This guide will walk you through the process of entering a new, never before seen recipe into the Gaiscioch Marketplace for Guild Wars 2. It does not cover any other game that the Gaiscioch Marketplace supports, nor how to increase your Artisan Rank within Gaiscioch. You can learn more about increasing your Artisan Rank in Lakshmi's Guide to Using the GW2 Marketplace.
Adding a recipe to the Marketplace is intended for those members who are very detailed oriented with strong proofing skills and the patience to triple check your own work. Spelling, capitalization, punctuation, spacing, and correct item details are needed in order for the Marketplace to continue to provide a unique and valuable service to all members of Gaiscioch. Be sure before you begin that you have a thorough knowledge of the entry process. Do not hesitate to ask questions or get help! Elders and fellow veteran Artisans will lend a hand in any way that they can.
There is a lot of information in this document. I have done my best to be complete and accurate and all mistakes are my own. Any errors or improvements that you feel would be helpful please point them out to me in your reply and I will do my best to get this updated as quickly as possible. Thank you!

Part 1: Finding That Button!
Entering a recipe is done from the Marketplace. Once you reach Artisan Rank 3, and you have allowed 24 hours for the website to update, navigate to the Marketplace for Guild Wars 2. This can be done in 3 easy steps (look for the white arrows to guide you).
Step 1. Select the Marketplace button from the top website choices.
Step 2. Select Guild Wars 2 as the game. This will bring you to the Marketplace for Guild Wars 2.
Step 3. Now for the best part - the Add New Recipe button is in your Current Artisan Progress: Unlocks area, all the way on the far right-hand side (you need to be logged into the site for this to show correctly). Click it. This will open The Gaiscioch Marketplace: Item Management form. Hurray!
Part 2: What Am I?
The decision of whether the item you are entering is a Final Product or a Composite Material impacts how you complete the Item Management form. It is very important to understand the difference between the two, and to follow the correct instructions for each one.
Final Product - If the item can be equipped or consumed by a player, it is a Final Product. The bulk of the recipes that will be entered by the Family Artisans will be Final Products.
Note: Cooking and Jeweler can be tricky here because they make items that are a Final Product but also a Composite Material that can be used at higher skill levels in the creation of a new item. These are entered as a Final Product because it can be used by a player in it's current form. Additional information is captured in the details about that item letting everyone know that it also has a crafting use later on. How to make the proper notes is explained fully in Part 3: Final Product Step-by-Step.
Note: Runes and sigils can often be created at multiple skill levels within in the SAME craft with varying recipes to do so. The resulting Final Product is identical each time but the recipe used and the crafting skill level are the only things that vary. These recipes are only entered into the Marketplace once per craft, using the lowest skill level recipe to do so. If the Final Product you are considering entereing into the Marketplace is already represented for your specific craft then you do not enter it in again - even if the recipe you have is completely different from the one already in the Marketplace. If you have a recipe that requires a lower skill level to make the Final Product for a specific craft than what is shown in the Marketplace, write an in-game or site message to Lakshmi explaining the issue with full details.
Note: Some crafted goods are only usable by the crafter that makes them. If the item made says "Soulbound on Acquire", it is only usable by the crafter that makes it. These items do NOT get entered into the Marketplace.
Composite Materials - If the item cannot be equipped or consumed by a player and it is the result of a recipe executed at a crafting station, it is a Composite Material. Many of the Composite Materials for Guild Wars 2 were entered before release but as changes and expansions occur there may be times that new Composite Materials are discovered and need to be entered.
Now that you have made the decision of what you want to enter, jump to either Part 3: Final Product Step-by-Step or Part 4: Composite Materials Step-by-Step.
Part 3: Final Product Step-by-Step
Now we are to the real heart of things and it can be overwhelming the first time through. You will find plenty of dire warnings telling you to not proceed past this point without the right knowledge on the Item Management form - these were placed there by Fog. Heed them! It takes everyone's help to populate and keep the Marketplace running smoothly. If it is not done correctly Fog's last few hairs will turn grey. No one wants to be the cause of that.
The Item Management form is divided into 3 general areas, Product Creation, Recipe, and Product.
Product Creation
There are 2 fields to complete.
Classification - Select Final Product from the dropdown box.
Crafting Discipline - Select the craft you used to create the product.
