I took advantage of the $15 deal on the base game. I now have it downloaded, but I am not sure when I will have time to play. In any case, I really have little idea of what is going on, and was hopeful that someone might point me too helpful resources.

I do have a level 8 Dark Elf Templar with a dragon icon next to it. Does it sound like that will be in the right place to join the rest of GSCH in ESO?

Are there any helpful Crown purchases that might make my leveling more efficient?

What level do I need to be to be able to participate with the rest of the guild?

Any tips on Templar? I tanked only a little bit in WoW, but I did heal. Neither tends to make leveling easy. Are there any traps to avoid with the Templar?

I am familiar with Curse, but not the ESO addons. Are there any must haves?

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I hope to catch up to all of you soon.

The dragon head is the icon for Ebonheart Pact, which is our faction.

You can spend crowns on a variety of stuff, however none of it is really necessary to play.  Of interest items would be:
-Imperial City DLC
-Wrothgar/Orsinium DLC
-EXP scrolls  (double xp for a while.  You can also craft xp pots at 1/4 the duration.  Not super important, and certainly not something to spend money on unless you really want.)
--The other items in the crown store include mounts and pets, plus inventory expansions which can be bought for in game gold (save the crowns, use the gold... personal opinion.)

You can participate in some activities at level 1.  A quick breakdown of activities and levels:
-Silver key/normal mode dungeons:  1-any.
-Gold key/Veteran mode dungeons:  VR levels only.
-Cyrodil/AVA:  Level 10+  (Includes Imperial City (IC) content, should you have the IC DLC.)
-World events:  For Ebonheart Pact (EP) zones any level, for 'silver' zones VR1+ with access, for gold zones VR1+ with access, for Orsinium/Wrothgar events have the DLC.
-Community gatherings/RP events/associated stuff:  Any level able to access the location (usually 1+, as any held are either in EP zones or via Gamevox for meetings.)
-Trials:  VR12+, lower VR members with exceptional stats may be permitted by event leaders (18k+ HP with food is a pretty solid rule.  Generally if this isn't fairly easy your dps/healing won't be enough.  For tanks, ~30k both HP and Stamina is required at a minimum.)

For leveling, go DPS.  Respecs are fairly cheap if you really need, and you get a fairly large number of skill points overall.  There are a number of Templar builds, but a common theme seems to be 'Run magicka with spear thrust skill for leveling.'  Templars make exceptional healers due to having the only class healing skill line.  They can dps or tank if desired, and can do either acceptably, but healing is really where they shine.

Traps to avoid include not having enough skill points to work with the important stuff early on.  As a general rule, deconstruct and research everything you can for crafting.  Do not bother spending skill points in more than 1 or 2 crafting trees while leveling.  (Generally, it is a tight fit to get all the crafts maxed without running out of skill points.  Having a crafting alt later on for some of your crafts is perfectly acceptable.  You can hit max rank without spending skill points in:  Blacksmith, Clothier, Enchanting, and Woodworking.)

You should probably work on leveling up all the armor trees, and each class skill line.  If you like a particular weapon, use it while leveling.  For healing, resto staff is a must.  For tanking, one hand and shield is a must.  For dps, having ranged options as a melee is a very good idea.

If you have a horse, the feeding system now works on a per character basis, rather than a per horse basis.  So feeding once at the stables each day is a solid investment.

We tend to use Minion for ESO addons.  There are a variety to select from, and they depend on your preferences and what activities you wish to do.  I don't use many (skyshards having found them all once, plus situational addons for me.)  Other people use many more.

There is a ton more advice you can get, and I suggest visiting us in GameVox if you can!  We have a regular crew that is very helpful.

--Hope that helps, I'm going to pumpkin into the hay now!

Advanced UI (AUI) is a pretty good addon that includes many things other addons provide.  If you jump on vox there are lots of helpful folks willing to assist; from hand-holding, to running with you, to just providing advise and tips...welcome to a Great Community.

Always ask.  Depending on the time of day or if something major is going on it may take a bit for an answer, but most times not.  =)  Getting on Gamevox helps a lot with communicating and definitely faster than typing.

Your character is definitely in the right place for us to start dragging you along on some fun.  Keep your eye on the calendar for planned events and your eyes open on guild chat for impromptu groupings as well as ears open on Gamevox.

