I would suggest doing WvW or zone completions, or crafting, as that is where you get xp. Fractals on the other hand are to test your team's skill against the various levels, acquire higher level gear from 10+, (for example rings), and you can also use tokens to buy stuff from the vendor, like 20 slot bags. I personally love them because they get harder and harder each time. They also have more interesting pve game mechanics and you have to complete more tasks. The most effective way to get the most from Fractals is to establish guild groups and pratcice the higher levels together. Eventually you get better at the encounters and receive better rewards. You also make some gold along the way vendoring loot drops, which add up. Remember that these are optional! I am only up to level 10 because our group only runs once a week, but so far still loving the challenge! Once I finish work for the holidays I will try to run some lower level ones for people who have been unable to get groups, but they will be at Oceanic times.

I wish we had our own fractal level roster for the guild somehow, for instance just the option to put a tiny tag near our names on the guild roster so ppl know what progress you are at and easier to team up I am at frac 13 now and throughout the whole progress I have never successfully gotten a guild group to run with for progression, ppl either aren't there yet, hate me, or have their own static groups, so its been a small let down that I always have to pug everything i thought Anet said we are able to see other player's personal stories or what not, I haven't tried or know how to do that yet, but why not let us check their dungeon completion status and fractal level too :s

Try starting a regular group, get everyone to where you are at, and then progress. That is what we did and it works really well. Not everyone is on at the same times, and not everyone likes fractals. Spend some time putting together a group of guildies and see how you go :)