Recipe
This area is for capturing the actual recipe used to produce the product. The number of ingredients used will vary from recipe to recipe, with Cooking generally being the most unusual from one product to the next. By selecting the recipe from your recipe book in-game, the right-hand side of the recipe window will be populated and show you the information you need to fill this portion out correctly.
Quantity - Enter the amount of an ingredient used in the recipe as it appears in your recipe book in-game. A very common mistake is to just enter 1 down the line without double checking, so be sure it is actually only 1.
Ingredient - Select the ingredient from the dropdown box as it appears in your recipe book in-game. You can type the first letter, or more, of the ingredient name and the dropdown box will navigate to it for you. If you are unable to find an ingredient used in a recipe, see Part 5: Missing Ingredient, Now What? for more information.
Note: Typing the name of the ingredient works great with Chrome but other browsers may not support this as smoothly. If you are struggling with this you may want to consider using Chrome for recipe entry.
Product
This is the largest section of the Item Management form. It also contains the most rules (with exceptions) and plenty of "if this, then that" logic. Throughout this section you will be relying on product details exactly as they appears in-game, so let's go over how to find this key information.
Result: image pop-up box
Select the recipe from your recipe book in-game. This will fill the right-hand side of your crafting window with an image of the product, a name, and recipe instructions. To see the details about that product, hover your cursor over the Result: image that is shown. A pop-up box will appear that contains all of the good stuff about that crafted item.
Item Name - Enter the name of the item that goes into your bag once it is created. It is critical that this name exactly matches how it appears in Guild Wars 2. Spelling (even if ArenaNet mispelled something, match what was done in-game), capitalization, punctuation and wording must be identical. This name quite often does NOT match the name of the recipe you used to create the item, so be sure this is done very carefully. Use the name of the item as it appears in the Result: image pop-up box.
There are three exceptions to this rule.
- Recipes that create multiple items will result in a hover over name that does not reflect the name of the item as it appears in your bag. In these cases you will need to look in your bag and hover over the crafted product there to see the correct information to use for Item Name. Cooking is usually the craft to watch out for this issue.
- Some Runes in the game have the exact same name, regardless of which craft made it. The name you enter for all Runes will be the name of the product as it appears in the Result: image pop-up box along with a notation of the craft that made the item. This notation needs to be entered in this exact way: Product Name (Crafting Discipline). For example the Tailor made Rune of Life would be entered as Rune of Life (Tailor). Runes are created by Tailor, Leatherworking and Armorsmith and should be noted that way.
- Some Sigils in the game have the exact same name, regardless of which carft made it. The name you enter for all Sigils will be the name of the product as it appears in the Result: image pop-up box along with a notation of the craft that made the item. This notation needs to be entered in this exact way: Product Name (Crafting Discipline). For example the Artificer made Superior Sigil of Impact would be entered as Superior Sigil of Impact (Artificer). Sigils are created by Artificer, Huntsman and Weaponsmith and should be noted that way.
- Recipes that create multiple items will result in a hover over name that does not reflect the name of the item as it appears in your bag. In these cases you will need to look in your bag and hover over the crafted product there to see the correct information to use for Item Name. Cooking is usually the craft to watch out for this issue.
Quantity Produced - If a recipe produces more than one of an item, it will have a small number in the upper right-hand corner of the Result: image. If it does not have a number in the right-hand corner of the Result: image, enter 1, otherwise enter the number shown in the image.
Color - Select the correct color of the product from the dropdown box based on the color of the Item Name in-game.
Slot - The correct Slot dropdown box choice varies by the final product that is made.
Weapons
Weapon Made | Correct Slot Choice |
---|---|
Focus, Warhorn, Torch, Shield | Off Hand |
Scepter | Main Hand |
Staff, Longbow, Shortbow, Greatsword, Rifle, Hammer | Two Handed |
Trident, Spear, Harpoon Gun | Aquatic |
All others | One Hand |
Armor and Town Clothing
The matching body location the product is worn on as it appears in the Slot dropdown box under Armor or Town Clothing. The exception to this is for hands, they are put in as Arms.
Accessories
The matching body location for the product as it appears in the Slot dropdown box under Accessory.
Bags
The Bag choice in the dropdown box under Other.
Food, Potions, Runes, Sigils, Maintenance Oils, Jewels, Dyes, Sharpening Stones
These are all the Consumable/Ugrade Component choice under Other.