I have a templar that I do DPS and healing on, but for end game I definitely went with healing.  My play style wasn't making her have the DPS for end game, but she can blast through any solo content.  Definitely working on leveling all three skill lines for the class and go with what Jairone said for weapons for specific roles.  You can start having weapon swapping at L15.  My char is a Nord so I went 2 handed on her since Nords have that as a specialty and then restoration staff for the full healing.  It helps to wear at least one piece of each type of armor so you can level them, but for the first bit of leveling put your skill points in the primary one you are using.  I actually leveled in heavy, but my end game armor is going to wind up being mostly light whenever I figure out my VR16 gear......some day.  =)

People will help keep you geared up though in the first 20 levels, unless you stay in noob stuff, the looted things can keep you alive just as good.  I usually start playing with set gear in my 20's once I have the character figured out better for weapons and armor choices, magicka/stamina, etc.

I see that you are a GW2 player so know our site.  Though if you do get confused by ESO event claiming, just ask.  It's way simple since it is all time based now.  =)

Addons - we use Minion by ZAM Network, which is much like Curse

What I use

- after my first toon did most of the zones, I bothered with skyshards and lorebooks to see what I missed.  I actually did not do bad since I explore everything!  I have two add ons for my provisioning.  I have an addon that helps with not breaking emotes when I roleplay.  I use one with most things off other than a DPS and HPS meter.  Others use way more of it than I do.  I also use Destinations that shows where things are on the map before you explored, but that is because I've been there before and it helps if I run with a char that hasn't while leading one of my map clearing events.  I slowly worked into the ones I use over time and figured out what I liked or did not like.

Yeah, this webiste and the game might seem overwelming at first, but definitely join in the mayhem and ask questions! =)

Addons are a personal choice and as such there will be many different perspectives.  What works best for you is the best App. Additionally, as you progress and your proficiencies increase you may desire a specialized app, albeit a timer, crafting aide or what-have-you.

For me, gotta have apps as a foundation to build on:

  • Master Merchant
  • Awesome Guildstore
  • LUI Extended
  • Skyshards
  • Lorebooks
  • Wykkyd Gaming Suite
  • Shissu's PVP/Game Booster

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the help so far. I did pop into GV last night, but did not want to interrupt the conversation there. Unfortunately my schedule is generally very early, at least during the week. This makes some communication via the website more convenient. I will try again to get into GV, probably more tomorrow, as I have the day off.

My biggest challange is movement and controls, I am fighting my GW2 muscle memory. Holding both mouse buttons is very different in each game.

After somewhat of a false start on quests, I moved back to Daggerfall (I think). Although the quests are all yellow, the mobs in the area I was in were not taking much damage, and the quest rewards were 2-4 levels to high for me to use.

I love the add ons, I am nerdy that way. They don't really even have to be all that helpful.

Hopefully healing is somewhat in demand. It seems that ESO somewhat requires an relatively early decision on character progression. I don't want to get halfway through leveling to find out that I made a bad choice. I don't mind giving tanking a try, and have been looking at Nords, but one project at a time is enough, especially with a stable of GW2 toons ready to go.

Oh, and if there are any other newbies out there, I would be happy to group with you!

interrupt away, the main ESO room is sometimes used by folks running dungeons or other events but the understanding is; if you run an event in the main channel anyone can chime in at anytime.

Cyvil, if you are level 8 and questing in Daggerfall, you are the wrong faction.  Just FYI.  The faction icons can be a bit confusing, so if it isn't just the head of a dragon... well, you won't be on the right faction for events!

I do have the dragon emblem, and had no trouble joining up with a GSCH group in cyrodil. My first map was Stonefalls, and Davonfall. I think everything is ok.

There are a lot of Great Addons,  some that I didn`t see listed are.

Shissu`s Guild tools.  Shows who is in your guilds when they type in zone chat, when you mouse over their character while running around in game.  shows character and alt name they are on + level of guildies in chat and guild rosster, also fast mini port by clicking on fast travel instead of opening guild page and  traveling .

Advanced Ui   great mini map , and Attributes bars, buff tracker.

Lost Treasure  helps with Survey writs and treasure maps.

Foundry Tactical Combat   excellent  scrolling combat text, target bar info, and Raid/group unit setup

Harvester  A must for any crafter, it shows the location of any node you harvester on any map , wood, cloth, enchanting, Ore , fish etc and speeds up farming as nodes spawn same location.

If going with a 2H  take Stampede as charge as it snares the Target and helps you land  puncturing Sweep/  Biting Jabs

For interrupts - you can keybind it to the middle mouse button and still leave the default

(Every action can have two keybinds at the same time as long as they don't conflict with other abilities)

And oooo, so much easier, than holding both mouse buttons.  I realized how much I enjoyed having it set up this way when I was trying to level my cook some just so she can do writs in Belkarth.  She only had the default and it was annoying.

BTW, glad you have hopped in GameVox more with us and have enjoyed some of the crazy runs we got you on.  Hope you are enjoying the horse!  Don't hesitate to ask questions even if we are being gabby.  I know I'm definitely pretty verbose at times.  HA HA!
