I'm writing this guide to help folks that are playing Guild Wars mainly to earn free items in Guild Wars 2 and are probably playing Guild Wars for the first time.
As a mini intro, as you achieve certain things (get particular armor, titles, minipets, etc), you will earn points that will in turn earn Guild Wars 2 minipets, gear, and titles. Check out hom.guildwars2.com to see the actual Hall of Monuments.
This guide will help newcomers "quickly" earn at least 15 points. Keep in mind, each successive point becomes more difficult to earn so earning points after #15 will be much harder, but this guide should at least get you started.
First to unlock your hall of monuments (HoM), you have to obtain and display a Monumental Tapestry, either by earning one through finishing mainline in Eye of the North (EotN) or by purchasing them. I highly suggest just earning them through quests.
The order you should display your tapestries is this (at least what I recommend):
Devotion (minipets)
Fellowship (ranger pets/heros)
Honor (titles)
Resilience (Prestige armor sets)
Valor (Weapons)
The order you should pursue points is as follows:
Points:
1-3: Buy Guild Wars and at least the EotN expansion; I suggest just getting the whole set. (If you're planning on getting all the expansions, buy the full set at Walmart. Apparently you can get everything for around 40 bucks.)
4: Once you have about 500g to 1 platinum (1000g) you can afford a very cheap mini pet and display it. Be sure to only buy a white (common) mini pet at this stage. Gold mini’s cost 35k to 60k and Green mini’s are 75k and up and up.
5: Once you’ve unlocked MOX as a hero, display him. He’s the only hero that doesn’t require hero armor and can be displayed immediately.
6-7: Finish a single storyline and display your statue.
8-10: Finish each storyline (Prophecies, Nightfall, EotN, Factions) and then go back and finish each mission and achieve the maximum completion. Most of these can be done solo, but don’t be afraid to ask for help on others. This will earn you 6 title statues (the point only requires you earn 5 statues) and 3 points. Note this will take a fair amount of work, but actually isn’t that hard compared to other point requirements.
11-12: Go back through the Factions expansion and tame the Black Moa. This is considered an unique pet and if you display it, it’ll give you credit for displaying any pet AND for displaying an unique pet. Make sure to use guild wars wiki if you’re having a hard time finding this creature.
13-14: Buy the unique drops that upgrade hero armor. I personally bought Cloth of the Brotherhood in the Central Transfer Area at the end of the EotN campaign. They typically cost about 8k to 9k a piece. Buy 3 of these for 3 of your heros and equip them. Then display those 3 heros in your HoM. (Cost of these are currently about 4k, but may go down or up. 06/20/2012)
15: Your choice. You can either try for an easier set of armor, check with me, but typically each class has 2 (or more) fairly easy prestige armors that they can get. For instance, warriors can get Ancient or Sunspear armor (costs 50+ or 75+ plat respectively to make). The other choice is to buy a gold unique minipet for 35k to 50k and display it; make sure to shop around. Prince Rurik and the mini pig tend to be the cheapest, but prices vary widely. I bought my Rurik for 32k while it’s usually sold for 45k or 50k. Make sure to haggle.
Hope that gets you folks started and enjoy Guild Wars storylines. They’re pretty enjoyable and that’s coming from a guy that doesn’t really like PvE.