Siege Weapons
The Siege Weapon choice under Other.
Type - The correct Type dropdown box choice varies by the final product that is made.
Weapons
The matching weapon made as it appears in the Type dropdown box under Weapon.
Armor and Accessories
The grade of armor made as it appears in the Type dropdown box under Armor. Select Accessory when it applies.
Food
The category of food made as it appears in the Type dropdown box under Cooking.
Bags, Runes, Sigils, Jewels, Dyes, Siege Weapons
The matching product made as it appears in the Type dropdown box under Other.
Potions, Maintenance Oils, Sharpening Stones, Town Clothing
Select Other from the Type dropdown box under Raw & Refined Materials.
Item Notes - Enter in the details about the product exactly as it appears for you in-game in the Result: image pop-up box, following the same spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and spacing used by ArenaNet. Stats, effects, boons, and duration are all examples of the kind of details that need to be captured in Item Notes. Do not enter in the Level Required in Item Notes, that is recorded in it's own field. If you are unsure about how to do this, search the GW2 Marketplace for a similar item and look it over closely. You should be able to use that as a guideline for yourself. Any item in the Marketplace has been thoroughly reviewed before being approved and should match the expectations shown here.
Below are common notation mistakes that are made and should be carefully proofed for.
-
- Armor and weapons most often have the ability to be upgraded with runes or sigils. This should be clearly indicated with the words Unused Upgrade Slot, just as it shows in-game.
- Most equippable Masterwork and higher grade items are soulbound once you put them on. This should be clearly indicated with the words Soulbound on Use, just as it shows in-game.
- When dealing with a Consumable/Upgrade Component, do NOT include instructions that tell a player how to actually eat/use the final product. Phrasing like Double-click to consume is an example of what should not be included.
- Cooking and Jeweler items that are both a Final Product and Composite Material need to have this clearly indicated. The Item Notes need to show that it is also a crafting material, usable by a crafting profession, and the skill level required to use it. This is done using the following format: the words Crafting Material followed by a colon, the crafting name and (skill level) shown in parenthesis, just as it shows in-game. If multiple crafts can use the item, comma separate them. For example:
Crafting Material: Chef (100), Artificer (50), Jeweler (25)
- Armor and weapons most often have the ability to be upgraded with runes or sigils. This should be clearly indicated with the words Unused Upgrade Slot, just as it shows in-game.
Allows Augment - This checkbox is never used for Guild Wars 2. Leave it unchecked. If a product can hold an upgrade, see the instructions for Item Notes above on how that is done.
Required Level - Enter in the player level required to be able to equip/consume the product. If there is no level shown, enter 0. A common error is to enter in 1 when no level is shown, be sure you enter 0.
Required Skill - Enter in the crafting skill level required to make the product. To find this information, hover over the recipe in your recipe book in-game and it will be listed in the pop-up box that appears as Required Rating: XX. If no Required Rating exists, enter 0. A common error is to enter in 1 when no rating is shown, be sure you enter 0.
Usable On - This is only filled in for 3 products: Jewel, Rune and Sigil. For Jewel, enter the word Accessory; for Rune enter the word Armor; for Sigil enter the word Weapon.
Add Recipe - You did it!! You made it through the entire form, entered in your information and you are now ready to hit the button. Before you do, re-read everything one last time and make sure every i is dotted, every t is crossed, and every detail is exactly as it should be. If you are sure it is all great, DO IT! ADD RECIPE!
Part 4: Composite Materials Step-by-Step
Coming soon.
Part 5: Missing Ingredient, Now What?
If you find that the ingredient you need to complete the Recipe section of the Item Management form is not there, do not enter the recipe yet. Instead, contact the Gaiscioch Crafting Elder, Lakshmi, in writing. You can send her a message in-game or on the website. Your message needs to contain the following information:
- What is the exact name of the ingredient as it appears in-game, using the same spelling, punctuation and capitalization?
- What is the color of the item's name (for example, blue, green, gold, etc.)?
- What is the tooltip for the item, exactly as it appears in-game, using the same spelling, punctuation and capitalizaion?
- Did you find the item via a drop or as a vendor purchase?
- If it was a drop, how much does a single item sell for to a Vendor?
Once you message all of that information off, Lakshmi will take care of the steps needed to update the database and notify you when you can enter in your new recipe.
