Hi, I was just wondering if I could get macros in Gw2 and if you can I have a sugestion. Say you are on a character that can only have one set of wepons, What you could do is macro you wepons to a button to switch them I was just wondering if any of you guys would think this would work and if not why. Any ways I am not really sure about this it is just something I thought you might be able to do If not its fine lol :D any way thanks for reading :D

There's no built in ability to write/store/run macros in GW2.

I guess a programmable mouse or keyboard could do it, but the only discussion I've heard about macros in GW2 so far is:

a) too hard to useful in a world where moving/dodging is an integral part of combat
b) maybe siege engines?

Most likely B would be logical. With my logitech keyboard, and the ability to record keypress+set delay before release, I could use it once I've zeroed in on a target wall with a Trebuchet. Other than that, I don't see much use for them.

As for the OP's idea.. I don't think it would work, mainly because there is no in-game support.

I'm content with no macros. I could see setting up an afk macro thingy for WvW with the Nostromo, but in actual play the keys change with context. And there's only the 10 keys plus a couple F#.

Equipment sets would be a useful utility (like saveequip loadequip in Rift)

I love macros! But not for gameplay...They make being an officer and roleplay much easier and I can see it working well for large scale events a certain leader of ours spams useful things in often...Guess we will all have to learn how to type again >.<

Small macros might be useful. I found it useful to bind poison-steal-autoattack all to one particular button because some abilities I want to always use when they're available for my particular build.

I don't see the need for big elaborate macros though, so much of the game is maneuvar it's great.

Q is for me.

I'm a 65 wpm typist, which is usually faster than I can think of what to say.

But definitely chat macros would be very useful, I hadn't thought of that.

Where would you map 'em? Need another toolbar.

IMO:
The ability to switch from dual wield to staff.
The ability to change from dps gear to healing gear .
The ability to change heal and utility skills.

These three things would be nice to macro to 3 different buttons.

I think out of combat swaps should be ok. Hopefully some kind of save load out command will be instituted.

I don't think we completely know Anet's policy on external macros yet. Some companies ban people for using programmable keyboards etc. I would be careful until you know for sure.
